Let's say I'm a US citizen. My political views are that I want the US to be just like Venezuela. Are my views considered "American" simply because I'm a citizen of America?

Let's say there is a U.S citizen who has views that brutal dictators are to be believed over American intelligence communities. Are their views considered "American" simply because they are American?

When have American liberals blindly believed intelligence agencies???

Yes. If you read the Constitution, the founders wanted us to have the freedom of opinion.

America is what it is. Amerigo Vespucci was a cartographer who made a map of the New World and his name was bastardized to represent the lands newly discovered from pole to pole.

So, a citizen of Venezuela has as much right to claiming to be an American as any citizen of the USA.

However, his citizenship will remain Venezuelan and not United States.

If a citizen of the United States wants our country to be more like Venezuela, that citizen's views would be considered to be insane or inane or simply just the party platform of the Socialist-Democrat Party.

"American" describes somebody from 2 different continents and the isthmus that connects them.

American liberals are made up of millions of people and many do believe in our intelligence agencies. For both sides, it just depends on what those agencies are saying.

What a ridiculous example (Venezuela). Perhaps China or perhaps Russia given that the type of governments there are totally different to ours but most of the people there are happy and support their government and that would be a valid example to put this OP up, but Venezuela? Who in their right minds wants to support and live in a nation where there is no food, no medicine, no money, are persecuted just for asking for the basics for living and even have no gas for their cars in one of the richest nations in the world of oil.

Even those that voted for Maduro and once supported him want him out.

Difficult to respond to such a post unless one is an idiot or crazy as it can get.

Think man. before you put up such a garbage post.

So which of those are American views???

Yes. Absolutely

Especially considering that the majority of Venezuela's problems stem from over a century of routine US interference. I'm sure many Venezuelans just want to be left alone to get on with their lives in peace.

When have American conservatives blindly believed dictators? Oh Trump and Trump supporters.

I wouldn’t consider views having a nationality so it’s moot question. You are American regardless of what your views are. You might be considered a “bad”, “dishonest” or even “treasonous” American depending on your views but you’d still be American (in fact, somewhat ironically, you’d have to be recognised as American for the last accusation to hold up :) ).

Rickeroo:

Why is what you believe or don't believe the yardstick for being "American"? Isn't an American an American by birth or naturalisation? Is ideological homogeneity and an ideological test for "American purity of thought" necessary in your vision of America? If someone wants to remake America in a way that is different from what you want, does that make them "unAmerican"?

If you're worried about what incompetent Latin American socialists did to Venezuela, then look at what incompetent American capitalists did to places like Detroit, Allentown and a hundred other places in America, by just doing their free-market thing and shoving Adam Smith's invisible hand up the arses of millions of hard-working American workers and small business persons.

You are not alone, so be prepared to share America with others who do not agree with you.

Cheers.

No offensive to either of you as I do agree

But it is funny to see 2(now 3) Canadians commenting on what it means to be American

Let’s say? You’re saying you want a dictatorship that has robbed the country (Venezuela) past economic collapse rather than one where leaders are elected by the people and it’s impossible for an individual to control the entire economy to their benefit.

That is exactly what the ego maniac tRump wants too. He thinks we should throw away nearly 250 years of rule under our Constitution so we can give dictatorship “a shot “. Well that’s your Constitutional right and you have 1/250,000,000th say in the matter.

I’ll use “my” 250 millionth say to vote not NO, but HELL NO!!!!!

Depending on how you define American, USA or continent(s) Canadians can be Americans

For me, common usage in North America

And that is American, means to be an American citizen, not a resident of North, South or Central America

Yes. That's what makes America the best country in the world for freedom of expression.

When have American liberals blindly believed intelligence agencies???

When have conservatives blindly believed intelligence agencies were remote-controlled by Obama to victimize conservatives' corrupt Pig in Chief?

Oh boy, we can do this all day.
