Well another democrat TV debate in over with. Did you notice what was missing? Again no American flags on stage with the candidates.

What country are they running for president for.

Are you kidding? The red, white and blue color scheme of the flag was everywhere. You could not miss it if your eyesight was poor.

I guess some need to see their leaders dry hump the flag and have bald eagles flying over head in order to be patriotically compliant. Different folks for different folks.

When the colors of the flag were so in your face prominent - why do we need the specific item to be even more obvious?

Then there is the topic of the wisdom of appropriating the American flag for your own purposes and if that is even appropriate or wise. I am reminded of Sinclair Lewis

"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."

Be wary of those who are willing to use the flag for their own purposes.

But I think the colors of the red, white and blue were very very very obvious to anyone who watched even if they had bad vision.

Logical1:

The bars and stars theme was all over the digital graphics of the debate stage and background. That the debate did not have real flags hanging in between each candidate is understandable since the focus was on debating the political issues facing America from a Democratic perspective. If you are going to clutter up the stage with flags then why not all fifty state flags too? There is a time and a place for honouring a flag. It does not have to appear everywhere, all the time. It is possible to be patriotic to a country without showing the flag on every possible occasion.

I wonder if you even bothered to listen to the debate and the issues which were debated. Healthy politics is about an informed electorate making thoughtful choices and is not about rampant symbology without context, so even if you strongly disagree with what the candidates were saying, you should have focused on the words, not the pageantry. A flag is just cloth and rope on a pole. What makes a strong and healthy nation which one can be proud of, is the people who work day in and day out below that flag to make the nation a better place. Flesh and blood, not fabric and filament are the sinews of a great state.

Logical1 - because it indicates a Party attitude that even such innocent and common displays of national pride have no place in the modern Party.
Rale - because as a Party member he has approved the message.
 
Love of country can manifest in a number of ways. Wrapping oneself in the flag may not be a good indicator.

An interesting exercise is to check the lives of some who profess themselves to be breast-beating patriots. 'Conservative' talk show hosts will serve as an easily-identifiable group of such individuals. How many of them volunteered to serve in the armed forces, interposing themselves between their country and harm?

Another group might be those who will be running for the office of President of the United States of America come primary time.

This is the United States of America!!! We have a national flag, yet it was no where in sight at the democrat debate. That speaks volumes!!!

So far IMO extremely weak excuses have been given as to why there wasnt at least on large flag on stage with the candidates.

Service to country in uniform is a good indicator, but even aside from military service there are a great many ways to serve and help our neighbors and communities.

You find the most asinine things to manufacture outrage over... the entire stage, podiums, colors used, the entire thing was modeled on the American Flag.

But by all means continue to make **** up as if anyone buys the rhetoric that it was anti-American, or simply not American enough, or whatever your ‘coffee and breakfast’ group came up with.

Does it? The fact that the people on the stage are running for public office means they're interested in serving the public; which is a patriotic act. How many flags are present (or not) is more a matter of how much importance people place on symbolism. There isn't a correct or incorrect way; it just depends on the value placed on those types of overt displays.
