Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper launches campaign for Senate

Fruitloops didn't stand a chance for POTUS. He'd be better off in the Senate anyway.

That guy is actually very measured with a good head on his shoulders. We haven't heard the last of him. I think he threw his hat in the ring at the wrong time.

This. If he has a few successful years in the Senate he will be better viewed for POTUS. Depending on who wins next year, he may be viable for 2024.

It all depends on the climate, t. Right now it seems to be the time for extremists, both sides. As it stands, I'll go 3rd again. This is too ugly for me, and if this is what we want and support, we deserve what's coming.

Hickenlooper was the most moderate of the bunch, which is why he appealed to me.

Cindy McCain wrote a piece published by Wapo this morning about her husband. He was a partisan to his core, but he also knew that compromise was critical, and being in the middle was best for the country. Hickenlooper was like McCain in that regard.

I don't want extremists, and I don't want anyone who won't compromise. The best Presidents of my lifetime were the ones who would work across the aisle.

Flipping the McConnell Senate in 2020 is crucial. Colorado's Gardner is one of the many vulnerable GOP Senators.

I find this sort of commentary hilarious, and it's based in the moronic notion that the US exists in a vaccuum.

For example; MFA is not radical, at all. Only in this country is it considered irrational. Seeking viable alternatives to finite fossil fuels is not radical. Investing in the future of a greater america via public funded secondary education is not radical. In fact, most proposals are only labeled radical by two types of people; centre right people, and right people. That's it.

Why is it, for example, 60 cents on every dolllar taken in taxes by the government has to go to the military? As an american, I find it extremely disturbing that advances that would promote and enhance the common good for all of our people are seen as radical, but our extreme military budget and investment in inhumane, extremist wars, are something we just sweep under the rug.

He's way ahead of Gardner in the polls. He was way ahead when he still had his Presidential campaign. Will this be a Dem pickup?

Sadly, he was my #1 choice for POTUS. I would have loved to cast a vote for him in 2020.

I appreciate the fact that he saw no path to the presidency, and bowed out gracefully. He can do more good in the Senate right now, anyway.
I just wish about 10 or 15 more would also bow out.

Agreed!

I hope when he goes to the Senate (and I truly believe he will win), he pushes a pro-legalization of marijuana agenda. That's something that I think Trump would go for, and now that Sessions is in the abyss, it could actually get through on a national level.

I agree. Like, totally, man. ;)

I’ll be interested to hear from our resident CO posters, since there are 14 other candidates in this primary already, a few of them well-funded. Is there Hickenlooper fatigue in CO? I agree with TG that JH should have been in this race from the beginning.

Sessions is in Marijuana Hell, smoking a big fattie with the Succubus of the Cannabis.

I like Hickenlooper as well. He'll be a great Senator. Winning the Senate is as important as winning the presidency.

IMO, the Democrats picking up Senate seats and taking control of the Senate is more important than who wins the WH. Without McConnell capitulating to him, Trump is neutered.

McGinty should be in the Senate right now from your state. Too bad so many potential Democratic votes stayed home or voted for the Libertarian.

I hope he's naked while doing it.

Good to hear that he might cause a senate flip! New polling out is showing that Martha McSally is losing the race in AZ to Astronaut Mark Kelly. She is down 5% statewide and down 8% in the two biggest counties.

I think he would have made a decent President for sure. I do think he was one of the better candidates they had, in fact. But he just didn't have the exposure and it's all about name recognition when it comes to federal office. It's unfortunate, because I think the Dems missed a good opportunity with him. But we don't listen to reason and platform any longer, so we mostly just get the bottom of the barrel "jocks".

He has a good chance to win in Colorado, we'll see how it goes and if he can flip the seat.

That's two (CO and AZ). I think Collins may struggle in Maine. I would love to see Pero's take, even this early, on the Dem chances to retake the Senate.

That reminds me. Time to make another donation to the campaigns of McConnell's and Graham's opponents.
