Huffman gets 14 days behind bars in college scam

14 days in a federal prison? What are the costs involved in this? 14 days should be served in county lock-up, bologna sandwiches and all the trimmings!

There was talk of doing that. Why go through the paperwork and expense.

There should have be a HUGE fine for her to pay also. All of them that were caught should have to pay a fine that is the same as they paid to bribe their kids way into college!!!

Huffman gets 14 days behind bars in college scam

How is it wealthy people commit a crime and their sentences is issued in "days", if they get one... and poor people (black, white and other), get sentences measured in "years"... and some get sentences measured in "decades"...

The wealthy get sentences, either measured in "days", or "months"... i.e. it seems for the sake of discussion, Wealthy women get light sentences in days, Wealthy men get sentences in months.

Poor females and poor males - get generically treated with sentences issued in "years".... for the simplest things.

Why is it the General Public Does Not have a major problem with that????

If these people had been Black, Asian, Mexican, or Italian, and Arab ... they would be looking at no less than 20 Yrs FEDERAL TIME!! Every Black, Asian, Mexican, Italian, Arab and Etc... who attended without have eyes of suspicion and judgement on them for the rest of their lives... with a big "?"... as to whether or not they paid their way in.... to these Ivy League Universities.

No one still does not want to suspect any wealthy white kid, male or female of any wrong doing, in regard to how they got in to these Ivy League Universities.

Maybe people don't realize how important this issue is... These are the same people, who pay their kids way in and pay their way out of school, and these "kids come out and get executive jobs, and "crash and destroy companies" and that damages people live, cities and communities.

Institution who claim to sent the best and brightest to run industry.. is exposed as a "pay to get past go", then collect a fortune, by any means one can, and be exempt from blame.... "ride the Ivy League University Title"... it works like a protective shield... "against having to take blame for anything one may do in society"...

Everything you say is pretty much spot on: ordinary folks are treated differently than wealthy folks, no question. In this country all men are NOT equal before the law.

That said, I think 14 days in the joint is a fair sentence for this so-called crime.

I think the general public does have a problem with Huffman getting a slap on the hand but I think her real punishment will be coming down the road when the free market wields the :minigavel

Her career is over... and she has been disgraced. She has to live with what she has done.

Perhaps, but she also has the benefit of being married to another celebrity actor so I doubt her quality of life will be adversely affected compared to the examples of other women who tried to help get their kids a better education.

How does this jive with the typical conservative group think that bad actors arent to blame just the public who believed them?
How is this a partisan issue. Some parents used their vast wealth to break some rules to give their child the best opprotunity they could. What they did was wrong but jail time is excessive in huffmans case.

You’re lost. Nobody extorted the people involved. They sought out illegal methods to gain their kids admittance to college.
Call it whatever you like, i know what they did and jail time is excessive

You think jail time is excessive. And you’re wrong.

Well, I think the justice wielders are trying to feign that the system isn't tilted toward the rich & famous.

Ms. Huffman is too big not to jail.

She's a brilliant actress, and I sincerely hope this won't affect her access to future roles.

When i look at the totality of the situtation i see it a bit differently than most. I see a society that put tremendous pressure on parents to provide the most expensive education they can afford for their kids or they are frowned upon as bad parents. I also see tremendous pressure being put on children to obtain these overpriced diplomas or they are looked upon as failures.

Along comes some huckster who claims he has a way to garuntee the children the opprotunity to obtain what society tells them they must have for success in life. So they take it, probably not even knowing that what they were doing was illegal, more an ethical dilemma for them choosing between their children or some stranger. Guess what they picked their kids and paid the guy the money.

Im not saying what they did wasnt wrong because of course it was, but throwing them in jail for this is as bad of an idea as throwing drug addicts in jail. Prohbation, maybe community services and fines is plenty punishment for the parents.

Who should go to jail is the people accepting the money.

Furthermore a hard look needs to be given to how these schools operate and why their tution costs are so high. People are being ripped off in the name of higher education.

Its shameful how aggressive the doj is going after these parents. They are the victims not the criminals here. They got fleeced by a conman selling them a dream that society tells them they have to have.

These stories are a shame...just as is the pretend outrage over rich people using influence to get into college. School choice should not be a crime. And people have been using affluence as a booster since there were people.

Nice spin. Did anyone force her to defraud or did she decide to herself? The way you spin it makes it sound as though she was a naive and innocent ingenu who didn't know what she was doing-which her own statement completely contradicts. Guilty as hell.

I would bet you would be hard pressed to find anybody in Hollywood that would say there was anything wrong with what she did, other than getting caught.

If they can forgive Robert Downey Jr., they can forgive anybody.

I would say that would be a case by case basis.

If the parent sought out the individual and convinced them to take the money for consideration, then the parent is right up there with the person that received the money.

if the representative of the college contacted the parent and offered this out of the blue, then I agree with you.

It all depends on who initiated the contact.

In California, she will be treated as a returning hero.

Her fine was. “Tip money”.

I said she was wtong for what she did. I just dont think jail time is appropriate for the reasons i stated. Its heavy handed.

I disagree that who iniated contact is the determing factor but i will concede that details matter and me using as broad of a brush as i did was a little inappropiate

Well you guys blame the public when they are mislead elsewhere. College debt or poisonous chemicals etc. Ylu dont blame the fraudsters then. So why the **** are you doing it now?

Integrity, both of the individual, the so called high standard of vetting people for admission, and being "honorable and honest" may not have fully died, but it certainly has been put on life support.... therefore, Principles has certainly been aborted.,

Naivety is a right, enjoy.

Ok. Justice was aborted for injustice.

This is sickening.

Only because you found out about it in the newspapers, to think it wasn't always happening you will have to deal with. Hope you get better, it isn't that important in the greater scheme of things.

Stay on topic please. I am not you guys and im not gonna defend some ambigious argument that you assign to me. I stated my opinion about this case. If you want to discuss something else start a new thread sn invite me to it. You may be surprised by my opinion on it. I am an independent thinker who holds an array of positions that are my own. I dont sit and wait gor domeone to tell me what to think. I listen to arguments, weigh the pros and cons, snd make up my own mind.

Ion this particular issue i see the parents as decent people who did the wrong thing for the right reason. Yes they should be punished but jsil time is excessive

Wonder what the difference is between these two women and Felicity Huffman?

Huffman will make big money from her tell all prison book. She wanted to use the title "Crime and Punishment," but was warned some would think she is a Russian agent. Possible alternate titles: Jailhouse Blues, I Worked on a Chain Letter, Woman in Chains (kinky), Real Housewives Behind Bars, Me and Chuck Berry I Slept in His Prison Cot, Gift Shopping for Prison Guards, Green Bologna Recipes, and so forth.

It's not as if Huffman openly supported Trump or anything. She'll be doing her salvation tour in under a year.

Some VERY good points; the whole thing is tragically nuts.

Robert is/was a VERY screwed up human, and more sympathetic, but I concur.

And not many privileged Hollywoodites would go out of their way to PUBLICLY defend Huffman, but their private feelings...
