Trump plans ban on sale of flavoured e-cigarettes

And a nicotine addiction is bad, why...? Do you have some study that shows people going from vaping to actual cigarette smoking? I have seen numerous people do the exact opposite.

Do you think we should let children become addicted to a drug?

Here is the CDC on the topic.

You will also notice it says that flavorings lead to increased youth usage.

Thats good damn question. I like my flavored vapes.

And you get to keep you flavored vapes, once the FDA approves of the flavor mix ... sort of like food-approved dye and drink-approved "flavors".

I dont see a problem. All the adverts were aimed squarely at young adults, as a large percentage are. I didnt see a single advert that was aimed squarely at children or even really tangentially.

I have to disagree, it very clearly aimed at young adults and older teenagers, they are not terribly different demographics when you aim to sell a lifestyle product and of course the "coolness" factor they have cultivated.

I guess cigarettes were never advertised to kids either following your logic.

like most Trump stories...HateOn more important than facts.

If you’re paying attention to what has been happening recently then you would know that none of these health cases have been linked to any product manufactured or sold by these companies. They have all involved stupid people buying black market DIY juice and cartridges from THC dealers. If ban the sale of safe products then it will only drive people to buy from those dealers.

With all due respect (and I mean that sincerely, as I usually very much enjoy your posts on here) - I think you’re overacting.

This isn’t banning vaping or going to make people who quit smoking go back to smoking. It’s merely a ban on the flavored vapes which are an unsubtle attempt by a predatory industry to get kids hooked.

Naturally, I’d want to see the complete details of the plan before I signed on completely, but in theory, I really don’t have a big problem with this proposal.

Using that logic then DeKuyper, E & J Gallo Winery, 20/20 Wine Co, Everclear and pretty much every alcoholic beverage company who makes flavored booze is a unsubtle attempt by a predatory industry to get kids hooked. You shouldn't be believing lies by anti-smoking nazis like TSET and others like them. Companies make flavored booze, flavored cigarettes, flavored cigars, other flavored tobacco products, e-cigs and other products because their adult customers want those flavors. It isn't some e-vile plan by some corporation to get kids hooked on booze, cigs, vaping and other ****.

Sensible. Vapes kill 5 people, ban them.

Guns kill millions, SELL MORE!

The death of one is a tragedy.

Tobacco companies make big campaign donations and tobacco is a major crop in several states; vape companies, not so much.

If you read any of my posts that is not the reason I advocate a ban, it is the marketing to children and non-smokers I have a problem with.

A lot of the vape companies are owned by the tobacco companies now.

Having more flavor options than tobacco doesn’t constitute marketing to children. The additional flavors are in demand and widely used by adults.

You think it's a good idea to turn all the people who quite smoking cigarettes back to smoking cigarettes, and you want to turn people who started with vaping and turn them to cigarettes for their nicotine fix?

It's a terrible idea. Exactly the sort of terrible idea we always embrace to make ourselves feel better so we can say we're "doing something" when what we're doing is actually make a bad situation worse. It'll start with flavored e-cigarettes and it'll cascade if it gets momentum. And then we'll be back to every nicotine user chasing lung cancer.

THis is is what cracks me up about anti-smoking nazis. So far no one has gotten lung cancer from this tobacco alternative and the anti-smoking nazis are out trying to ban it's use, trying to keep companies from flavored products and so on. As far as I know you can't get 2nd hand lung cancer from others vaping. This is literally a safer alternative to smoking regular cigarettes. When it come to vaping the anti-smoking nazis are like people who are against seatbelts and turn signals being installed in cars.

See my post with the link to the CDC, flavored vapes lead to more youth using it and developing a nicotine addiction and also leads to increased likelihood they will move on to cigarettes.

God I can't wait till this embarrassment is out of office. 2020 hurry up and get here.

I don’t care. Do some parenting or accept the fact that if they really want to vape then they’ll just turn to the black market as is happening right now. So either they illegally use safe products and you can admonish them for it or they use illegal products and you’ll have an ICU cyborg for a child.

It is not children either, it is non-smokers, it is in the interest of public health.

In a press release shortly after Mr Trump's announcement, the health secretary said officials "will not stand idly by" as a generation becomes addicted to nicotine.
Acting FDA Commissioner Dr Ned Sharpless said "if we see a migration to tobacco-flavored products by kids, we will take additional steps to address youth use of these products".
E-cigarette manufacturers such as Juul have been blamed for fuelling childhood addiction through flavoured products such as mango, cream or cinnamon roll.
Juul, which dominates the market, last year stopped selling most of its flavoured devices in order to defuse mounting criticism.

You are so right.

I would hope that protecting young people coming up in the world would be a higher priority than bitching about everything the government tries. It’s obvious the states have talked it to death. Its not aimed so much at adults as it is kids using tobacco products during their developmental years. Public smoking has been all but stamped out in California. Now is a small huddle off in some corner somewhere.

It is not in the interest of public health as the recent consequences of prohibition have made quite plain.

We regulate cigarettes, alcohol, gambling, etc. why not vapes?

After centuries of people smoking cigarettes it took the federal government until 1965 to order tobacco companies to put a warning on the side of a pack of cigarettes. It's estimated that there are 480,000 deaths every year as a result of smoking tobacco. A cigarette contains a whole bunch of chemicals including of course the addictive nicotine. Vaping produces a vapor, a water vapor. It doesn't smell, it dissipates quickly, it doesn't permeate clothing or furniture and can be done anywhere that you don't want to stink up like cigarettes.

There are approximately 60 chemicals in a cigarette and when lit, that 60 chemicals becomes 7,000 chemicals, out of those, 69 of them have been identified as carcinogenic and some even toxic.

Let's move on to the facts on vaping. First let me say that I've smoked cigarettes nearly my entire life, since the age of 15. So literally decades of tobacco abuse. I switched to vaping in 2011 and never went back. I was about to have surgery and wanted to stop smoking before I had to undergo surgery, to give my lungs some rehab time in prep for anesthesia. I have been seen regularly in the past 10 years by a cardiologist, oncologist and of course my own doctor. Ever one of them, even my oncologist found nothing at all objective about vaping. First of all vape liquids have nicotine in them which is not a known carcinogen, and it has a propellant to create the 'vapor' (no, it's not smoke). The same propellant either propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin base is the same propellant used at a concert to make the 'fog' on stage. It's also the same propellant used in the nebulizer (breathing machine) used by children for asthma and restrictive airway disease treatments.

Now you tell me. Is it better for teenagers to 'vape' or to pick up the habit of smoking analog cigarettes for life? I will never give up my vape, but I don't vape the sweet and fruity flavors. But I'll be the Charleston Heston of vaping, they'll have to take my vape 'out of my cold dead hands' because I'm determined that I will never smoke analog cigarettes again. A ban on vaping liquids is exactly what the big tobacco companies want. Another generation or two of dedicated cigarette smokers, then they can continue to add on their big tobacco taxes which they can't do with vaping liquids.

They shouldn't be doing vaping or smoking but flavored liquid leads to increased vape usage, increased vape usage leads to nicotine addiction and increased likelihood to smoking actual cigarettes. Your vapes are not being banned, they being regulated.

Many places ban menthols.
