Once A 'Rocket Ship,' National Security Council Now Avoided By Government Pros

....

Career foreign policy professionals increasingly fear that joining the NSC, which is part of the White House, will taint them as political operatives.

"There is a school of thought that it can be risky for your career — sometimes being there puts you in a position where you have to say no to ambassadors and other senior officials, and they may remember that when you return," said one senior foreign policy official who turned down an offer to serve at the NSC.

It's a stunning reversal for jobs that once offered unparalleled credentials.

....

I know. Fake news. Except it's not fake news. We're seeing this played out over and over as the pool of qualified people willing to work for Trump has shrunk to a puddle.

Qualified people who have worked hard for success don't want to have their careers ruined by the petty maniacal tyrant who effs everything up and has set up a revolving door for scapegoats.

In this case, good ones.

Few qualified rightwingers even want to work for Trump anymore. When their names are floated to fill empty positions they say it's an honor to be considered but they need to stay home with their families in their home states far, far away from Trump.

It is not good news to have the administration being run with a skeleton staff consisting of Trump and people corrupt enough for Trump to be comfortable with them.

But thank you for bumping the thread.

What does Trump need experienced professionals advising him for, he knows everything

Trump quotes just on military/foreign related stuff (he has a lot more on many subjects, because Trump)

"I know more about ISIS than the generals do." (November 2015.)

"Nobody knows more about trade than me." (March 2016.)

"I know more about drones than anybody. I know about every form of safety that you can have." (January 2019.)

"Having a drone fly overhead — and I think nobody knows much more about technology, this type of technology certainly, than I do." (January 2019.)

Yes, IMO it is literally "public death" for anyone with the kinds of qualifications expected to seek service with the current Administration.

NOT because of Trump, but because of the scapegoating and demonizing tactics used by those who think Trump is the Great Satan of current American politics. So many qualified people recognize and seek to avoid risking the all-hate all-the-time blackballing and denigration designed to prevent any aid and comfort to the Left's declared "Great Satan."

I find it both gratifying and quite surprising that despite all these road blocks and minefields Mr. Trump has still been able to accomplish so much of what he promised. That's why I ended up voting for him, he is the "bull-in-a-china-shop" I've felt this country has needed ever since I supported Ross Perot.

My growing concerns have been amply demonstrated by the viscerally nasty reactions of many members on the Left. Something that IMO harkens back (strangely enough) to the group mentalities of lynch mobs; the hatred is so deeply rooted.

I know. He's saving us so much money by running the country (into the ground) with a skeleton crew.

It's both bad and good - good because no one who is competent supports Trump.
Bad because no one competent is running things.

HAhahah, that's ****ing hilarious. Firing Tillerson on the toilet, that was the media right?
Maybe when he fired Comey via the news, must have been American politics!
Flynn..well, oops, that was due to being indicted on federal charges in lying for Trump!
Maybe it you were thinking of Bolton who was hired because he's a war-hawk, and fired because he's a war-hawk by Trump...and for the moustache?

You cant' lie convincingly, everyone knows Trump hires and fires on whim, and few professionals want to be associated with that idiot and is absurd administration.

It's never Trump's fault.

All these "best people" that he hires ... and months later he discovers they're all dumb as boxes of rocks.

Until the actual best people won't go to work for him even out of a sense of patriotism. It's just not worth it to throw away the careers they spent a lifetime building. Especially since Trump has shown that they'd be throwing their careers away over nothing -- because he ignores the advice of people who know anything. They wouldn't be helping the country -- they'd just be standing there lending their credibility to Trump's bad behavior.

I get that you're happy with Trump being destructive. You've been quite open about it. So really I'm just posting this to scoff at your ridiculous rubber-stamping of Trump's delusion that it's never his fault that his administration is such a trainwreck and qualified people don't want anything to do with him.

Qualified?

What does that mean?

Seems to me that liberals are fine with atrocities and corruption as long as a smiley donkey face attaches.

And you're very welcome - thanks for posting it.

Trump even fired a sociopathic war criminal in Bolton.

Liberals are incensed.

Some good points.

Liberals gotta liberal, and when they see their hysteria backfire in 2020, what will they learn?

Absolutely nothing.

Trump is literally Skull & Crossbones Hitler.

You know, I used to think it was stupid for people not to work for Trump. I could certainly work for a politician I did not support if I felt the work would be meaningful. I now think all the people who said "Nope" are pretty smart.

Trump hired him. Trump kept him for 17 months.

A rightwing talk radio host in my area said that it was horrifying that Bolton was in office for 17 months and it was the exactly right thing to do that Trump fired him. This rightwing kiss-up was showering the praise on Trump for being such as smart, responsible man-of-action in getting rid of this great threat to the nation (Bolton). The radio host appeared not to even have a hint of awareness that he was implicating Trump for hiring that great threat to the nation and keeping that great threat in such an important position for so long.

I share your outrage (& deflection) over Trump doing the right thing.

He's a Big Orange Hate Machine!

I've never said that...try again.

All these "best people" that he hires ... and months later he discovers they're all dumb as boxes of rocks.

Probably, (and I'm just "spit-balling" here) because much like many CEO's Trump thinks in terms of how to get things done, not how not to do so.

Most leaders do. Yes, they will take advice on how best to approach their goals. Even listen to reasons why it might be best to either try something else, or not to go that route after all. But in the main they want to hear "can do!," not "can't (or won't) do!"

Until the actual best people won't go to work for him even out of a sense of patriotism. It's just not worth it to throw away the careers they spent a lifetime building. Yes, and there we touch on exactly what I was talking about. "Throw away a career," exactly how? Of course by merely even attempting to serve apparently, since they face rancor and denigration while serving from the media and people like yourself. Then when they leave this continues unless they loudly decry their woes while serving in order to get back on the TDS crowds "good side" pending "good" (anti-Trump) behaviors.

No, I am happy with Trump ACTING on things I have been concerned about for decades. Illegal immigration, loss of means of production and the good jobs that went with this, fair trade as opposed pirate trade practices allowed by imbalanced trade agreements, etc.

Meanwhile, nothing shows how right I was more than the TDS reactions to his election. The non-stop resistance propaganda, the efforts to undermine from within starting with the Russia Collusion plot, the desire for a recession to destroy the economy just to get him out of office...all show how truly necessary his election was.

Trump's vetting process is, "Hey, this person said something ridiculously complimentary about me on national TV -- I'll nominate him to head a department."

Yeah, it’s Trump. All Trump.

Trump's decision making process is, "These grown-ups (whom I hired because I liked their nicknames and and not because I knew anything about their qualifications or philosophy) ... these grown-ups are telling me that this is a bad idea, so I'm going to make them think I'm listening to their good advice, but then I'm going to tweet the policy out so that they can't do anything about it."

Well, he doesn't put that much thought into it. The grown-ups tell him something. He concedes that their words contain wisdom. Then he gets resentful that a grown-up is telling him that he shouldn't do the stupid thing what he wants to do. So then he tweets it out as policy and catches everyone flat footed. THEN he gets pissed that people aren't ready on the spot to defend his actions on national TV. Often these spokespeople who are supposed to be explaining him had very recently said on national TV that of course Trump wouldn't do that, and that it was ridiculous to suggest that he would, and then they have to turn around and start trying to find the most convincing way to say how unridiculous what Trump just did was.

Still one of my all time favorites.

:lamo Trump wishes he could be 1/10th as smart as Hitler was.

Actually,Trump and Hitler are both smart in similar ways. Both harness resentments and grievance. Both turn them into a vehicle for power.

I've said it since 2017: Trump is dismantling the United States government for Putin. Every component of our government and our alliances that stand as a threat to Russia are being taken apart, piece by piece.
