non-practicing = irreligious = atheist. Basically all act and behave the same.
Saul/Paul was a practicing Jew. So was the historical Jesus a Jew and never a Christian. Jesus also happened to voice what today would be called socialistic ideas and solutions for the poor and ill. But that's for another thread.
Non-practicing =/= irreligious =/= atheist. Irreligious means having no organised religious beliefs but perhaps being spiritualistic or entertaining some supernatural beliefs. Non-practicing means believing in a creed but not participating in the full spectrum of regular rituals of that creed. Atheist is engaging in the act of faith - that there is no divine - and having certainty in that act of faith in no divinity. So try to use the adjectives of faith correctly to avoid confusion.
