Trump has not built a single mile of new border fence

Trump said he was going to make a solar wall, then sell the electricity to Mexico. What happened to that idea?

Christ, any decent businessman could tell this was a stupid idea in less than five seconds. But not Trump. "Solar wall. Makes sense" :lamo

Lots of politicians promise a lot of things and do not deliver. Why are you holding Trump to a higher standard?

He has failed at building a border wall that Mexico will pay for. In fact any wall that does get constructed will be paid for by American taxpayers and/or private funding. The lie about Mexico paying for it through the new trade deal and tariffs can't even be substantiated by the White House. Those that have looked at the deal say there is absolutely nothing in it remotely indicating Mexico will pay for a border wall directly or indirectly. So, to recap: Mexico has not paid for the wall by check, or will they indirectly through the trade deal and tariffs. Tariffs will either be absorbed by the businesses in the U.S., or passed to the U.S. consumers. His only hope is private funding, so not what he said for 3 years.

The plan would work if Congress was behind it... Presidents make promises all the time that are ideal but not always practical. That is how it works but I am sure that you are just as hard on Clinton and Obama when their promises do not happen... right?

For one thing, he's still lying about it!

What is the lie... specifically? Post the quote and the evidence that his quote is inaccurate and that he knows that it is inaccurate.

Thanks...

We're to believe that he believed Mexico would pay for it? Even if we grant some tax scheme as the vehicle, that's not Mexico paying for it. That's Mexicans working in America paying for it. Which, on its face, is a bit grotesque.

If it came in the form of tariff's... it could easily work. But with Democrats not helping and NAFTA and other stupid barriers... it is difficult.

So you don't really have an argument. Gotchya.

If he's not going to use any of the wall funding already appropriated by Congress - $1.7 billion - why does he need to raid Pentagon funding?

The proposal at the time was not tariffs. I'm not sure when tariffs came into play. At the time of the claim/promise/political bs of a particularly spectacular nature, the plan was to tax money sent to Mexico.

How am I supposed to know that?

That could work too... I worked in fine dining and we would have Mexican busboys and dishwashers that would live 14 in a two bedroom apartment NOT because they could not afford their own ones but because they were sending almost ALL of their money south of the border... out of America's economy.

Taxing money sent to Mexico is not Mexico paying for it. It's Mexicans working in America and American residents and American citizens paying for it. It's American families and businesses and charities paying for it.

Wait what lie are we talking about here, it's hard to keep track. Is it regarding the wall in general, or the solar wall?

the solar wall?

A true Trump classic. Remember his base crowing about how brilliant Trump was to think of it?

Sadly, most have about the same business acumen as Trump, and like him didn't recognize it for the stupidity it was.

If that's your concern, I can offer a simple solution: Allow them to move their families into the USA.

Working to build a wall is "blow up the immigration problem"? I don't think so. I think the opposition to his wall is blowing up the immigration problem.

Let's look at this, eh?

1. Trump asks Congress to take steps to make Mexico pay for the wall. Congress ignores him.

2. Trump asks Congress to give him money to build the wall. Congress not only denies him the money, they shut down the government in the process.

3. Trump takes other steps...declaring a National Emergency (which everyone now agrees it is). Congress takes Trump to court in an attempt to prevent him doing this.

Every step Trump takes to deal with the immigration problem is rejected and opposed by Congress.

And now...when Trump is succeeding in dealing with the problem without Congress, we have Congress members making **** up...concentration camps, racist, "no new wall", etc...and then complaining that Trump isn't keeping his promise.

But somehow, you think it's Trump blowing up immigration.

How soon they forget.

Yeah, strange how incarcerating brown skin children in Concentration Camps without proper food or hygiene can cause a National Emergency. Who da thunk?

How soon they forget.

Not me.

I remember the USA is incarcerating brown skinned children in Concentration Camps without proper food or hygiene.

But boy, do I ever take a lot of flack from a certain group when I mention it. The way they defend this strategy, it's almost like they enjoy seeing brown skinned children incarcerated in Concentration Camps without proper food or hygiene. Like it's a warning to other possible immigrants.
