We Are Heading Into A Bottomless Pit

This is an opinion piece so have at it.

Trump is doing to our nation what he did with the 6 companies he bankrupted and the 7 companies he failed with. His decisions have been all wrong and he is getting unhinged when he can't fix it by bullying or blaming other people (like Fed Chief Powell) to do what he wants, which in turn would further throw us into a deeper hole thereafter. He is raising further tariffs to "punish China into submission (which will never happen), or like he tried to do today, force big companies to look elsewhere for business other than China (which the CEO's will laugh at). All of these measures will hurt us a much as hurting the other countries, which in turn will hurt us all as a world-wide recession will occur. It is a no win situation for all.

All of this because he is trying to fend off a recession and feed his base what he thinks they want before the next election so that he can get re-elected.

Trump is using his power trying to force things to his way but unfortunately reality can never be forced into anything other than for a very short time, after which reality comes back with even harsher consequences.

Trump is literally doing everything in his power to disrupt our nation and the end result will be exactly what happened to him 13 times, which is failure or bankruptcy.

The only time he was successful at anything was with the help of the Russians through the Bayrock Group and the Russians want us to fail so they will not help. This was exactly what they wanted and they got the perfect person to accomplish their goals.

All of this heading down a bottomless pit is because Republicans are not stepping up to the plate to try to stop him from doing damage to our nation. This is not about politics anymore, it is about survival of our nation. What good will the Republican party be able to do with a nation of ashes.

Trump is the most incompetent person in the world and he is leading the most previously successful nation in the world down the path of not only implosion but economic catastrophe for the entire world.

How everyone that is a patriot and lover of our country cannot see what Trump is doing and step up to prevent it, is by beyond my ability to understand,

I do know one thing, history will not be kind to the Republicans that could have done something to stop it, but didn't!

Prepare for the worst. You will first see it in the stock market and then see it in your pocketbooks and then see it with unemployment start back up and in a fast way. Already many companies (other than the big ones) are at all-time lows and ready to go out of business. The big companies will survive a bit longer as they will get all the business that the small companies had to give up, but they will follow as well. Take it from me, unemployment will start to rise starting with the next report next week or latest the following one.

Mark my words, the United States has regressed. It has not gotten greater, it has dumber and will get poorer like never seen before.

if this is YOUR opinion...state that up front

You're assuming an either/or here--that either people are paying attention or that they are overconfident and complacent.
Quite the contrary, my friend. Did you not note that I said, "We should pay attention and take action." That doesn't mean panic, that means see things for what they are and adjust. For example, climate change is real. We, as a species, have the ability to adjust because we can anticipate the future. If we a) ignore it, and b) take no action, we are complicit in our own extinction. That is the program of the current administration, and that inaction will cost us lives and treasure.

There is middle ground between being hysterical and being oblivious.
Which is exactly the ground I occupy.

Quite a laundry list of fears. There could be another civil war or world war or terrorist attack or catastrophic depression. There could also be a worldwide pandemic that destroys two-thirds of the earth's populations. And aliens could attack us from outer space. If fretting about all these issues and also natural disasters and famines is somehow purposeful for you, enjoy yourself.
All of those could be true (except the aliens, of course, since we all know they don't exist. ;)), and if they do, we should prepare and respond rationally. At least two of those - natural disasters and famines - are certain to happen, as well as worldwide water shortages. Of course I will fret about that, and prepare accordingly, as any rational human being should. I keep an emergency food/water supply handy and have bug-out plans - I live near a volcano, for cryin' out loud - that is what responsible adults do. I'm not suggesting panic, but serious concern about real-world issues.

The same approach should be used when addressing economic issues (which is, I think, the subject of the thread). I have been a prudent investor my entire adult life, taking advantage of opportunities and guarding against market fluctuations. This administration does none of that, because it is led by an individual (and enablers) who doesn't think long-term. The Fed, for example, knows that it has limited tools available in a downturn, so has been gradually increasing interest rates to give itself a cushion and flexibility for the inevitable downturn. Trump wants to cut interests rates (which are already low) to create a "sugar high" before the election, but that is like spending all of your savings when you know you will need a new roof when the rainy season inevitably arrives. It feels nice to have new clothes, but they won't keep you warm and dry in the winter. Winter is coming. It happens every year.

Now, let me query this: Do you think the administration's fiscal policies are rational and economically stabilizing?

No, that's an American dictionary. In England we speak proper English. Americans also did, once.

Odd list of "sociopathic" failures you've offered there. I won't say anything; I'll just let you continue telling me how I should think. ;)

I'm genuinely curious, my friend, what you base your confidence on? Opining that "the sky is not falling," is great and all that, but is it a valid conclusion? What is that assertion based upon? So far, it seems, "it hasn't happened yet." That does not, in my opinion, seem particularly insightful. The list presented is not wrong is it? Does it form a pattern? If so, does that not demonstrate a basis for concern? Tut-tutting and poo-pooing does not a rational or enlightened discussion make, in my view. Do you have more to offer than, "is not!"

Are you blind?

The first paragraph is "This is an opinion piece"

Evidently if I am saying it is an opinion piece and I am writing it, it must by "MY OPINION"

It would seem that the grammatical error was misusing "do" - when the proper word(s) would have been using "accept", "respond to" or "address" instead of "do" to convey that thought. Hypothetical(s) is a noun (or "not a verb", as you noted) but that was not a grammitcal misuse of a noun.

Brains are essentially biological computers. As such, they follow certain patterns and processes. Humans are particularly adept at pattern recognition:
the ability to detect arrangements of characteristics or data that yield information about a given system or data set. In a technological context, a pattern might be recurring sequences of data over time that can be used to predict trends, particular configurations of features in images that identify objects
That is, in fact, what this thread was about: Seeing a pattern in relevant data to identify a trend and predict an outcome. Now, these recognized patterns do not always express reality,* but, on the whole, have allowed us as a species to survive for thousands, if not millions, of years.

The scientific method is often used to test perceptions in data in a meaningful way to draw conclusions and eliminate errors. Thus, entire fields of academic endeavor are created, like "climate science" and "economics". People who practice in those fields learn to distinguish between meaningful patterns and "noise" in data sets. The question posed here is whether the patterns detected in the relevant data sets are predictive or not. I tend to believe they are.chickenclouds2.jpg

* We could go off on a tangent about "Apophenia" and "Pareidolia", which is fascinating, but not relevant.

We're doomed. Trump is not spending trillions of dollars on leftist liberal weather fixes and democrat leader AOC has informed us we have only 12 years to fix the weather before it kills us.

Just in time for her to grow up and be president and save us!

That depends on which side of the pond you're on. American English usage and British differ in several significant ways.

it didnt say "my" opinion piece

and believe it or not, people have forgotten to post links on where they are copying from

just adding the word MY to the first sentence would have helped....

just saying

People support Trump because they support his policies. The liberals here who like to pretend they are the smart ones, cant get that through their thick skulls. Instead, they accuse Trump supporters of being racists and Nazis because that is all the small minds of the left are able to come up with.
I don't vote for people based on pretty they are, or how canned slogans roll off their tongues. I vote based on how their positions align with mine on the issues I think are most important. As I said above I'd have chosen Clinton if she'd advocated the classic liberal ideals of low taxes, low government interfere and rewarding success. She didn't even come close.

You continue to be uninformed and unwilling to research facts and learn

He is as incompetent at being an economist as Trump is at being President!

At least he provided the source for that opinion - allowing you to jump right in and try to discredit that source. Is there some reason that your OP left that option off the table?

You base your judgment on a Wikipedia article? Do you have the slightest idea of the actual identity of the author or his credentials?

Do you have any argument against his comments or are you just sticking to ad hominem by proxy?

Which one are you referring to, my opinion OP?

If that is the one, what link were you expecting, a link back to the OP itself?

and by the way, Navarro has been discredited by many renowned and knowledgeable economists. He has already been discredited repeatedly and for many years before this. Just goes to show the kind of people that Trump chooses......incompetent ones like he is.

See post below this one for links

Since you asked, here are several links to prove the opinions by others of the competency of Peter Navarro. I wonder if you will even bother to go to them since your objective seems to be a contrarian to anything I say. Have at it. I can bury you every single time since I know what I am talking about. You are all BS.

LOL, nicely done an appeal to authority logical fallacy. I asked for a discussion of what he said and you give me a wall of "see, these other guys don't like Navarro either".
