Rachel Maddow, Head Cheerleader of Liberal Conspiracy Theories, Sued For 10 Million Big Ones

Maddow has nothing to worry about. This case is trash and will get nowhere.

It's so funny watching people like '3leftsdoodoo' salivate over something that might be negative for Rachel Maddow. It proves how absolutely terrified they are of her reporting, because she's a real investigative journalist and comes prepared with facts.

They certainly like to demonize leftist women.

Oops - she did it again. :3oops:
Lady Liberal Alex Jones, aka Rachel Maddow, is finally facing the music for her endless pimping of baseless conspiracy theories:
Rachel Maddow, MSNBC sued by OANN for $10 million - Washington Times
According to the lawsuit by One America News Network, Ms. Maddow "maliciously and recklessly" smeared the network by saying it "really, literally, is paid Russian propaganda."
In a statement to the site Law and Crime, Skip Miller, attorney for OANN, called the remarks "false and malicious."
"One America is wholly owned, operated and financed by the Herring family in San Diego," he said. "They are as American as apple pie. They are not paid by Russia and have nothing to do with the Russian government. This is a false and malicious libel, and they're going to answer for it in a court of law."

Will Rachel be able to find work with her right wing doppelganger Alex Jones once the liberal hysteria fueling her endless conspiracy-mongering dies down?
What causes people to renounce their credibility and behave in this way?
How are people so gullible as to believe anything this woman or her network spews?

Another case of "depends what the definition of 'is' is".

Liberals are no longer able to define the original meaning of a word, but rather what it is supposed to mean in their mind ...

"... Maddow ... blasting OANN and telling her own audience the right-wing network “really literally is paid Russian propaganda.” As you can see, the plaintiff claimed that counsel for NBC Universal said in a letter that by “literally” Maddow meant “not being literally true.” This was apparently part of the response to an OANN retraction demand. ..."

It's sad when a graduate of Oxford and Stanford and Rhodes Scholar needs a lawyer to interpret what she had said. (grin)

Is one of their reporters literally paid by the Kremlin or not?

I take your last question to be rhetorical.

After all, that’s how right wing media works. Tell the audience what it already wants to believe, and you can appeal endlessly to their fears, prejudices and resentment.

The audience will never read the stories, research the story independently, or look behind the curtain.

They’ll take it at face value and spread it around to their like mined friends.

That;s how the Russian campaign works.

Just the other day a right winger on this forum discovered and eight year old ABC story about flesh eating Chinese on social media. He repeated it here. Every right winger on the thread took it at face value and ranted about the Yellow Peril. None of them noticed that the story was eight years old. None of them looked to see if there was any reporting about it elsewhere. And only one or two of them thought it was odd that ABC News (or a front disguised to look like ABC News) suddenly decided to repost an eight year old story.

Instead they bought the story (which was a debunked trope).

That’s how it works. That’s how it worked in 2016, and thanks to Trump and McConnell, it’s still going on.

I agree that Madcow is right-wing - or rather liberal conservative - in her conspiracy theory fear-mongering.

Some excellent points about how she and her gullible audience function.

Summary dismissal.

But the lawsuit served its purpose. It generated promotion by the right wing trash blogs. And since the objective was to get the Limbaughloonies to look at One America News.

The monie Times, Daily Baller and the rest won’t tell you when the suit is dismissed either.

Settlement with apology from Madcow, or Madcow losing in court seem much more likely.

Indeed. Perhaps. Perhaps in part.

I don't know about these publications - they sound made up - but the suit won't be dismissed.

Madcow is trash but OANN is even worse trash, a cesspit of paranoid ramblings and the meanderings of idiocy.

Sounds about right.

But Madcow is in for it.

:)

1. People do NOT believe anything she says.

2. Her fans are fellow liberals who want to be reassured by that woman's propaganda. It makes them feel warm and fuzzy.

3. Republicans, fair-minded Independents, and fair-minded Democrats do not watch her show. (And it IS a "show.)

a. After all, who would ever want to watch a channel that gives time to a certain notorious "reverend"?

4. She's lucky: Defamation suits usually are tossed out of court in this country. (Maybe she can be sued in England, where I hear you had better watch your mouth or else. I think that our First Lady recently collected a tidy sum because of some English publication's venom.)

Some excellent points, but Madcow went too far this time, and will have to walk this back & pay up.

I have had the same screen name for fifteen years. I have no plans to change it.

This is the last you will hear of this story. None of the right wing blogs parroting this are going to follow up. They never do. Particularly if they’ve ginned up the story in the first place.

This is a frivolous lawsuit filed for political marketing purposes. They know the audience never follows up, or remembers.

Attention to detail...

The agreement was for a signature change (or in your case, adoption) not a screen name change. In lieu of that, we could also agree that the one who is wrong make a $100 donation to the forum. :)

Madcow will be apologizing/paying up. :) Nothing's been ginned up; she went too far in her paranoid Jonesian/McCarthyist false-outrage spewings.

How can she lose? OAN literally employs a Kremlin paid propagandist. His name is Kristian Brunovich Rouz.

"Kristian Brunovich Rouz, originally from the Siberian city of Novosibirsk, has been living in San Diego, where OAN is based, since August 2017, reporting on U.S. politics for the 24-hour news channel. For all of that time, he’s been simultaneously writing for Sputnik, a Kremlin-owned news wire that played a role in Russia’s 2016 election-interference operation, according to an assessment by the U.S. intelligence community."

How can she win?

From what I have gathered about OANN and it’s reporting, the letters need to be re-arranged to ONAN

How can she win?

Defamation requires both a false statement and evidence of harm resulting from it in most situations. She didn't make a false statement. Therefore, regardless of how much harm has been done to OAN, any lawsuit on the basis of defamation will be thrown out. She didn't lie.

Name calling is beneath you, 'Humblepeepee.'

Madcow is long overdue for a comeuppance, but I'd be just as happy to see any of the liberal conservative lunatics of her ilk get socked with a good suit.

Madcow's >reporting< isn't scary so much as ludicrous and destructive, and calling her a journalist is like calling Limpballs a Chris Hemsworth clone.

They certainly like to demonize leftist women.

I thought we were talking about privileged plutocrat mouthpiece Ratchet Madcow - am I posting in the wrong thread?

Incredible ain't it?

Madcow has bitten off more cud than she can chew this time.

:)

Ya got me. Perhaps. Indeed.

However, the lawsuit included an Aug. 6 letter from Amy Wolf, an attorney for NBCUniversal News Group, to OAN’s attorney.

It said OAN “publishes content collected or created by a journalist who is also paid by the Russian government for writing over a thousand articles. Ms. Maddow’s recounting of this arrangement is substantially true and therefore not actionable.”

Rachel was right to say what she said. You may not mind having Putin call the shots but believe me most of us will not stand for it. Go to Russia and see what he has done to his country.

That depends on what the definition of "literally" is ...

Exactly.

In this case, Madcow wouldn't have said literally if she intended it in a figurative sense; her defense is moronic.

This is why she'll have to settle & apologize.

Ha!

But free speech - whatcha gonna do?

It depends. Madcow made an egregiously false statement. Incorrect. Incorrect.

Its nice when you use a childish term in botching her name intentionally to let us know how inane this really is.

Just practicing, "when they go low, so will I". Rachel Maddow is a graduate of Stanford, she's a Rhodes Scholarship recipient and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in politics at the University of Oxford. Name one person on Fox with half the amount of intelligence as Rachel Maddow.
