An interesting Psychology Today piece from last year on how liberal hysteria & rage over Trump will (and is already so doing) backfire:

Why the Left’s Obsession With Donald Trump Will Backfire | Psychology Today

One example of this backfire effect is that I'm actually considering voting for the wildly imperfect Trump, something unthinkable to me in 2016.

Call it the Nixon '68 Effect, but Liberal/Democrat conduct is so shocking to me at this point that I feel a man as repulsive as Trump may be the safest course for the Republic as it weathers the onslaught of dangerous liberal/Democrat attacks on the Constitution itself.

This very site has, in fact, caused me to recognize the extraordinary dangers liberals/Democrats represent - a dubious gift - and pushed me farther right.

Particularly odious are liberal attacks on free speech, the very foundation of our freedom.

Calls for violent and/or unconstitutional reprisal against the president who is neither Obama nor Hillary remain quite disturbing as well.

From the article:

There's an old Greek saying, "Anger takes out your eyes." When obsession turns to anger, people are unable to see clearly and, as a result, they may say and do things that are inappropriate, regretful, and ultimately not helpful in achieving their desired aim. The obsession with suggesting that President Trump is mentally ill, or the Madonna suggestion to "bomb the White House," or Sarah Silverman calling for a military coup, or still others who called for impeachment during Trump's first month of a four year term, could backfire as more people voice a desire for more productive and respectful solutions.

Amen.

"...the Left's Obsession With Donald Trump..."

These kinds of words are just a warning to the reader: "Caution: trump supporter ranting drivel ahead."

I'd like to encourage you to move beyond the ad hominem, and consider how badly hysteria plays in Peoria.

In other words, read the article, consider its warning, and comment thoughtfully.

TIA

In case anybody accuses me of leaping to attack the good Mr. Pattakos a wee bit prematurely, there's another article of his you can read titled, "Prescription for Trump Derangement Syndrome."

You are on a political discussion board which has something like 90% of threads started by Trump-hating lefties.

Oh, the irony.

And I would encourage you to jettison the partisan hit pieces. You're little different than joko, zimmer, and Doc.

Just pointing out this hateful president every chance we get. He sure supplies the reasons to react.

Again - a note to all posters - please ditch the ad hominem, read the article, and respond to the CONTENT of the thread rather then attacking the poster thereof.

TIA

I strongly encourage you to read the article to better understand why this is backfiring.

I've been pushed toward Trump, and I'm sure I'm one of millions who have been so affected by destructive liberal obsession.

There are plenty of idiotic, winding, aimless rants by trump supporters every day on this forum. Nobody needs to click on a link to read another.

Funny stuff.
You strengthen the author's point.

But here you are.... idiotically aimlessly winding about the O/P you don't plan to read. I guess aimless winding about Trump is a big poopy head threads are more to your liking....

:wink2:

Don't feel bad about that. (grin)

The phenomenon you are seeing/experiencing is what my husband calls "The Americans have habit of rooting for the underdog." And it's not meant in a negative way.

Despite the daily beating of the president by the MSM and liberals in general, Trump still ploughs on and actually delivers results on his campaign promises.

And the people see that ... ;)

And you make the OPs point even more clear

Just pointing out this hateful president every chance we get.

And its all you do every day. Not a word on anything positive just a non ending hate driven agenda.

Sounds like a Trump tweet or press conference. ^^^ Just needs more inciting of violence and a touch of cowbell.

Tweety is a bigoted, racist idiot. if pointing that out offends his followers, so be it.

Meh, I guess we'll see if it backfires or not. I think that Trump earns much of the ire that gets thrown his was through his behavior. And I'm not sure that voters are going to quite give him the chance he got the first time with Hillary. Even though he has seemingly raised a lot of money, I don't know if that's going to be enough to save him.

Trump supporters never have a point; just another long-winded, aimless rant.

Nothing like making the author's point; O/P.

"We cannot connect meaningfully with others if we believe that we have a monopoly on truth".
