When will we get some laws on the books for domestic terrorism?

Knowing that someone (from Allen, TX) posted a "manifesto" is not a good clue that a mass shooting is about to occur over 600 miles away in El Paso, TX.

Yeah if the laws were the same for domestic terrorism as they are for international, there would have been more than an hour or 25 minutes.
Its gonna be one or the other. Ban all Guns or try to figure out a way for these things to be stopped before they happen.
Pick one I'm not in favor of #1 but I'm tired of people being gunned down in churches, schools, theaters and malls so we need to stop hand wringing and decide which one its gonna be.

To be fair, the amount of information you could actually get from one of these websites is pretty sparse. You don't even make an account to post on them.

If we can stop ISIS and al Qaeda attacks we should be able to stop some 21 year old with no experience in anything.

I'll admit that I haven't been following the reporting. That's why I asked why you would characterize this as domestic terrorism. So, can you give me a rundown on the particular reporting you've seen that makes you think this act meets those two conditions?

Not bothering plenty for you to read if your interested.

What exactly do you think they are going to do in 25 minutes or even an hour, presuming they believe the manifesto? This is were learning to defend yourself and how to be aware of your surroundings pays dividends. The police cannot prevent everything nor can they be everywhere. You ARE the first responder when you are in those situations.

A really good book on what you need to think about and do.

Judge the book for its content not the authors. It shows you what to look for and how to act. I have learned this stuff over my whole life. Most of what I have learned is stuffed in this book.

Yeah you want me to read a book on how to protect myself against people that I live in a country with that hate me because of my skin color...yeah I'm the one that's gotta read. That's the answer.

Everyone is always at risk. I had plane tickets for 11:00 am on 9\11. My stepfather was talking to 5 friends for the last time when an artillery shell killed everyone but him. The person directly in front of him shielded him. He took shrapnel but nothing lethal. He was a cook taking a break outside the mess trying to cool off on a hot summer day in Korea.
You can't live your life in fear. If you do then you have let them win. In this country citizens have rights that hamper investigations. It was a major problem for Bush right after 911. How far do you go before we are no longer are free people. The NSA and other government officials are already dangerously close to unconstitutional right now. Waterboarding gave us lots of information that prevented attacks on this country and around the world. Do we start doing that to everyone we suspect may have information we need? The sad fact is if we give law enforcement a green light to do whatever they want to stop these actions we will have lost our freedom. Too many people have died to go down that road.

The 2 examples you gave
1 an action that was considered an act of war...that started a forever war.
Who do you go to war with when your own are attacking?
2 during a war active engagement.

I swear sometimes it feels like we have been at war for so long all over the ****ing world people just can't see this should not be happening to our own by our own in our ****ing country.

If you wish to protect yourself and your loved ones, then yes you will read if not that book then another on the subject or you will get trained. Your safety is your responsibility. My clan and I operate under that principle and we haven't been failed by it.

Yes it is an answer, just not the one you want to hear. There are always going to be bad people who will do bad things, so my question to you, is does it really matter why they do those things?

Freedom and Responsibility are two sides of the same coin, one cannot have one without the other.

Listening to the FBI they only had an hour to stop this....because they can't treat this the same as you would a foreign terrorists. They can't investigate the same way...wtf?

This El Paso shooting has shaken me personally.
I was in that damn Walmart last night. I was at the fountain shopping and having dinner.
But for a few hours I could be one of the 20 dead or 26 injured.
I'm here, I gave blood and will be leaving the area in the morning, something I won't forget soon, it's the saddest thing to actually be in the immediate vicinity of something like this.
It's easy to watch it on TV or talk about it in the abstract....being in the effected community just sucks.

Best of luck getting everyone to agree on what constitutes domestic terrorism.

Personally, I would like to see "religious crimes against humanity" laws on the books.

Not bothering plenty for you to read if your interested.

So...not willing to trot out your conspiracy theories. I don't blame you.

Toodles...

America has been at war with someone, somewhere, for 222 out of 239 years since it came into being. Only 21 peaceful years since 1776.

Maybe because he recognises it for what it is? How would you characterise it? A temporary mental malfunction?

You are late to the party. Read the thread. Get up to speed.

Then get back to me.

This still doesn't address to "why" these things happen does it?

Yes, run away when challenged; that's the ticket. You have yourself a great, ignorant, day.

Not running away, just not interested in wasting time with someone who doesn't want to talk about the motivations these mass killers are driven by.

The UK has few guns, so mass killers are using knives, acid, cars. What's the common denominator? What's driving these terrorists?

But you want to play word games.

So be it.

Have fun pointing fingers elsewhere.

We will get laws that address domestic terrorism when Trump is out of office and we have a president and a Senate that cares about people's lives more than they do about getting their way.

There was another mass shooting last night in Dayton, Ohio where 9 people died and 20 people injured.

This is the 250th mass shooting this year and it is a record.

This is the Presidency of a man that stimulates and supports hate and it is certainly being confirmed by the numbers.

As I am writing this post I am hearing that the El Paso killer in the Manifesto he wrote gave as his reason for the killing was to make a statement about illegal aliens coming to the U.S.

Trump could do many things to diffuse this kind of action but what he does is stoke this kind of action.

Be careful what you wish for. This is how tyranny comes - it uses the compelling cases to get measures in place, and then abuses them.

We want people like Bush and trump constrained, not unleashed. Imagine all the people like reporters trump would use new powers on as supposed 'terrorists' if he could. This needs to be looked at carefully. There's a reason we use caution in unleashing our government on our citizens, why we have Posse Comitatus - those powers can grow into a direct threat to democracy, as J. Edgar Hoover showed.

Terrorism has been around for ever. We act as if this is some new problem but governments and groups of people have been terrorizing people going back thousands of years before BC. When the Romans nailed people to a cross along the roads so the people could watch them die slowly over days. This was clearly a use of terror to accomplish a goal. The Sicarii were an early Jewish terrorist organization founded in the first century AD with the goal of overthrowing the Romans in the Middle East. The Brutal killing of people to strike terror to achieve a goal has been around forever.

Yes, we had decades of IRA terrorism to deal with in Britain; bombings, killings, kidnappings and the IRA speciality, kneecapping with an electric drill. Americans gave them money to do this via Noraid.
