This Is What The Left Wants For Healthcare

That is a good one!

My favorite joke is: What do you get when you cross a penis with a potato? A dictator.

What do you get when you cross a gorilla with a computer?

A Harry Reasoner.

Just pray the illness away.

Greetings, azgreg. :2wave:

I just heard that Smartmouthwoman suffered a ruptured appendix on July 6, and she is slowly recuperating - she was told she is lucky to be here! She has always been very kind about sending best wishes to those who are ill and suffering, and I was hoping that people will now send lots of "Get Well" messages to her!

Local taxes in Alberta (Calgary) for a home worth approx $360 000 USD (I converted it) would be around $2250 USD. Alberta schools at least 10 years ago placed in the top 10 for international testing scores. But we still complain about taxes.

California Republicans starved and abused public schools with their voucher nonsense for twenty years, and now they're complaining that we're something like 41st in the nation. Yeah, wonder why. I think we will eventually fix that, but it astounds me that SO MANY of our individual public schools are top rated in the nation, despite the overall low ranking as a system.
There's a high school not even 500 yards from me that consistently places in the top fifteen schools in the country.

Your property taxes in Alberta are much lower than Los Angeles. A 360 thousand dollar home here would have taxes in the near $4000 range.
But then again, if 360 thousand bucks in Alberta can get you a three or four bedroom house with 2000 square feet that is even more impressive because I think you would only find a 2 BR 1300 SF home here in Whittier for that price.

BC is doing well overall but with very high housing prices that are on a decline to some policy changes regarding buying homes as an investment

Tell me what they changed about that.

If the ACA is overturned what plan do you favor?

He's on the plan where he just sits back and trolls everyone else's plan plan. He has nothing. Which is why he's busy trolling those who have something.

I scanned through the thread, I didn't see MOderate Right debating. Was this just silly right wing anti-Democrat propaganda? The second post... 1.4M Americans vs 60K Canadians go abroad...I would have thought that ended the thread.

It did end Moderate Right's participation in his own thread.

nothing ever ends a thread - especially not facts and logic

63,000 out of 37 million is 0.0017%

No one could possibly be this stupid, you have to be messing with me right?

To be fare he got the numbers backwards. 0.45% of Americans are leaving for medical procedures versus 0.17% of Canadians.

Speculation and Vacancy Tax - Province of British Columbia

The speculation and vacancy tax is a key measure in tackling the housing crisis in major urban centres in British Columbia, where home prices and rents have skyrocketed out of reach for many British Columbians.
The provincial government is taking action because people who live and work in B.C. deserve an affordable place to call home.
The speculation and vacancy tax is a part of government's 30-Point Plan to make housing more affordable for people in our province.
This new annual tax is designed to:
Target foreign and domestic speculators who own residences in B.C. but don’t pay taxes here
Turn empty homes into good housing for people
Raise revenue that will directly support affordable housing

The specific details are in the link

but here are some basics
For 2018, the tax rate is:
0.5% of the property’s assessed value for all properties subject to the tax
For 2019 and subsequent years, the tax rate is:
2% for foreign owners and satellite families
0.5% for Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada who are not members of a satellite family

The $360 000 USD would get you a 2000 sq foot home with a double front attached garage in an good neighborhood. Of course, we also do not have the weather that So Cal gets, nor being close to the ocean.

Calgary is one of the Economists top ten livable cities in the world on the bright side

Ah yes, this tired debunked guestimation of a study by the right wing conservative think tank the Fraiser Institute which has tirelessly worked towards the privatization and dismantling of Canadian singlepayer healthcare.

The way this 'study' works is it sends out a survey to surgeons/clinics which has a response rate in the low single digit %s, and FI then shamelessly and recklessly extrapolates from there; in otherwords, it's trash and would not meet any kind of academic standard:

YouTube

Methodology of Fraser Institute’s patient wait-time study called into question

https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/fraser-institute-wait-time-survey-critique-1.3867927 (yes, this is concerned with wait times, but the same ****ty methodology is used for this partisan trash 'study).

Even if we take its claims at face value, that's about 1.4% of all surgery patients averaged across the country, which works out to being an infinitesimally small 0.1729% of the population, with the majority of these surgeries being electives and otherwise non-critical; this is nearly 1 / 3rd the number of Americans that travel abroad to get healthcare (1.4 million, approximately 0.43%).

Obamacare must be spectacular.

So spectacular that ~2.5 times as many Americans, adjusting for population, are leaving their country to seek treatment elsewhere, and that's assuming the FI's partisan guestimations are accurate which they almost certainly are not; the actual number of Canadians going abroad for surgery is likely lower.

You never will. He doesn't have the tools for that job.
