getting real in ME

What will the retaliation be?

Yemen’s Iranian-aligned Houthi rebels claimed credit for the attack, saying they sent 10 drones to strike at important facilities in Saudi Arabia’s oil-rich Eastern Province. The production shutdown amounts to a loss of about five million barrels a day, the people said, roughly 5% of the world’s daily production of crude oil.

Officials said they hoped to restore production to its regular level of 9.8 million barrels a day by Monday.

Iran's proxies strike again.

I'll lay down some $ that says the US military will help lay waste to some Houthi strongholds this coming week.

I wouldn't be surprised if SA and other ME countries...including Israel...lay waste to some juicy targets in Iran.

Warren's promise to shut down fracking on day one looks DOA

SA are bad guys. There are Jewish communities in Iran that have been there for centuries. It's illegal to practice Judaism in SA. SA promotes an extreme fundamentalist version of Islam. They execute people for blasphemy and witchcraft. Most of the 9/11 attackers were from SA. Some from SA government actually helped the 9/11 terrorists. Iran is Shiites and Shiites do not blow themselves up.

There is a cold war between SA and Iran. Why are we on the side of the bad guys?

The Saudi's should not be surprised and they would not be so stupid to start an all out war with Iran. They live in a glass house and have been throwing stones for years. There is nothing more vulnerable than oil installations. Perhaps they needed a reminder.

The oldest reason in the world: $$$.

As technology evolves the ME situation will become increasingly unstable. Israel and the U.S. have used the might-makes-right approach. Why is Israel allowed to have nuclear weapons but Iran is not? Might makes right.

When you take that approach the weaker party has no choice but to fight back using guerilla tactics. Now drones exist. SA and Israel can be attacked with drones.

What should we do? We should not get involved in this Muslim civil war between Shiites and Sunnis.

It has always been this "real" in the Middle East. It was very "real" there before anybody figured out anything about oil and gas.

We need to leave as much fossil fuel dependence in our rear view as we can. Depend on our own as long as we can and ween ourselves off of that eventually as well.

What a ridiculous mess of horse crap. Oh its getting real in the Middle East. Yea.....Ah-huh.

Looks to me like that "cold war" is getting hot. Do you think the rest of the ME will stand by and let it flare up even hotter?

Oil. Oil = $.

I might go fill up the car with gas just to be safe.

“They execute people for witchcraft and blasphemy”

Wait, this is a problem?

Let’s talk reality, Saudi Arabia is what Saudi Arabia is.

They are not anti-American in ideology, they were a solid anti-communist partner in the past, and to this day resist the machinations of international leftist extremists. Which makes them a valuable partner. Their internal politics are not our concern. The Saudis are nowhere near as bad as Mao as far as human rights go, not as bad as Castro, and the left openly worships Mao and Castro

It was already pretty hot in Syria. It will definitely get hotter in Yemen after this. But SA is losing support among conservatives so they have to tread lightly.

The problem with Warren is that she has short term goals aka pandering leftist soundbites, and no long-term vision for the good of the country.

"conservatives"??? Are you talking about the US? I'm not. I haven't said a word about the US. I'm talking about the Middle Eastern countries.

Don't you remember when a bunch of Iranians flew planes into American buildings? Oh wait a minute.

Don't you remember when Iran attacked an American ship in cold blood, and fired machine guns at the life rafts in an attempt to ensure there were no survivors? Oh wait a minute.

With friends like Israel and Saudi Arabia, who needs enemies?

I'm pro-America. My only concern regarding the Middle East is that we don't spill any more American blood in it. After that I really don't care what its retrograde inhabitants do to each other.

I don't even mind our 'getting involved' to a point, but I'd like it be for good reasons, not the corrupt support of the Saudis we have.

Response from the US...

President Trump called Saudi Arabia’s day-to-day ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, on Saturday and said the U.S. was ready to “cooperate with the kingdom in supporting its security and stability,” according to the Saudi Press Agency, the official news service.

The White House confirmed that Mr. Trump spoke with the crown prince, saying in a statement that the president offered “his support for Saudi Arabia’s self-defense.”

The only credible military threats to Iran from within the Middle East is Israel and Turkey. Erdogan isn't going to fight Iran for Saudi Arabia, and I doubt Israel will do anything drastic on its own just for Saudi Arabia.

On a side note, the first strategic use of a drone strike. Fascinating and troubling discovery.
