Trump has not built a single mile of new border fence after 30 months in office

SAN DIEGO, California — The Trump administration has not installed a single mile of new wall in a previously fenceless part of the U.S.-Mexico border in the 30 months since President Trump assumed office, despite his campaign promise to construct a “big beautiful wall.”

In a statement last week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the federal agency overseeing border barrier construction, confirmed that all the fencing completed since Trump took office is "in place of dilapidated designs" because the existing fence was in need of replacement.

The agency said that it had built 51 miles of steel bollard fence with funding that was set aside during fiscal 2017 and 2018. But while the funding was meant both to replace outdated walls and to place barriers where there previously had been none, the government has only completed the replacement projects. The projects to secure areas with no fence are still in the works.

The president’s defensive tweets appear to have been prompted by a segment on his favorite morning show, Fox News's “Fox & Friends,” with the missive coming little over an hour after the issue was briefly discussed.

“Big story in Drudge today, we’ve only built a mile and a half — a mile and a half of wall but yet, we’ve been allocated to build at least 100 miles of wall,” co-host Brian Kilmeade exclaimed at the top of Wednesday’s show, referring a story posted by conservative news aggregator Drudge Report. “But for some reason they just can't seem to get it done. Unbelievable.”

“A lot of conservatives say it needs to be done,” co-host Ainsley Earhardt chimed in.

Drudge linked to a Bloomberg story on the ongoing lawsuit over Trump’s emergency declaration to unlock Pentagon funding for the wall. The story cites a Tuesday court filing in which a lawyer for the House of Representatives revealed that as of April 30, U.S. Customs and Border Protection had reported only 1.7 miles of “fencing” with the $1.57 billion in funding Congress approved last fiscal year.

At a rally in Pennsylvania on Monday, the president vowed to supporters that his administration would have 500 miles of wall completed by the 2020 election — an increase from his previous promises to have at least 400 miles of wall finished by the end of next year. According to the Associated Press, the Trump administration has only awarded contracts for 244 miles of wall construction, more than half of which is tied up in legal challenges and the majority of which would go toward replacement projects.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has put up just 1.7 miles of fencing with the US$1.57 billion that Congress appropriated last year for President Donald Trump’s wall along the Mexican border, a federal judge was told.
A lawyer for the Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives provided the information Tuesday to the judge in Oakland, California, who is weighing requests from 20 state attorneys general and the the Sierra Club to block Trump from using funds not authorized by Congress to build the wall.

"The administration recently provided updated information to Congress on the status of its efforts as of April 30, 2019," the attorney, Douglas Letter, said in a court filing. "Based on that updated information, it appears that CBP has now constructed 1.7 miles of fencing with its fiscal year 2018 funding."


President Donald Trump also commented on the progress of the wall construction on Twitter Wednesday, saying “tremendous work is being done.”

Not really hissied, I think he's been a total failure and can't wait to vote against him. So if you count that a "hissy", color me hissied; and if that's a win for Don Vito tRump … it's his only one.

Well, apparently the plan was for Mexico to finance the wall. Since Mexico has yet to pony up, there isn't any money to pay for Trumpy's beautiful, impregnable, sold concrete with rebar, 30-foot sea-to-sea barrier. Trumpy has tried getting American tax payers to foot the bill with the promise that he would make Mexico pay us back, but this proposal seems to have fallen a bit flat. He has tried changing the wall into a tasteful metal fence that would cost less, but people aren't buying that either. He has tried to claim that improvements to existing barriers and short stretches of prototype fence are just as good as a great beautiful concrete wall stretching from sea-to-sea but that has resulted in no enthusiasm. And this is just a summary. You really needed to be here.

Also, the foreign migrant problem has gotten worse, despite trump's promise that he's solve the immigration problem. Also, no "health care system that will cover everyone better and cheaper and it will be so easy". Also, manufacturing and coal mining jobs are still in the toilet. This is why trump has pivoted back to appealing to racists and xenophobes. It will distract his base from what he promised and it's what won him the election in 2016.

I had to sit though enough of this crap from right wing voters when Obama kept failing with his promises and I can already tell that the lot of you are just doing the same, but in your own rotation.

The lot of you could try and grow the hell up at this point. Hell, I expected this from calamity and the others. But most definitely not you. Trump has actually been doing work for the wall, like Obama tried with universal healthcare. Yet politicking and continued bickering between parties got in the way.

I don't hold it against him. Another president failed a campaign promise, so what?
The lot of you just need to walk on and at least attempt to be the bigger person for once.

Not sure i understand what Trump is being blamed for here?

The left has implimented every possible tactic to obstruct Trumps progress and now they want to blame Trump for his efforts being stalled???

Whst Trump does desrbe criticism for is that he hasnt played hardball enough with these people.
