The greatest lie conservatives ever told: Bush? Bush who?

You will constantly hear conservatives complain about Obama. Oh, Obama's economy didn't grow "fast enough." Or they'll claim that liberals will destroy the economy. And they say this with a straight face as if G.W. Bush never existed.

Yes, once upon a time there was a conservative president named George W. Bush who promised everything that Trump promised economically. He said he would slash taxes and regulations and the economy would be fantastic. And we all know how that ended.

So, surely, conservatives should be completely discredited. They had 8 years of conservative control that led to total disaster. It was the worst disaster in over 100 years. But no, they conveniently disown Bush and erase him from history. Bush who?

Bush wrecks the economy. Obama cleans that mess up and all these people can do is complain about Obama.

How do they get away with this?

Republicans hated Obama, just like Dems hate Trump, although I have to say Obama had integrity, Trump nope. Bush Had compassion, Trump, nope.

All I hear from all you people is how bad Obama was for turning around a failing economy too slowly. Yet Bush was president for 8 years.

Why should anyone believe in conservative principles when we had 8 years of them with Bush that led to disaster?

So, you minimize Obama's economic turnaround and then glorify Trump for going from 4.8% to 3.7% unemployment. All while pretending G.W. Bush didn't exist.

What's different about Trump's plan? Cut taxes and deregulate. That's exactly what Bush did.

Do you want to know the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

Every conservative executive I know always says, they know that Bush is a globalist loser. They have woken up to that fact. It'll be very interesting to see what the Trump supporters say about Trump in ten years...

By being realistic and avoiding spin.

1. The problem with Obama wasn't that the economy didn't grow fast enough. It was the roadblocks that he and the Congressional Dems put in the way of any economic growth. Without those roadblocks our economy could have been where it is now...almost 10 years ago.

2. The reason Bush didn't accomplish what he said he wanted is because he tried to do it the "establishment" way. The establishment didn't want it so it never happened. Trump says, "Screw the establishment" and he's making it happen.

btw, Bush didn't "wreck the economy"...the Dems did that long before he got into office.

Bush created the dot com bubble, caused 9/11 and created the conditions for the crash?

Really?

I wish that were the "greatest" lie. There are too many Republican lies to count at this point. What about the cause for war, remember that big fat lie? I'd rate that higher anyway.
No law against lying to the public, suckers.

Holy hell is that ever a stupid thing to say.

Clue: you cannot whattabout your own damn OP. That's not what a whattaboutism is.

You're saying that in 2009 or 2010 we should have already fully recovered from the second-worst economic catastrophe in our history??

Let's look at Reagan's recovery.

Bush inherited a fundamentally good economy just like Trump. But of course he wanted to outdo Clinton and he overstimulated the economy with unnecessary tax cuts.

Moreover, the conservative ideology was that government needed to "get out of the way" but the economy crashed because there weren't enough regulations regarding derivatives and also mortgage lenders. So when government wasn't there to referee, things fell apart.

I think they have all now admitted that they were wrong about intervention in other countries. They were wrong about Vietnam, they were wrong about Afghanistan and wrong about Iraq. The hawkish interventionist wing of the Republican party has been completely discredited. The Bolton's of the world have been marginalized. That's a huge victory for liberals.

But the "tax cuts will pay for themselves" ideology still lives. Bush tried that and it failed totally. We were left with massive debts. And Trump is just doing the exact same thing.

I honestly don't know how you can focus on any one lie Republicans sell, or believe. Today they lie and defend POTUS tweets that are demonstrably false, every single week. I mean, we have records said multiple times, that are then rejected based on (some conspiracy theory nonsense). It's the new norm. The idea that Republican care about "lies or truth" is absurd today, IMO. You can name a hundred, a thousand (if you have the time), it's a result of propaganda.

Tax cuts for the wealthy, obviously primarily benefit the wealthy, is a short-term sugar-high for the economy, and ultimately will be returned as debt our kids have to figure out what to do with.
The wealthy class is demonstrably doing incredible well in the U.S., and has for a long time now.
The wealthy class does better every year in greater proportion (income) than any other demographic, by leaps and bounds.
Income disparity graphs show this, as clear as day.
So why would we "invest" in cutting their taxes and harming our economy and populace more at the hands of big business, when they were doing better than they had in all of human history? Nuttery.

Republican voters watching Fox news, reject facts, because they are marketed to strongly enough to convince them the media and Democrats are the enemy, don't believe your eyes, it's all a grand conspiracy, etc., etc.
They know its lies, they accept them. They defend them *as lies*. Lewendoski not an hour ago admitted he lies his ass off on Fox news, to the House panel. Republicans don't care "everyone lies on TV" they say.

You won't change that, unless you take away the benefit the wealthy get from shaping voters to vote them tax-cuts and de-regulation, allowing them to gain even more power. Can't fight Republican voters, you simply have to find a way to slow the spigot of crazy juice, and enough of them will return to their senses. We're so far past Bush's stupidity, we're in cuckoo land now. That's my take.

Bush didn't create the housing bubble.

As they always do, they try to sweep glaring problems under the rugs. I promise you that they will do the very same thing with Trump.

sweet irony!!

by all means please support that claim with one fact that makes it true, logical and rational, thanks!!

We have a constitution that forces politicians to work within the establishment for the protection of the rights of the citizens and the stability of the country. A POTUS cannot go rogue and try to toss the constitution and 200 years of law out the window just because you cannot cooperate with others or you don't like how the government works.

Bush didn't create the housing bubble.

No, he didn't but supported the idea that cutting regulations and taxes was good for the economy. It wasn't.

The reality is recessions come pretty regularly. Your tax cuts won't pay for themselves because we'll probably have another recession. We should cut taxes when we do have a recession. In good times, collect the taxes. When times are bad,

And some regulations actually help the economy by preventing excessive speculation. After the 1929 crash regulations were placed on margins. The 2008 crash showed us that we need to regulate the derivatives market for similar reasons.

After the 2008 crash and seeing how Republicans were run out of office everywhere, I thought this was the end of voodoo economics once and for all.

Holy hell is that ever a stupid thing to say.

Clue: you cannot whattabout your own damn OP. That's not what a whattaboutism is.

Clue: I am not the OP of this thread!

OMG...

:lamo

I'm well aware of that fact. You were accusing the OP of a whattaboutism in response to the original post that original poster made. Duh. Hence my comment, which pointed out that the original poster cannot whattabout their own original post within it. How could you have missed that?

Clue: that was a generic use of "you". As in, when a person says "you should not hit yourself on the head with a hammer", they are saying "One should not hit oneself on the head with a hammer". It doesn't mean "the person I am speaking to right now is hitting themselves on the head with a hammer and this is a thing they should not be doing" when used that way.

I hope this overly lengthy response clarified things for you. If not....

And that is why I always wonder why Libs do things that way.

Yeah, tell us about the stupid things "libs" do.

Bush was the pre-trump. The righties loved him for the same reasons they love trump, and he was largely - but not quite - the same fraud trump is. Sociopath yes, narcissist no.

trump was badly unqualified, famous only for being the son of a president - they loved that, and that it pissed liberals off. trump was made famous by things like a ghostwritten book and a reality tv show; Bush was marketed by Republican interests. Both talked at childrens' levels. Bush can't say words? Bush has a scandalous past, with things like selling cocaine, dodging Vietnam? HAHA, suck it liberals! Both did horrible things in office.

You're giving them way too much credit, buying into their propaganda, by even referring to it as 'conservative ideology'. It's simply lies to justify taking away the power of the people to restrain harmful behavior and protect the public interests through the power of their government - nothing else, not some fancy 'ideology' as if it had a good intent. 'Conservative ideology' is a propaganda phrase for corruption.
