NY Democrat says he's supporting GOP unltil the Dems start acting like democrats again

I doubt that a lot of Democrats and left leaning independents are going to vote Tweetycult.

What does it say about the Democrats that Hikind is now an enemy because he had the fortitude to speak out against his party?

An honorable man can't vote with a party that has no honor.

I mean he’s been doing it for 20 years. I wouldn’t necessarily want someone in my party who endorsed against us in 5 straight presidential elections and voted down every major proposal we introduced. Can’t blame Democrats for being against it.

Hmm, well I didn't know he voted GOP most of the time.. LOL Still, a dem being vocal about dems lurching left is still a fun read. ;)

New York Dem Rebukes Schumer, Pledges to Vote GOP Until Party Returns to 'Sanity'

Pretty big rebuke of the leftward tilt the dimwits have taken of late.

He's not the only one who feels like Assemblyman Dov Hikind. The Dems need the Black vote... without it, they are doomed.

Few demographic groups are more faithful to the Democratic Party than black Americans. But one of the first black billionaires is suggesting that the party has moved so far to the left, it risks alienating them.

While Robert Johnson played a significant role in shaping black culture when it comes to entertainment, some politicos say he is out of touch about the politics of black Americans.

“The party in my opinion, for me personally, has moved too far to the left,” Johnson, the founder of the Black Entertainment Television cable network, told CNBC’s Hadley Gamble on Tuesday. “And for that reason, I don’t have a particular candidate [I’m supporting] in the party at this time.”

“I think at the end of the day, if a Democrat is going to beat Trump, then that person, he or she, will have to move to the center, and you can’t wait too long to do that,” the lifelong Democrat added.

Johnson’s belief that a centrist Democrat would have the best chance of beating President Trump is a common one, even among some black voters. Former vice president Joe Biden has been leading the Democratic field, including with black voters, for multiple reasons; among them is the belief that he has the best shot at defeating Trump.

Black Americans overwhelmingly back Democrats, even though most black Americans don’t consider themselves liberal. According to a 2018 Associated Press/NORC Center poll, more than a quarter (27 percent) of black voters identify as conservative, and 44 percent consider themselves moderate. Only 26 percent identify as liberal.

Certainly a rebuke, but as a person who endorsed Bush twice, McCain, Romney, and Trump as well as voting against every major democratic proposal I could think of when looking up his voting record, I’m not sure this carries any special weight as someone just turning against Democrats now.
Where did you read that he endorsed Trump? He didn't even vote for him.

Actually, his voting record says he voted with Democrats on most major proposals (minimum wage, gun control, marijuana legalization, establishment of New York health plan, paid family leave, strengthening labor laws) and even co-sponsored some of those major proposals himself.

Fair enough. I only could think of same sex marriage, civil unions, tax bills, and some environmental legislation when I was trying to look up dem proposals I knew came up in New York.

1. This is a year old.

2. This guy is hardly some loyal yet disillusioned Democrat. He's supported GWB, McCain and Romney in presidential elections, he's endorsed Republican governors for New York etc.

3. He's no longer an assemblyman. He retired in December 2018.

But you’re right. He’s only hovered around a 40-50% in his last few American Conservative Union scorecards. Higher than the most liberal Republican, but not the most conservative Democrat.

It looks like he did support him, but unendorsed him after the Billy Bush tape. Certainly supports him now though.

On the contrary, I don't see any evidence that he supported or endorsed him even before Billy Bush tape. This is going back to September:

He stressed that he cannot yet endorse Trump because of the candidate’s divisive statements...

"There’s nothing to cheer about with regard to Trump because of so many things he’s said, so many things he’s done,” Hikind said. “Donald Trump is the kind of guy, I don’t know what he’s going to say tomorrow, I don’t know what he’s going to say next week, I don’t know what he’s going to say two weeks from now that may disqualify him.”

I stand corrected. Guess this shows the perils of just trusting Wikipedia.

Dov Hikind - Wikipedia

Hikind endorsed Michael Bloomberg the first two times he ran for mayor of New York City, then switched his endorsement to the challenger Bill Thompson in the 2009 election.[3] Hikind had broken ranks with his party before, most notably in his endorsement of Republican candidates George Pataki for governor in 1994, George W. Bush, John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Donald Trump for president.
