Trump congratulates Poland as it commemorates Nazi invasion

President Trump is known to make the odd comment here and there about foreign nations, often because he doesn’t seem particularly versed in what’s happening in them. But even by his standards, this was quite a weekend.

Trump was asked Sunday about the trip to Poland he canceled to monitor Hurricane Dorian. Asked if he had a message for that country, which was commemorating the anniversary of the start of World War II, Trump decided to … congratulate it?

COMMENT:-

I'm sure that the Poles were absolutely overjoyed when Mr. Trump congratulated them for being invaded (and having around six million Polish citizens die as a result of that invasion).

It's getting harder and harder for me to continue to believe that Mr. Trump is actually in contact with reality.

PS - I await the inevitable "Oh he was only joking and didn't mean it." or the equally inevitable ""His remarks were taken out of context." or the even more equally inevitable "I never said that at all." or the hyper-inevitable "Everyone is lying about what Mr. Trump said (I don't care what the recordings that were made at the time and haven't been tampered with show) because Mr. Trump said that he didn't say it.".

Poland had a mutual defense pact with France and Britain, for all the good it did them.

“Trump congratulates Poland on its Nazi invasion,” read the initial headline to a Washington Post analysis by reporter Aaron Blake. The headline has since been amended to read, “Trump congratulates Poland as it commemorates Nazi invasion.” This is technically true, but still intended to leave the same misleading impression.

"... New York magazine’s Intelligencer reported, “Trump Congratulates Poland for the Catastrophe of Its Invasion by Germany.”

“Trump Accidentally Congratulates Poland on Being Invaded by the Nazis,” reads a headline published by Independent Journal Review.

MSNBC’s Morning Joe did an entire segment on the supposed controversy, running an on-air graphic that read, “Trump says ‘I just want to congratulate Poland’ on 80th anniversary of World War II.”
...

One reporter asked, “Mr. President, do you have a message for Poland -- ”

The president here interrupted, responding before hearing the second half of the question — "on the 80th anniversary of the Second World War?”

“I do have a great message for Poland,” Trump said, speaking over the journalist and shouting to be heard over Marine One’s engine. “And we have Mike Pence, our Vice President, is just about landing right now. And he is representing me. I look forward to being there soon.”

The president shouted, “But I just want to congratulate Poland. It’s a great country with great people. We also have many Polish people in our country; it could be 8 million. We love our Polish friends. And I will be there soon.” ..."

You guys know you don’t have to make up damning stories about this administration, right?

MSM Hate Machine has zero credibility. It's purely propaganda.

Okay... perhaps I was wrong... TDS has taken over the better judgement of certain media outlets.

Maybe it's you and the crap-spouting MSM that isn't actually in contact with reality.

No, Trump did not congratulate Poland for being invaded by the Nazis

Here's the spin from the article you cited:
So what seems like a better explanation — that Trump was congratulating Poland on one of the darkest moments in its history, or that he simply did not hear the reporter’s reference to the 80th anniversary of the invasion of Poland over his own interruption and Marine One's engine? For my money, the latter seems a lot more reasonable to assume, as all other options require the most uncharitable interpretations possible.

You guys know you don’t have to make up damning stories about this administration, right?

Trump didn't hear the question he answered. So what was he actually congratulating them on. Pense coming to visit? Poland being a great country? The US having 8 million Polish people in it? Or Trump coming to see them "soon"? Do any of those make any sense to you?

“Actually, libtards, Trump congratulated Poland for no reason in the middle of a commemoration he wasn’t paying attention to” is supposed to be a defense of Trump?

What did he congratulate them for?

Because he canceled his trip?

There is no reasoning with the fellatrixes of twump.

Yes, that's taken completely out of context.

Asked if he had a message for Poland, he said he congratulates them.

I am anything but a Trump supporter. These distorted stories dilute the credibility of genuine criticism of him, of which there is plenty.

No, we get that Trump wasn’t literally congratulating Poland on being invaded. Trump did congratulate Poland as they were commemorating the Nazi invasion. As, not for. Read more closely.

Edit: actually, just read anything. Not only did you stop at the headline, you misread the headline.

From Pence speech in Poland on Sep 2, 2019:

"... VICE PRESIDENT PENCE: Well, thank you, President Duda. Thank you for your hospitality, and thank you for welcoming us to the Presidential Palace here in Warsaw. And I extend to you the greetings and thanks of your friend, President Donald Trump, who appreciates your leadership. We offer his and my congratulations on a deeply meaningful commemoration of the outbreak of World War II. ...

Trump knows the speech Pence held. Maybe the lame US MSM could report on a few other world events and we would understand "where the President is coming from".

Egads.

Imagine, if you will, that the Prime Minister of France (Edouard Philippe) came to the US on Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The press then asks the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, "do you have a message for America on Pearl Harbor Day?" Macron replies "I want to congratulate America. It’s a great country with great people. We also have many American people in our country; it could be 100,000. We love our American friends. And I will be there soon."

Would you be glad that Macron congratulated America? Would you think he is tone deaf? Would you be insulted?

It's not taken out of context. The circumstances surrounding the comment are out there for all to see. They just don't make much sense. You guys still haven't told us what Trump was congratulating Poland for if it wasn't for the start of WWII. Come on don't be shy. Give us your theory of what prompted the congratulations.

So Trump was affirming Pense's congratulations but forgot to mention the fact? Was he speaking in code? Dropping breadcrumbs?

Congratulations are hardly a reason for your TDS to act up. Congratulations could arefer to a number of positive situations. That you choose to spin it negative is not a surprise.

You don't suppose maybe he was congratulating them for surviving that invasion AND Soviet occupation and becoming a free nation, do you? Yeah I know your thinking never extends beyond "Trump!"

Not my problem when your lame MSM intentionally "neglected" to report on the commemorative event in Poland with our VP's speech.

September 3, 2019: - Presidential candidate Marianne Williamsons (D): “I know this sounds naive. I didn’t think the left was so mean. I didn’t think the left lied like this,” Williamson told the New Yorker’s David Remnick in an interview. “I thought the right did that. I thought we were better.”
