The grim reality of the migration crisis unfolding on America’s southern border has been captured in a series of images showing the lifeless bodies of a Salvadoran father and his daughter who drowned as they attempted to cross the Rio Grande into Texas.

The photographs, taken on Monday, show Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez, 26, and his daughter Valeria, lying face down in shallow water. The 23-month-old toddler’s arm is draped around her father’s neck, suggesting that she was clinging to him in her final moments.

Are you entirely sure you understand the structure of your "pwn the libtards" move in creating this thread?

You find a tragic article about a toddler who died clinging to her father. You attempt to score political points by accusing hypothetical "leftist" of attempting to score political points by blaming Trump in the future. You do not see the flaws in this display of basic inhumanity.

Clue:
illegal or not, those are people.

Clue 2:
if displays of inhumanity win Trump votes, well....

...well try to honestly work that out for yourself what that means, tonight as you lie in bed. Not here, because here you will try to score further Internets Points by declaring my response proof that you were right about something. (aka, '[look at the loser libtard talking about feeewings]'). But really, alone and in the dark, think about why this is how you chose to react to that story and what that says

Remember: think about your motive, later.

One question I'm curious about. Why do you have the surname of a Russian lawyer and political activist on your signature?

Alexei Navalny
Алексей Навальный

Yes because as everyone else knows, making this about "thuh libtards" is what's most important.

Democrats won in 2018 on Issues, not Insults.

There are obvious parallels with Alan Kurdi, the Syrian kiddie washed up on a Mediterranean beach. His death changed an appalling situation for the better. For a while, at least.

[FONT=&quot]"Oscar Alberto Martinez Ramirez, frustrated because the family from El Salvador was unable to present themselves to US authorities and request asylum, swam across the river on Sunday with his daughter, Valeria."
RIP.

I was patiently waiting for someone to politicize this photo one way or another. The father applied for amnesty at the border as he should have done. He was rejected and returned into Mexico where he knew no one, had no relatives or friends and faced danger from cartels. He was desperate enough to risk both his life and that of his 2 year old child. Doesn't that alone say it all?

I want to point out something that most people have seen when a congressmen or congresswoman happens to be interviewed live in the National Statuary Hall in the Capital. I've been in the Statuary Hall and it's pretty awesome. But I have noticed that they are nearly always in front of the black marble statue which I happen to know it's Will Rogers. It's interesting as to how a statue of Will Rogers even earned a place in such among such distinguished senators and presidents.

Will Rogers regularly commented on current events and politics and he became a confidant of many of Washington’s most powerful politicians. Representatives eulogized Rogers on the House Floor after receiving word of his death. “The world well knows Will Rogers had many outstanding and lovable attainments,” noted Representative Jed Johnson of Oklahoma. “But probably the most outstanding of all was his love for humanity . . . He knew life. He was a friend of man of all walks of life. He was broad-minded, generous, and, undoubtedly, the most beloved citizen in all the world.” So that's why a black marble statue of Will Rogers is a prominent figure in Statuary Hall.

There's a specific quote of Will Rogers that we should all take some wisdom from in these times.

It's ludicrous to blame trump or even his immigration policy for this. The US does not let everyone in, it cannot, so they try and sneak in and take risks to do so: they drown in the river or die in the desert; it's a sad state of affairs but in itself nothing new.

But it does highlight the cruelty of the Trumpies in treating these people as less than human, common criminals or those who don;t deserve some sympathy or a bar of soap once they're apprehended. They are unfortunate, they have a plight, and do not need to be demonized or dehumanized in order to soothe right-wing consciences or stroke their [almost entirely unearned] macho self-image.

I, for one, will not justify this with any comment. I respect life -- all life, too much to disrespect this man and his daughter.

The fault is found at the root of the problem, refugees fleeing for their lives and looking for some kind of life.

Whether we want to or not, we need a United Nations ‘Marshall Plan’ to rebuild and resurrect these countries, after instituting Marshall Law.

And you could only find a Russian that symbolizes that for you?

What is wrong with using a Russian that fights for such honorable things?

No one wants to "demonize" them, we simply want to deport them immediately and without fanfare right back across the border every time they try to enter illegally.

Do not pass go, do not go to jail, do NOT collect $200 (i.e. catch and release, allow them to sup on the U.S. benefits system, reward them for the effort and thereby encourage MORE illegal crossings.)

Right back across. Every. Single. Time.

That's all. :coffeepap:

I don’t really understand why major news media outlets feel the need to blast this horrific imagery all over the front pages.

Or maybe I do understand. I don’t agree with it.

So why don’t you Hildebeasties gasp in horror when an illegal kills an American? Then we get the stupid question “ would they be any less dead than if they were killed by an American?”

That's not what we've seen, CA. What we've seen is a Republican base who has talked about everything but the horrible conditions that migrants have been enduring.

Whether they are crossing the border legally is of absolutely zero relevance to this point. We would not even allow convicted murderers treated this way.

Makes you wonder how "pro-life" they are.

Human life has a value in the republican administration, the value is $750 a day. Trump places value on everything in monetary terms.

There are risks in breaking the law. They should have sought asylum.
How many North African migrants drowned trying to reach Europe?

That was my suggestion days ago on one of these threads. It's what the US should do rather than waste billions of tax dollars incarcerating immigrants, fix the problem from where it starts.

Because we need to see it. Just like we needed to see that naked girl running from her napalmed village, and Walter Scott being shot in the back by a police officer, and Gerri Santo who died after an unsafe abortion. We need to see that these horrors are real.

Using a tragedy to promote a partisan agenda is disgusting and despicable. Shame on you.
