Hmm...the walk back lasted a day. Now?

“Incredible patriots” is the new “very fine people”: Trump defends racist chants

During an Oval Office event on Friday that was ostensibly to honor Apollo 11 astronauts, Trump cut off a reporter ....

“You know what I’m unhappy with? I’m unhappy with the fact that a congresswoman can hate our country,” Trump said, alluding to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), one of a group of four congresswomen of color whom he last Sunday admonished on Twitter to “go back” to the countries they came from (Omar is a Somali refugee; the other three women were born in America). “I’m unhappy with the fact that a congresswoman can say anti-Semitic things. I’m unhappy with the fact that a congresswoman — in this case, a different congresswoman — can call our country, and our people, garbage. That’s what I’m unhappy with.”

Trump then turned to defending the people at his rally, who chanted “send her back!” after he viciously attacked Omar using misleading claims like the ones he made on Friday. (For instance, despite what Trump claimed in the Oval Office, none of the congresswomen in question have called America or its people “garbage.”)

“Those people in North Carolina, that stadium was packed,” Trump said. “It was a record crowd and I could’ve filled it 10 times, as you know. Those are incredible people, those are incredible patriots. But I’m unhappy when a congresswoman goes and says, ‘I’m going to be the president’s nightmare.’ She’s going to be the president’s nightmare. She’s lucky to be where she is, let me tell you. And the things she has said are a disgrace to our country.”

I may be shaking my head, but I am not surprised in the least bit.

Can someone who works for Trump read to him the First Amendment? Hint: speaking out against a corrupt president is not grounds for stripping someone's citizenship, deportation or locking her up. They are not "enemies of the people" either.

And, come to think of it, no one has to feel "lucky to be here" either. It's not a requirement.

A lot of Americans will vote for a racist, fascist misogynist. We know.

And here Trump says that two of his supporters who beat a homeless Latino man with a metal pole are just his "passionate followers" who want to make this country great again.

Donald Trump’s appalling reaction to a hate crime committed in his name - Vox

Two Boston men were charged Wednesday in the beating of a homeless Mexican man. The victim was allegedly sleeping outside a subway station when brothers Scott and Steve Leader rummaged through his things, then started beating him around the face and neck and hitting him with a metal pole. One witness heard the brothers laughing as they walked away.

Here's what police say Scott Leader told them to justify the assault: "Donald Trump was right — all these illegals need to be deported."

Here's what Donald Trump said when told about the alleged assault (according to the Boston Globe) at a Wednesday press conference in New Hampshire: "I haven't heard about that. It would be a shame, but I haven't heard about that."

Then the crowd buzzed, and Trump added: "I will say that people who are following me are very passionate. They love this country and they want this country to be great again. They are passionate. I will say that, and everybody here has reported it."

At least he’s consistent when it comes to walking back his walk backs.

Which he did for Charlottesville and returned to regular form in rather quick order.

Please share. I am clueless as to how he can win reelection at all, much less easily.

I know! I know! Because in every population exactly half the people are dumber than average.
Did I guess right?

You know he's using the 'Southern Strategy', right? It worked for Reagan, it worked for Richard Nixon and although it didn't work for Barry Goldwater, it was used.

Trump is using the strategy almost as though he's reading the textbook every day developed in the 50's by Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and Lee Atwater. I'm sure Stephen Miller and Sebastian Gorka are convincing him that it was a winning strategy in 2016 and will work for him again in 2020.

That’s what he said. Clueless. :lamo

I don't know. "Incredible" patriots seems to me to fit just fine. If they ever become credible patriots they'll deserve some respect.

The man's a scumbag. A racist scumbag.

Impeachment is too good for him. He should be indicted on campaign contributions fraud and locked up. It's what got Cohen in prison and Trump directed the deal.

The same amount are going to vote republlican no matter what. What makes the election is other people turnout. THE die hard right wingers have hate and fear motivating them to vote. Their numbers are not increasing. The problem is, peop-le didn't vote in the last election. That's why republicans fight so hard to purge registration roles, and make it as hard as possible to vote, and to disenfranchise people into not voting. The Hillary smear campaign also helped reduce the number of voters. Also probably didn't help people calling for landslide that may have kept voters home. They have better learned their lesson and get out adn vote next election, that's the difference.

The right knows this and are fearful of it, hence why they try the sell the bs that "illegals are voting" or other claims of voter fraud, even though its republican caught the most doing voter fraud

Apparently it's because so many americans are xenophobic racists who love authoritarians.

He should be indicted for inciting violence and treason. He is a semihuman piece of trash.

Not a bad strategy for a president to pursue if he believes it's 1980.

He didn’t incite violence. My must the left lie all the time? He didn’y Committed treason either! What he did was win the election.

The First Amendment works both ways; people are free to criticize the country or the government and people, including the President are free to criticize what they say.

Both-sidesing and false narratives are the weak foundation of the trumpublican party.

This racist, fascist, chickenhawk ****stain on our Nation has been bashing our USA 🇺🇸 his entire life. There’s not a Patriotic bone or bone-spur in his body.

But now, no one is allowed to criticize this insane abomination we have as a potus.

Oh come on now. Are you trying to say that you didn't think Trump was capable of gas lighting his own ghoulish base? He probably gas lights them more than he gas lights anybody else. "You guys over here did not hear what you thought you heard at my rally. You guys over here didn't hear what you thought you heard from the Oval Office yesterday. Oh and AOC called the country garbage."

Another lie, as usual.

I am equal parts convinced that Trump is trying to win reelection via that same path he took in 2016 (as absurd a notion as that might be) or that just as Charles Boyer tried to drive Ingrid Bergman numb and twitching in some corner by gas lighting her crazy in the movie GASLIGHT, Trump is trying to do the same thing to the country so that he can rob more rapidly while we all sit there numb and twitching.
