I think (hope) everyone can agree this is wrong, so my question for discussion is what should happen to the participants at this fundraiser?
We've seen- some like me with horror- that Democrats have resorted to doxxing and shaming Trump supporters, simply because they exercise their right to participate in our political process and donate to his campaign. Should the same happen to the participants in this ugly demonstration of violence and hatred? Should we seek to dox those seen in these photos, if not everyone at this event where Democrats though it funny to act out assassinating the American President with a mock automatic weapon?

I would hope in the very least, the Secret Service is speaking with the individuals involved, including Democrat Sandoval.

Senator apologizes for fake Trump assassination photos

Photos posted by a woman who witnessed the mock assassination on Friday night show supporters of Sen. Martin Sandoval, who represents Illinois’ 11th District — which includes parts of Chicago — acting out in front of guests, according to WCIA.

One of them can be seen pointing a fake machine gun at a man wearing a Trump mask and Mexican costume. The individual appears to simulate being shot — grabbing his chest and leaning back.

In another photo, Sandoval can be seen standing next to the person holding the gun.

I have no doubt that he’ll be getting a visit from secret service shortly. But statistically speaking, it’s far more likely that the next assassination attempt will come from right wing extremists.

The triggering and further indoctrination of the left.

History has recorded many examples of such efforts. It's never connected to any good result.

What's funny is, this presumably left wing democrat is using a gun replica/toy that appears to qualify as an "assault weapon", lol.

Yes, at a fundraiser or otherwise doing a mock assassination is both unnecessary and wrong. We should be critical of those that think this was acceptable.

I do not know much about Martin Sandoval but this was extremely unwise.

I say do what you gotta do. I don't agree with demonstrations such as this and people should realize that actions do have consequences. Frist amendment rights don't mean you are free from criticism of your speech. So if these people are outed for their "speech" so be it. In the age of camera phones, internet, youtube, social media, etc. people need to realize their speech carries quite a bit of distance good or bad.

Of course secret service will have a talk with these folks but I would wager a bet the secret service will leave just as quickly as there is most likely nothing more to it than their "mock" play.

Unwise and revealing.

Should it be concluded Senator Sandoval is sending a signal to someone?

If the roles and party were reversed, I am quite certain there would be headlines and the liberal MSM would be broadcasting and posting it wall to wall.

Some idiot posts stupid photos and we go all nuts? I dont think so. Trump is a big boy, this stupid crap was part of the job when he signed up and we live in a rough and tumble political climate whether people wish to admit this or not. Much ado about nothing. We need to stop acting like ******s and save our ire for the real crap that needs it.

We have various law enforcement agencies that can make that determination.

However, we can conclude that anyone that supports this mock assassination attempt at a fundraiser just lost any credibility in any future debate on someone from the right spewing some hate that ends up a motivator for the extreme to take someone's life.

Freedom of speech and expression was never intended to be a weapon over someone else's rights, and the idea of a mock assassination like this suggests sending a message that someone somewhere might misconstrue as instruction.

Freedom of speech and expression bad.

Then again, I do think this was stupid.

I abhor slippery slopes, so I am not one to advocate for taking actions that restrict freedom of speech.

I do agree with your observations.

Has the media released yet the name of the guy who sees himself as an assassin?

Not necessarily about restrictions, but the point is taken.

My comments are rooted in the idea that rights come with the responsibility of having them. You are still free to scream "fire" in a crowded theater, but if there is not one and someone gets hurt you are taken to task.

This sort of thing is the next level, threatening to kill someone (even as a mock assassination thing at a fundraiser) is not wise for a plethora of legal reasons. But also in practical terms the idea is weaponizing your rights over someone else, and we cannot ignore that someone out there will take the idea and run with it.

All that said this idea is tested all the time, the line between freedoms and consequences ends up for the courts to determine.

In this case I am stuck with the same conclusion, this whole thing was very unwise.

Well, that's the thing, right? After El Paso, Joaquin Castro decided to dox his own constituents simply for donating to Trump's campaign. They had nothing to do with a crazy shooter killing people, yet they were blamed and pilloried with accusation of being racists. Now we have identifiable (hispanic) people (arguably left-leaning Democrats) participating in mock gun violence and not just any gun violence, the assassination of the President.
Should Republicans respond in kind?
Is this not only supporting violence, but is it racist?

Has the media released yet the name of the guy who sees himself as an assassin?

Of course they won't. Of course AOC won't tweet about it in order to wink-wink-nudge-nudge her cult to dox these people, as she's done to others before.

If the roles and parties were reversed it would probably go a lot further than mock assassination.

I assume you hold the same opinion when "the Squad" takes to social media and television to complain about threats to their lives and people on FB posting nasty notions about things which should happen to them?

I'll say it as I've said to everyone else that's done stuff like this; it's trashy, and tasteless. There's plenty of ways of voicing your disagreement with Donald Trump, than doing stuff like this.

Pirate's about the least thing from a liberal, so I doubt he cares about the "Squad".

The left, and their Presidential candidates, like to claim everything the President says and does is racist, so there is that to compare to.

Why not call this signal to their supporters like the El Paso and Ohio shooters, an an invitation?

It's really pretty sick. And the fact the Senator didn't see it that way when it occurred is quite telling.

If you're a political candidate expecting to be taken seriously, this kind of rubbish should not be acceptable and condemned immediately. Senator Sandoval has already apologized, but the damage is done for now.

A guy in my neighborhood had Obama hanging by a noose. Yes, this is wrong.

Always interesting to see the squeaks from the darkness on the alt-left.....

We already know what the left’s extremists are statistically likely to do, and it’s not murder. Thus far that has been, statistically speaking, the domain of the right’s extremists. That’s why this isn’t equal.

Sure thing.

Except, El Paso and Ohio kind of vaporizes your propaganda....
