Can someone explain to me why

Can someone explain to me why we do not have mass protests in the streets like we did in the 60's?
The more I get to know people the more I realize why Noah only let animals on the boat.

    Better entertainment/more distractions.

In the 60s TV was still catching on, and adoption wasn't universal.

Nowadays anyone that's not looking at a screen is suspicious.

The Freakonomics guys found a solid correlation between television's introduction and an increase in crime. It was statistically provable because some areas got television sooner than others, but they all got a post-TV crime bump.
Wouldn't be shocking to learn it had other impacts.

Also, the Internet provides the means to register your protest without going outside.

I think your last point is a lot of it. Social media has made protests on both sides, especially the right, more widespread.

In the 1970's, I could name everyone one of the neighbors on my street (hell, I can still name those people).

Now, I can't really name any of my neighbors. With one exception, years go by without a word exchanged. Our whole sense of 'we, the people' has vastly changed. Our very sense of democracy. The last 'mass movements' were the environmental movement (which worked but has been gutted by Republicans) and the 'no nukes movement' (which did not work). Occupy tried, but was almost a spectacle.

It takes large sums of money to transport outraged leftists into the protest site these days.

The difference is that in the 60’s, the mass protests were not to support any particular party, but a cause like the war. We went after the establishment, both democrats and republicans. We also wanted to meet girls.
Today the groups are aligned with a particular party rather than seeing the whole political system as flawed.

Gee, I wonder why that could be?
