Fact check: Trump falsely accuses Sherrod Brown, Dayton mayor of misrepresenting his hospital visit

President Donald Trump, his press secretary and his director of social media accused Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown and Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, both of whom are Democrats, of misrepresenting the reception Trump received from shooting victims during his visit to a Dayton hospital.

Facts First: This is false. While both Brown and Whaley criticized Trump's past rhetoric, they were only complimentary about his visit to the hospital.

....

Don't lie about other people supposedly lying about you and expect anyone other than your dedicated base to cut you any slack.

Go on vacation. Stop talking for a week. Your approval rating will go up out of sheer relief that you're not lying and hating on people and undercutting the message you want to have credit for. You'll never get the credit you crave because nearly every time you say something potentially unifying, you take less than two days to turn it into a lie with your hateful lazy insecure rantings.

Trump doesn't care about anyone else.

The number of true "swing voters" is small. It's all about hyping up his base, with divisive politics and insults -- even when he his job is to unify the nation. It backfired spectacularly in 2018, but that won't change his tactics.

There's no low to which Trump's administration won't sink, even lying about something that's recorded on video for anyone to check if they want to.

A CNN "Fact Check"? Talk about an oxymoron!

I know you were told to not believe what you see or hear. But please don't brag about your blind and deaf loyalty. It is foreign to American values. CNN is factual and if they make a mistake they admit and correct it. Your dear leader lies like rug constantly.

Smearing the messenger is all you got. Brown and Whaley both praised Trump for the hospital meeting.

Trump can't just accept the praise and take the good press and build on it. He has to turn every potentially positive thing into feces. Because that's all he has. And as his defender that's all he gives you to work with.

I actually saw the press conference live. Whaley and Brown didn't say anything bad about Trump. They just weren't drooling all over themselves while effusing laughable, exaggerated praise like any lobotomized robot in the administration. And surprise surprise. The baby-president lost his mind and started calling the unfaithful names.

I saw it suggested the Democratic nominee's campaign slogan should be, "we'll be able to stop talking about him." He is quite a troll.

No, a trumpista telling the truth is the oxymoron here. Why don't you prove your claim, by proving that Brown said what trump claims he said about trump being badly received at the hospital? Link to a video of Brown saying it. You can't. If you had some character, you'd admit you were wrong.

I was amazed (in the dumbstruck sense of amazed) that he can't let something (that appears to have been a positive moment) go on without having to open his damn mouth and create conflict. I simply do not understand what he gets out of it other than maybe needing to play victim where there was none. Or was he unaware their comments were being seen by the public and thinking he could make believe that they insulted him?

They did say something negative about him. But relatively mild (especially considering his reaction). And not about the visit to the hospital. They were positive about that.

I know his defenders say, "Well, if people attack Trump, he attacks back."

But if he meant it about unity, then at some point he has to decide to be the bigger man and let the occasional slight pass. Show he's ready to turn over a new leaf and "tone it down" as he claimed he was doing. Instead he just showed how accurate the criticisms about him were.

He knows that his supporters will just eat whatever he says out of his ass with a spoon. Videographic proof be damned.

I'm talking about this tweet of his:

Just left Dayton, Ohio, where I met with the Victims & families, Law Enforcement, Medical Staff & First Responders. It was a warm & wonderful visit. Tremendous enthusiasm & even Love. Then I saw failed Presidential Candidate (0%) Sherrod Brown & Mayor Whaley totally.........misrepresenting what took place inside of the hospital. Their news conference after I left for El Paso was a fraud. It bore no resemblance to what took place with those incredible people that I was so lucky to meet and spend time with. They were all amazing!o

I know they made negative comments on his ongoing rhetoric but that had nothing to do with the visit. He just can't get out of his own way.

Trump is a true sack of ****

Yes I read some of the replies to his tweet today. It's like reality never visits their brains even momentarily.

I've never had a Twitter account. I haven't logged onto Facebook in six months. For me, this isn't about political disagreements. Those are just part of life. What I can't stomach in this warped, modern age that I think would make the Englightenment giants weep is the rampant anti-intellectualism that characterizes American society right now. Up means up unless I say it means down. Science is a conspiracy theory. Truth is relative. Honesty is unnecessary. We are the most advanced, most intelligent species that we have ever been aware of. But looking out the window today, I saw a hive of bees cooperating in more rational, more effective ways than we can even conceive anymore. It's so depressing.

Democrats have been trying to get Trump to shut up for years. I guess they realize he got where he is now by talking a good vote-amassing talk.

He wouldn't let it pass if he wanted to and he doesn't want to. It's not a decision for him, it's not a choice. A small man just can't decide, snap his fingers and become a bigger man.

Btw, did you see Biden today? His summation of Numnuts was right on the money. I hope he can keep it up...

He got to where he is because people in the midwest hated Hillary more than they hated Trump.

And now the people in the midwest hate Trump even more than they did before.

He wants love. He craves love. He would like nothing better than to have his polling average rise above 50%, the actual average, not just Rasmussen occasionally going up to 50% before sliding back down into the 40's. And he could have it, if he could keep his yap closed. But he can't keep his yap closed. Gloat all you want. He would dearly love the credit and the ratings he would earn if he could go a week without making a fool of himself.

In spite of his great name recognition, he was an unknown quantity as far as political leadership. Now he's a known quantity so he won't get the "let's give him a chance" vote that he got last time. We gave him a chance and what we got was a nonstop hate machine.

I didn't see Biden ... will go look now.

LOL, CNN spins again. Brown and the mayor were lukewarm at best.

Fair enough. Good for him. Too bad for Hillary.

And now the people in the midwest hate Trump even more than they did before.

Possibly, but not proven, but it does not matter anyway because we do not or should not act as a nation on popular opinions. We should make decisions based upon good judgment and acceptable logic.

Sounds like a typical politician.

You differ with him and his supporters on issues so why do you think he would gain more by abandoning those who got him where he is in order to woo those who have proven they want him dead?

Obama was also an unknown before unrepentant American terrorist bomber Bill Ayers introduced him to the dirty world of American politics via the Chicago democrat Tammany Hall mob headquarters.

I am married to a Trump voter who has lost confidence in Trump (to say the least) and have many friends who are either Trump supporters or who vote but aren't political. I have insight into the mindset.

If Trump would just be chill, he would not lose the people who love him now. They would think he was being clever to try to woo the middle. And that's who I'm talking about Trump winning over -- the middle. Not the people who want him "dead". The people who want to be able to mind their own business and go about their lives and not have to worry about the people in Washington doing stupid things.

If Trump could be chill for a week, those people would feel very reassured. Independents are currently leaning against Trump. If Trump could show he was capable of going a week without showing his ass, that would be such a big difference that he would win quite a few back. And if he could go a month, he would probably easily get his ratings over 50%.

Brown is about Brown, that is for sure.

I'm sure you have some good insights into a few people's thinking, but I don't agree that Trump should try something different now than what worked so well for him before in spite of similar criticism to yours before he was elected the first time.
