I find it interesting how some scoff at the use of the Pledge. So how do you show support for the US?
Red Skelton said it well many years ago.
No, the Pledge of Allegiance has been a very good thing for a long time among patriotic Americans.
Really?
I feel very patriotic to a country that now forces people to pay a Fed income tax while 44%(Last count) do not have to pay?
You were saying?
If you don't like paying federal income taxes then don't vote democrat in 2020. Democrats cannot wait for Trump to be out of their way so they can resume out of control taxation and spending.

But the Pledge says specifically the flag and the government, not our people nor our values, among them freedom and self-determination.

To me it has
All this talk of some schools that do not recite it means nothing anyway .
Look around you? Look at our ignorant citizenry?
Most citizens don't even know what kind of Government we have.
What say you?
One nice thing about the US. You are free to leave.
I am sure most kids in school just said it to avoid detention
No pledge. the flag is a racist symbol, praising the efforts of our military is warmongering, America was never great....you guys ever thought about a one way ticket to Venezuela? I know you'd like it way better down there.
Who would you pledge allegiance to, Che Guevara?
No, they say it because it just the norm and repetitive
Why pledge anyway? What difference does it make to anything? It's just words and is about as pointless as praying.

Before the famous crossing of the Delaware on the way to victory at Trenton in late 1776, General George Washington ordered officers to read Paine's The American Crisis to the Continental Army. Contained in that pamphlet were Paine's famous words, "These are the times that try mens souls."
I was always threatened with detention, but I was also in a rural conservative area.
Personally, I had always thought of it as creepy. Why am I basically praying to a piece of cloth? Real love of the country is a conceptual thing.
I was always threatened with detention,
They can threaten you all they want, can they really force you?
I think not

It was a rural georgia town, they did it to kids all the time.
I am aware of court rulings, and the school staff probably was too, but that was the culture.
As a kid, I certainly wasn't think about contacting the ACLU (even though my parents probably wouldn't have had a problem with it, now that I think about it)
So, to some it up, it was just a threat?
Word mean something Snakestretch . When they are the correct words(wink)
Like these words
Why pledge anyway? What difference does it make to anything? It's just words and is about as pointless as praying.
Don't you people sing "God save the Queen" occasionally? I hear it's the same tune as "My Country tis of Thee".
Yes, that's our national anthem. It isn't pledging allegiance to anyone or anything.
Britain National Anthem Lyrics
So you feel no allegiance to the UK? Ever wanted to burn the Union Jack?
No, why should I feel any allegiance because of an accident of geography and birth? I didn't choose to be born here. Bits of symbolic coloured cloth are meaningless to me. My only allegiance is to family and friends.
