The announcement is going to be about the citizenship question. No doubt he's going to announce that he'll sign an executive order that it be added.

If this is about health care for immigrants, I need to beg the question one more time as I have dozens of times, why hasn't Congress moved forward on immigration reform. This has to be a bipartisan bill. Trump really needs to caucus with leaders of Central America and come up with something. Congress needs to get a bill on immigration reform passed that will satisfy both sides and that will actually work.

I'll be curious to see if the GOP leadership stays quiet on this one. It seems beyond silly to me.

They lost in SCOTUS in a way that's arguable, but I understand there's no time to win that fight and also redo the questionnaire for this census, and that it is already being produced without this question.

Yet another unnecessary Trump fight with no purpose.

Because the sad truth is that both sides cynically hold immigration hostage to use it as a bargaining chip and now, for a voting bloc to replace the black vote.

Totally true. However, we also need to say clearly, this will be a massive issue. IDK how he can executive order his way around the SCOTUS.

I'm no lawyer, let alone a Constitutional one, but I hope he finds a way to prevail. Legally, of course.

I hope he fails, because the constitution doesn't say anything about legal status. I want to see fair and open elections, not rule rigged elections designed for one political party to fix the game and constantly force the conversation to one side.

Why? What does putting the citizenship question gain for you?
The census is a head count not a citizen count.

Ah, yes, who stands to gain? That's the real question.
I believe that we Americans have a right to know how many non citizens are in our country and I believe with 100% certainty that the Democrats' cynical ploy to keep the question off the census is because they believe they will benefit by getting more representation in Congress.

I hope that his attempt to undercount the census fails. If he ignores the SCOTUS, the next administration should throw out the tainted census data and conduct a new one. Since the executive branch can apparently do whatever it wants now, this should be doable.

If the non-citizens do not participate then we won't know anyway. It's a lose lose for everyone. Gov't funds won't be properly dispersed based on needs and so on.

Trumps own people had made it clear why they wanted the question added so adding it is a proven 100% ploy by the GOP to suppress.

100% this. It's specifically a political stunt to sieze power and it's unconstitutional. The constitution doesn't mandate citizenship for the census at all.

It will be a disaster if Trump does this by EO.

If the branches are truly “co-equal”, then the next step is to rehear the new case.

I suggest SCOTUS get off their asses and rule. We have become accustomed to some judge stopping the legislation just because he can, and counting on the glaceral pace of the courts to effect the outcome. The last ruling required mind reading of the authors intent. That opens up every federal regulation change to challenge as to the underlying intent of the author. What can possibly go wrong?

Yeah, let's see what is in the news cycle that he may want to distract from?????

IMO, not a reason to not include the question. If funds aren't allocated, its the fault of the individuals who refuse to follow our laws and our rules and respect our processes.
If, say, California doesn't get the money to shoulder the burden of the illegals whom they invite with their sanctuary and free healthcare, they are 100% responsible for the situation they created.

how many undocumented are in the country?

do you know? does anyone?

lets see, can there be a better time to get an actual count? the federal government requires that everyone be counted...so lets COUNT them

that is what i want to get out of the question....nothing more....nothing less

are we at 6 million? 8 million? more? less?

can anyone even know what number we are at?

But that is the purpose of the census. They may as well not do it then.

The administration openly admitted it was doing this for political purposes. It's in black and white. The constitution demands a census of residents; Trump is skirting this with fiat language and we all know it.

The SCOTUS ruling basically said "You can lie to the american people about your intent on adding the question but you cannot lie to Us."

Still won't know for sure.

How can they advocate for medicare for all when they have no idea how many people are in the country illegally, thus no idea how much it will really cost.

Republicans don't want any immigration bill, they never have. Then they would lose that carrot they use to dupe their base into supporting them. When dems try to pass immigration reform, republicans block it. When republicans have power, they don't do anything (and blame democrats even though they have the numbers). Then when dems have power, they put forth absurd bills they know will never get passed, to once again dupe their idiot base into thinking they care. Same thing with abortion. How many bills did they try to pass when Obama was president? It was like over 50. THey knew would never make it passed senate, let alone Obama. Then when they had all three branches, nothing on abortion.

Their base are so dumb, its amazing they don't see the obvious ploy, republians don't even try to disguise it anymore

But that is the purpose of the census. They may as well not do it then.

It's part of the purpose, the primary purpose is to count residents for house representation, which is the true target. The administration openly admitted it.

Congress hasn’t done anything meaningful about immigration because there’s more money to be made by leaving our laws the mess that they are. Fundraising, lobbyists, big donors. Lots of cash to be had.

Agree. And I don't care which party is doing it. They both need to stop and we should move to automatic voter registration on 18th birth date, like they did the draft.
Make the first Tues in Nov a national holiday and call it a ****ing day already.

We're all already paying for the healthcare of these illegal immigrants. It's disingenuous to complain about it now. They go to the Dr, get seen, and skip the bill. This artificially inflates the cost on the rest of us.

Why oppose MFA? It will cost less, and save all of us more money, and our burden share for someone using the system would be reduced.

Why fight a more fiscally conservative financial outlook?

Single payer is the only way out of this healthcare mess.
