The Democratic Party primary election debate thread

Too many on the stage at once. We won't get much more than sound bites.

They really shouldn't have more than 3 on at a time.

I wish they had at least one more night. The numbers are so high that I share your concern.

I'm going to guess that a few of them will drop out relatively soon, and by the primary season next year that half of them will be gone. And that's a good thing. The real contenders will have their voices heard better. This crowd is just too large.

I doubt much happens other than hate on Trump, and hate on the current front runner Biden.

Well... other than a promise of a laundry list of things paid by the wealthy, i.e. “free” for them, to rally that base just as Sanders did for the 2016 run.

Yup. It's kind of funny to watch the MSM go after Biden, not because he is the front runner, but because the MSM's agenda is further to the left. Biden has to go.

I'm most looking forward to Hickenlooper on night 2, and hoping he has some breakout moments. I'm also going to pay close attention to Bennet and Buttigieg.

On night 1 I'll be watching Ryan and Delaney and hoping they do well.

I won't be watching but will rely on the sound bites coming out. I'm also interested in Hickenlooper and a few others who are to the right of Biden. I hope they do well but Surey here wants these people to bleed. If a moderate breaks out and looks like a real possibility then I'll start paying more attention. Not likely to happen.

I don't think the libs that run NBC want Biden. They made a big deal of the "working with dixiecrats" statement.
I think one of the socialists would be more to.there liking.

Yup. Most of the MSM are attacking Biden, not because he is the front runner but because they have an agenda more to the left of Biden and will further that agenda anyway possible.

You may want to check out Gov. Bullock holding a town hall in your state on night two.

Other than that, these debates should have started no earlier than August, when Congress is out of session.

Sure.

The evidence is to the contrary per his recent, dangerous game of chicken.

Also, independents and 'moderates' generally don't care for his idiotic handling of Iran, and saber rattling.

The left's evidence has always been nothing but worthless goo.

Many seem solidly convinced that Trump is the boogie man and will therefore vote for whoever the DNC offers up. If the DNC falls for that line of thinking then even Comrade Bernie, Mayor Alfred E. Newman or Joe "the gaffer" Biden stands a decent chance of getting the DNC nod and we the sheeple get 4 more years of Trump on an even bigger ego trip.

It's amazing how blind they are to this.

Or, it's possible Iran could do something stupid.

They, like the Saudi's, constantly do so but Trump can simply blow it off (react "proportionally", let him tell you) in order to stay in power. It's not like our NATO allies would demand Trump start a new ME war to join us in. Of course, the Chinese or Russians would love to see us (and our allies) spend loads of treasure on a new endless chapter of ME "nation building" while they enrich themselves coming to the aid of our oil rich "victims".

2/3 of the primaries and caucuses will be over by the end of March. That locked it up early for trump since most gop Ps/Cs are winner take all and winner take most delegates.

Since all DEM Ps/Cs have a proportional allotment, I’m seeing a contested convention in Milwaukee. We may also see a repeat of Chicago 1968, with or without the violence, with so much animus remaining in the party.

But I don't know if that would change much if we just elected different Republicans and Democrats. That's the problem, the system only offers us those two choices.

Yep, those sent from the party for a bigger federal government and those sent from the party for a huge federal government. Heads - they win more power, tails - you lose more power.

Remember the Kasich/Hickenlooper rumors a while back? Would like to see that ticket. I'm also interested in Delaney. He needs to make an impact now or there's zero chance.

Oh hell yes, and I wish they had come to fruition! I'm a fan of Hickenlooper's, and Kasich has always been one of my favorites.

Delaney has impressed me so far, which is why I'm anxious to see him in this setting. He needs to emerge, and I hope this helps him do it.

Hickenlooper should be running for the Senate in Colorado. That primary race is a mess for Democrats, and should help re-elect a Senator that Democrats were hoping to beat to swing the Senate.

I agree with you here!

But I still am glad he's running for POTUS.

I have a feeling he isn't going to get any traction this week and will be out of the race soon enough. He can then run for the senate if he so wishes.

I like Delaney. It's funny that he's been in the race longer than anybody but is probably the least known. Hopefully he changes that this week.

His filing deadline for the Senate is March 9th. Not sure if he can run for both, or how smart that is. He’s been on the ground pretty heavy in IA and NH. He’s already qualified for the July debates.

Bullock’s been busy governing a state trump won by 20 points, and is termed out as governor after two terms in Montana. I’ll guess he’s your type of Democrat, understanding Western issues and more of a mod/con DEM like me.

I've reached out to his campaign to volunteer here in NH, assuming he stays in, which he may not.

I hope he does get traction. I like the guy a lot.

Most swing Americans expect issues not insults towards trump when he’ll be out of the country during the debates. If trump is smart, he’ll let his people insult the Democrats.

Democrats appear to have forgotten how they won in 2018. A total of 31 new Democratic House members had their CDs won by trump. This is the age of DAM — Digital Analytics Metrics.

The entire point of the debates is precisely to help filter out the weak candidates so the strongest Democrats persevere and go on to face the GOP.

Filter out the weak candidates....

Once all that filtering is done, I think voters are going to need more than this....

My wife volunteered for John Kerry's campaign. I don't recall the details but the volunteers were treated crappily, so she said **** it and left.

They smell blood in the water and seem intent on paddling as far left and as fast as they can.

This will be their folly. Which reminds me to cross Gillibrand off the list right after de Blasio.

The least loony among that bunch (which I have heard speak lately) seem to be Yang and Klobuchar, yet I must admit that I have not heard them all speak lately. Perhaps some of them will impress me more (one way or the other) during the upcoming debates. Gillibrand tops Biden on their position flip-flop moves thus would more likely wilt under pressure to make a reasoned decision. In all of Biden's (40+?) years in politics I can't think of one brilliant thing he ever did or said, yet recall quite a few gaffes.

Gillibrand's flip-flop on guns reveals her for what she is, a shameless opportunist. (And I don't buy her "conversion" story.)

Her conversion was from representing a red congressional district to representing a blue state. Not a problem for a legislator - representing their voters, after all, is their job. As POTUS one must be trusted to decide what is best for the entire nation not just what would likely get them the most votes at the moment.
