The interview was contentious at first, the sources added, but investigators ultimately found Steele’s testimony credible and even surprising. The takeaway has irked some U.S. officials interviewed as part of the probe — they argue that it shouldn’t have taken a foreign national to convince the inspector general that the FBI acted properly in 2016. Steele’s American lawyer was present for the conversation.

I speculated two months ago that Barr's appointment of Durham to conduct an additional review was rooted in him knowing the IG was going nowhere with the deep state theories, and my prediction is looking good.

Of course you were right. It was only to keep the notion alive in the media and only the right-wing media seems to have bothered to try with any regularity. Even there it's mostly a sidebar. It's going nowhere.

One must of course, over and over again, point out that the Russia investigation was not solely based on the Steele Dossier.

Wait. Hold on. Trump Fan Nation has been saying that the Horowitz investigation was going to result in all of these bad people going to jail or even worse. Strzok would be hung on the village square. Comey would be hanged, drawn and quartered. McCabe was going to be bunking with some 387 pound inmate named Big Bob.

This isn't at all what I was told to expect.

Two anonymous sources. This is the SOS the entire narrative has been built on. That is not enough to hang you hat on, unless you are in the TDS choir.

Conspiracy theories, and the brains that concoct them....are a lot like cockroaches.

They do not die easily.

This will not dissuade many (or any) Trump conspiracy theorists who subscribe to the whole fake "illegal spying on the Trump campaign" narrative.

Remember, these are the same people who made Pizzagate....and Death Panels....and Birtherism....and Fast and Furious....and Jade Helm....and IRS-gate....into top-of-the-fold headlines and lead-stories on every news channel in the country.

This won't die until a new fake-@ss conspiracy theory has been hatched to replace it.

From the source material, buried among many paragraphs of filler and background to make this piece of gossip appear more legit, is this:

"One of the two sources said Horowitz’s investigators appear to have found Steele’s information sufficiently credible to have to extend the investigation. Its completion date is now unclear."


ONE "source" "appears" to have...

And there's this:

"Horowitz’s office in Washington declined to comment.

A spokesman for Orbis Business Intelligence, Steele’s London investigations firm, declined to comment."

Yippee, an unsourced, unchecked and uncorroborated by ANYONE piece of gossip not fit for Page Six or a tween's personal blog.
 
When the IG files his report to Barr, regardless of what it says, Barr, like with the Mueller report, will get ahead of the story by going on the news with a summary that damns the campaign investigation. He could then fire a person or two because he needs no reason to fire anyone. Piling up points towards SC nomination.

The investigation isn't over. In fact, after the Steele interview, it was extended. That extension wasn't a result of Steele's testimony exonerating the agents in question.

But it also must be pointed out that, remove the dossier from the equation, and there is no reason to think the Trump campaign conspired with Russia.
