You would think that at some point he would just release them like all the others have done and be finished with it if he has nothing to hide, you know the most transparent president ever?

New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance's office has subpoenaed eight years of President Donald Trump's tax returns from Mazars USA, the longtime accounting firm to Trump and the Trump Organization, as part of its investigation into hush money payments, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The subpoena marks a new escalation in the large-scale effort to obtain the President's tax returns, a battle that has largely played out in courts as the Trump administration has continued to stand its ground against efforts to secure any of Trump's financial information. Trump has claimed that ongoing IRS audits have stopped him from making his tax returns public, even though audits don't prevent individuals from releasing tax returns.

Why some people think this president at some point isn't going to be charged with something, are kidding themselves. It's obvious the state of new york has a hard on for trump and at some point he's going to have to bend over for them.

Yes, you'd think he'd release them. But he has his idiotic fan base thinking they're being audited for the last 10 years.

Is the subpoena from SDNY??
If yes, they will be the political death of Trump.
2020, more coming. They have had a few years to gather information
Ah gotta love Mueller and the spin offs

Cyrus Vance, district attorney for New York County (Manhattan), NY. So it's NY law.

That said, I doubt they'd try to indict him while president since the DOJ's interpretation is almost certain to become law if it's tested in court: a sitting president cannot be indicted and impeachment is the only mechanism while in office.

One of the main worries I have in general is that Trump will engage in any corruption - and already see him trying to strong-arm Ukraine into investigating Biden to weaken him - to win, since for him it really may be a win-or-jail scenario. But if he wins again, he might just run out the clock.

I have no idea at all what the statutes of limitations are for whatever they are investigating in NY. For the federal stuff, it's generally but no exclusively 5 years. The devil is in the details (when he's not in the WH).

Don't people have better things to do with their lives than obsess about Trump, or most politics in general for that matter?

The people have no say... the senior politicians are all corrupt, just some more than others... they are in bed with the lobbyists and helping out their families with contracts and doing drugs and cheating with prostitutes and staffers... why any of you think that these people are good or care about America or your well being is beyond me.

Yeah, best of luck there. If they couldn't get them through a Federal Subpoena, how do they think they are going to get them at the state level. Tax attorneys have the same client privilege as any other attorney. Never happen.

Do you realize how many ways, and against how many charges, and against how many potential people with the last name of Trump, Donald can be eventually charged with obstruction based on the same trail of evidence the Mueller investigation highlighted? Only utter fools talk about 'collusion' as the end of this man's legal troubles. You need someone to potentially be charged with something as an underlying crime, that Donald wanted to obstruct. Who is to say who's crime, or which charge in which jurisdiction that either Mueller or the FBI could have spooked or motivated Trump into obstructing either Comey or Mueller or even Cyrus Vance Jr's investigation.

Trump just had to be scared enough, or pissed enough to have the illegal intent and then to attempt to impede.

I do not see Trump ever indicted. People around him, including falilies, companies he/they own on other charges

But to indict a former President, can ya hear the right up in arms? I can, and it would divide the country more than is is now

At this point in time, unless the Trump supporters see incontrovertible evidence, and lots of it of Trump/Family corruption and abandon him, he will not be charged. Others yes

Does/will America want a former President in jail?

I don't think we can get any more divided, not unless someone does something like ignoring the Supreme Court and ordering the military to confiscate all firearms (which nobody will do). I don't think potential division should be a reason not to go after a criminal.

If he committed crimes, put him in jail like everyone else.

Oh I see your point. But at this time in history, I do not see him convicted and sentenced to jail

I do see others in the family doing time.

Post 11 pls

What matters isn't that the state is enforcing the laws, what matters is that trump broke the laws.

Since it seems the federal level of government can't get the executive branch to cooperate the state level is preparing for trump's departure next election.

Both matter especially the idea in america that nobody is above the law.

The Manhatten DA really could care less how pissed Red state America may be. Matter of fact the controversial politics nationally, he might wear this indictment right into a governors mansion or a senate seat in Blue New York!

But I also have to say that many of the statements Trump made, that Mueller is using to base his obstruction case on, are not as convincing once you take the Russian connection off the table as the connective tissue between Trump's intent and his conduct. A lot of those self-incriminating statements/ tweets just don't gel as well with a charge of tax fraud, or campaign finance law violation. If you are selling his own words as his motive to fire Comey, you can't erase the ones that suggest he was not worried about something else outside the direct purview of Muellers probe but something more indirect that Mueller might refer to Manhatten.

I see him paying fines but doing no jail time. People of power and money are treated differently in this country than us paupers. Mark my words...

You missed my point.

I was putting the emphasis on trump's lawbreaking, not letting the trumpistas claim it's overzealous prosecutors.

Perhaps I was not clear, it happens with my posts

Trump is a crook and he/family are using the Office to enrich themselves and have committed crimes.

At this time as explained previously, I do not see the American public wanting a former President in jail.

The 'American public' don't get a vote. Unless New Yorkers are so adamantly opposed that the Manhatten DA has something to be afraid of politically, he could give a rats ass what people in Mississippi want. If New Yorkers are salivating for that trial, he can ride it to political advantage even if he eventually loses.

Doesn’t the IRS have Trump’s tax returns?
If the IRS found any irregularities in Trump’s returns, I’m sure The NY Times would be the first to know.

It's astonishing that after taking part in these debates for two and half years that you haven't learned anything at all.
