The only answer I have heard from my "ok, when was America great?" question has suggested the 1950s. But that is pretty lame, given that the US was prospering on an artificial high while Europe was still recovering from WWII. The 1950s were great for blue collar union workers, Trump's base if you forget the "union" part and think of whites only, but were the fifties were great for black and brown Americans? Or were they great because they and women knew their place? Repeat that it is a great slogan. I bet Mussolini might have said "make Italy great again." That's the problem as I see it, as fascism as a style is a longing for an almost mythical past, and Trump's style is unmistakably fascist. (I don't use that word as a necessarily negative term, though I think it is, but as a measure of the appeal of Trump's style.)

"Make America Great" would certainly be a more factually accurate slogan, but it doesn't embrace the patriotism and nationalism prevalent in our country. Also, everyone recognizes, regardless of the reason, that there was certainly more economic success after WW2, and that more or less carried on up through Reagan. Since then, we've stagnated hard, in many ways, with what progress we do make all going to benefit the top 1%. So, it's not like there's not something to the "getting back to that" mindset. The people who have the MAGA mindset, though, never understand the reasons for why the good things stopped, and they'd want the bad things to return, as well, so that's not good.

How does that work? Either you are saying that the wealthy should trickle the wealth up the ladder to those already wealthy or, everybody should trickle whatever their wealth is up to the already wealthy. The only result of trickle up is the rich get richer.

What I'm saying is the wealthy should not be enabled by generally republicans to keep 90% of what a company takes in.

If workers were paid more and management less, consumers at large would have more income with which to purchase goods and services. This money in turn flows up to the business owner, making him decent money but enabling everyone to make enough to both contribute and generate wealth for the majority of the population.

Just as under Obama jobs increased and wages increased and mutual funds and retirement accounts increased. But that’s no reason to be stupid and pay $25 for a cap when you can get a MAGA type cap for $5 on Amazon. The same dumb-asses that voted for Trump lining-up to pay $25 they can’t afford for an F’n cap. I say can’t afford because you can’t show that wage increases translates into real increase in median household income. "Real" meaning inflation adjusted.

Practically all the tax break went to the rich and large corps while those with less got crumbs. No wall, won't happen. If ever, not paid by Mexico. And they still love the guy. Talk about stupid.

LOL, I love you guys "yeah, but Obama . . ." nonsense. He's been gone for 2 1/2 years. Yeah, he saw some tepid economic growth - but he started at the bottom of a recession; Trump started from the stupendous gains :)no:) the miracle of Obamanomics delivered and STILL surpassed him in every way.

Sorry, no. About 85-90% of those that PAY federal income tax got a reduction; even those that DON'T pay but get money from EITC got more.

When did it become great? Not sure I see any (positive) difference in America in 2019 that I didn't see prior to 2017.
