Trump stunned US officials when he called Egyptian President el-Sisi 'my favorite dictator' at the G7

Trump's comments cast attention on his coziness with authoritarian leaders overseas.

DONALDTRUMP

President Donald Trump astonished US officials at the G7 summit in France when he jokingly referred to Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi as "my favorite dictator." According to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news, Trump made the comments while waiting to meet with the Egyptian president. He searched over a gathering of Egyptian and US officials and loudly called out: "Where's my favorite dictator?" The Journal reported that Trump's question was met with a shocked silence. It was unclear whether el-Sisi heard the remarks. Trump's comments cast attention on his coziness with authoritarian leaders overseas. Others he has lavished praise on include Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Shortly after he took office, Trump welcomed el-Sisi to the White House for the first time and said he had "done a fantastic job in a very difficult situation." The Trump administration has not publicly criticized the Egyptian government's abysmal human-rights record.

Although this was meant as a [stupid] quip, Trumps coziness with foreign dictators is well known. I think Trump would trade places with any of them in a New York minute.

Trump's not a politician or a lawyer, that's why many voted for him.

People have said for years that Washington is full of politicians and lawyers and we need to vote someone who's not a politician or lawyer into office.

So they voted for Trump.

Are there really people who are still stunned by the stupid things that come out of Trump's mouth?

My first thought was surprise -- because I don't believe he likes el-Sisi better than Kim or Putin. Possibly better than Erdogan. Probably better than Xi since those two are having a tiff.

But it's not something we can really fact check. So let's just add el-Sisi to the list of dictators he loves and not worry about ranking.

Let’s hope that itch has been satisfied!

And since he can't, he'd like to turn the presidency into one if he could: attacking any institution that provides a check on the president being a dictator, such as the news industry and law enforcement, saying he wants to be in office for life, ignoring the law when he thinks he can get away with it such as refusing to honor any Congressional subpoenas, and attacking the courts.

As if you can believe anything he says.

For example, he's well aware that if he SAID Putin was his favorite dictator, one, he'd get in trouble, and two, Putin wouldn't be pleased trump called him a dictator. It's insane enough that he said he and Kim fell in love with each other. More insane that his supporters don't mind.

Yes but the president at the very least needs to act professional. This isn’t the WWE. And trump fails at it.

What the fcuk is with this guy and his hardon for dictators?

In clinical terms, penis envy. According to his co-adulterer Karen McDougall, he is not that well endowed in that area.

He may have favorites, but he never met a dictator he didn't like...

That is snarky, but I think it's wrong as the reason. It's a lot worse.

Yes. There is no doubt that he is a ***** and lacks courage but I think money might have something to do with his cozing up to dictators.

Well, when you have a prezzy-dint who enjoys yelling "Hey! Where's my favorite dictator!", it tends to make most people think that prezzy-dint isn't a fan of democracy, or pretty much anything having to do with American values.

Who else but a fan of dictatorship would even have a "favorite dictator?"

Why would any rational person support a wanna-be dictator and fascist?

Hitler was also not a politician. How did that work out?

I keep wondering why just saying "I am not a politician" is somehow a free pass to legitimacy.
Should I walk onto a movie or TV production set and announce, "I am not a Director of Photography!" ??
Will that somehow enhance my credibility as a photographer?
No, because professionals understand that a DP has years of training, experience, good taste and a valid and much needed skill set.

Just being a professional pol isn't automatically a bad thing, it's just that Americans are being conditioned to not trust government, ANY kind of government, to not trust our basic democratic institutions or even trust journalists.

So what does all that leave us with? A bunch of ignorant, scared and angry people who have no alternative except whatever floats up from the sewers, which they've been conditioned to think are used to transport cotton candy instead of turds.

The overwhelming majority of Americans are now acting like that lady who stayed locked in the bathroom and who refused to get off the toilet for two years.

If I need a job done and I don't know how to do it myself then I hire a qualified professional and not some guy who claims that he knows what he is doing but has no relevant experience. When possible I hire union people because they know more than some guy who has read a few books or took a workshop at a community college. Unqualified people tend to create more problems than they fix.

The law isn't easy and I want someone who is trained in the law and has years of experience in public service. We saw under Geo. W. Bush how ell it works when you try to run the country as a for-profit business. Dubya was a buffon but he looked like Plato compared to Trump and his gang of amoral misfits and thieves.

Trump calls a spade a spade, liberals freak out.

Why is Trump endorsing dictators? Why do you support a man who speaks l glowingly of political tyrants and thugs? Are abusive dictators your idea of strong and great leaders?

He's not endorsing, he's tweaking. I don't, but I get where he's coming from. Not at all.

Trump's biggest strength is also his greatest weakness: he calls it like he sees it.

I find it refreshing even as a non-supporter.

President of the United States of America Donald Ttrump's statement is not unexpected, nor in the least shocking, for those who have studied the clinical definitions of those diagnosed as narcissists and exhibiting the characteristics of sociopathology.
