The Carl Tuckerson vs. Ilhan Omar feud

The feud between Carl Tuckerson and Ilhan Omar is heating up these days. Tucker Carlson had made a racially loaded attack on her live on air. Omar had responded by calling him a “racist fool” and rebuked Fox News and their advertisers for giving him "nightly platform for white supremacist rhetoric."

Carl Tuckerson has responded by blasting congresswoman Omar for not being a grateful colored woman for being allowed to immigrate to the US as a child from Somalia, and not knowing her place:

Omar has responded: “Not gonna lie, it’s kinda fun watching a racist fool like this weeping about my presence in Congress. No lies will stamp out my love for this country or my resolve to make our union more perfect. They will just have to get used to calling me congresswoman!”

Where do you stand on all this? Does the fact that she was allowed asylum in this country mean she should just be quiet and take racist attacks on her like someone who should know her place? Does criticizing our country and wanting to align its actions more with its stated ideals mean she hates our country? Did abolitionists who pointed out the hypocrisy of slave-holding while espousing the ideals of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and attempting to change it mean they hated the country and were out to destroy it?

There is absolutely nothing racist about what Tucker Carlson has said.

Don't expect everyone to be triggered by the fake propaganda the liberal media has created regarding this story.

The issue he has been talking about is immigrants who hate the United States. The US shouldn't be trying to get people who hate the US to move here.

Not good for the country.

I know, "Racist" is the only bleat the trained sheep have been taught to scream against the people they are told to hate....

Why would people who hate America move here? That right-wing talking point makes no sense.

Ask Omar.

The US rescued her and her family from a nightmare in Somalia and afforded her and her family all the benefits and opportunities this country has to offer. At 35, she's a member of the US Congress. As Tucker said, amazing story.

But after all that, Omar has made it clear she hates the US.

We don't need to be bringing in Immigrants who hate the country.

That is the singular point Carlson has made over two different days. It has nothing to do with country of origin, skin color, religion, etc..

Can you give me sources? Quotes? Anything to indicate she hates America?

The whole point of that lie (that she hates America) is to claim that no matter how "assimilated" an immigrant, they are to be feared and distrusted.

"For even a US Congressperson is really a terrorist! They're all terrorists and that's all they'll ever be."

It's a very racist narrative, and using a Congressperson to push it is pathetic.

During my parents' generation when they were growing up, a popular refrain for defending racist statements was "I'm just telling it like it is." Today, racists "ask the tough questions."

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

What's the racist part of this?

"Our country rescued Ilhan Omar from the single worst place on earth, we didn't do it to get rich, in fact it cost us money. We did it because we are kind people. How did Ilhan Omar respond to the remarkable gift we gave her? She scolded us and called us names. She showed us contempt. It's infuriating but more than that, it's also ominous.

Omar may be from another country but she learned young that crying racism pays. The bigger question is, who taught her that? She didn't arrive from a Kenyan refugee camp announcing people as bigots for a political campaign. She wasn't always a professional victim. That is learned behavior.

In some ways, the real villain in the Ilhan Omar story isn't Omar, it is a group of our fellow Americans. Our cultural gatekeepers who stoke the resentment of new arrivals and turn them into grievance mongers like Ilhan Omar. The left did that to her, and to us. Blame them first."

I'm not asking if it's true, or if Carlson is right or wrong. I'm asking what the racist part is.

^^^^
Nothing racist, then? OK.

It's not a lie. She's on record. When this lie from the liberal media was launched, I found the entire video of Carlson's original comments. There is not one reference to race, skin color or religion in his comments.

His whole point is about attitude towards the US. Period. You want to confirm you only embrace dog whistles? Claim otherwise. I'll post the complete video again.

Omar is on record, on video, stating what she thinks about the US. Nothing Carlson said about that is untrue. Not one word.

She is a citizen, so she can say anything she wants. But the US doesn't need more immigrants who hate the US. That's not in the countries best interests.

"Even a member of Congress is a terrorist! Guess we can't trust any foreigner! Assimilation is impossible!"

That's a racist narrative. That's a white nationalist narrative.

Are you suggesting Carlson said that? I didn't hear that in his monologue. Although I didn't memorize every word.

Please post a link.

LOL, that's funny. I explained exactly why what he did was classic white nationalism/bigotry and you couldn't bother to address it. So if you're going to accuse others of not wanting to debate, don't run away from actual arguments like a coward.

I explained again, one post up. Go for it!

Your explanation is crap. You want to find bigotry so you find it. His criticism of Omar had zero to do with her race. All you guys on the left do is cry racism when it exists only in your empty heads.

He's goes to great length to remind everyone of her ancestry. He goes to great length to describe all the wonderful things the US has done for her and her family. I mean, really, who could imagine anyone does not spend the rest of their life groveling?

But what happens? She becomes a member of Congress, just about as vetted as a person can be. But all is not well. What's this? She's a secret member of ISIS Antifa! A terrorist in our midst! OMG America hater!!11!!

Well, of course, this is not to paint a picture of immigrants. No. This is not to say that even the most assimilated and vetted of immigrant is untrustworthy. This is not to say that immigrants are ungrateful secret AlQ agents. No. Of course not.

I was expecting a link to the transcript so I could see where you got those statements you attributed to Carlson.

Should I assume you made them up?

I can read.

Omar is now the hedge against any suggestion that assimilation is possible. Anytime someone suggests that America is a melting pot, we'll get...

"But what about Omar, the America-hating ISIS Congressperson? Assimilation is impossible!"

That, of course, is not legitimate. But it's the hedge being built.

When in doubt, play the racism card, eh? She certainly hasn't been the paragon of diversity during her career. IMHO Tucker is more correct than wrong.

I don't think it's a leftist meme. "the left can't meme" is a meme. It refers to lefties being unable to make or use memes.

I know it's a meme. I browse /b/ all the time. The irony is that the right makes the worst memes.

The problem here is that many on the right conflate "hatred of America" with "criticizing American policies".

Exactly! I'm a white person who was born and raised in the United States and will likely die here, I have no desire to move to any other country for any reason. I love this country, but I also disagree with some of the policies and political actions the government has taken, past and present.

There aren't any politicians I completely agree with on everything and every American citizen has the right to freely speak out either in agreement or disagreement of what politicians in Washington are doing at any given time without being labeled as a hater. The actions taken in the White House affect each and every one of us. Unfortunately, with this administration, divisions and intolerance have escalated more than before with any other admin. Citizens are reacting, and rightly so.
