As I've brilliantly and famous stated on here many times, the familiar death spiral goes something like.

Because of capitalism , wealth gets created. Then Democrats pounce and promise to redistribute form the wealth creators to the takers.

The foundations for a successful society become eroded.
The new generation raised in socialism has no incentives to work.

It's happening before our eyes in California.

If we elect a Democrats it will happen nationally .Socialism Didn’t Work In Sweden, And It Won’t Work In America

"...weden stood as the world’s fourth wealthiest country nearly five decades ago. Its taxes were lower than most western countries, including the United States. The economy was deregulated, and public spending was hardly above 10 percent gross domestic product (GDP).

But Sweden was soon teetering on the brink of collapse from its experiment with socialism."

Free markets and small government made Sweden rich,” said Swedish economist and Cato Institute fellow Johan Norberg. “The experiment with socialism crashed us.”

Democratic socialism is working splendidly in the Scandinavian countries.

Sweden is always the country the left uses as an example that socialism works. The last few years Sweden has been moving right because they recognized it can't be sustained.

All modern developed economies of the world today have some kind of hybrid mixed economy. It's a delicate dynamic balance that must always be reexamined and revisited.

The Soviets gave up on pure communism by the 1980s. But the US gave up on pure free markets in the late 19th century/early 20th century, the gilded age- where the ever-increasing free market demand for exploitation of child labor was becoming unacceptable, and monopolies were forming, and the increasing disparities between the extremes of wealth and poverty were proving to be socially/economically unsustainable.

People who think pure free market capitalism works are as ignorant of history as those who still advocate for Soviet style communism. Both systems have been tried extensively and have proven to be failed experiments. Modern economies are not all some kind of hybrid system because their economists are stupid.

Really? can you tell us where free market capitalism has proven to be a failed experiment?

Every single major nation that has a high quality of life has followed the same basic economic strategy: a mix of capitalism with socialism. That's true with Sweden, obviously, but also with the US. We have long had major socialistic aspects to our economy, including child labor laws, minimum wages, overtime laws, Social Security, medicare, government-run primary education, public universities, government price stabilization in various markets, tight government oversight of traditional banking, some government oversight of securities, etc. Pure socialism has never worked (or even been tried), and the same is true of pure capitalism.

As for the idea of Sweden teetering on the brink of collapse: in many ways, they're doing better than the US. Their people live longer, healthier lives, with less violence, and a lot more free time, as well as less substance abuse and suicide. They also have about a third the public-debt/GDP ratio of the US.

First point us to a country that has this.

The United States in the Gilded Age:

Child labor was only getting worse, not better, when the free market was left alone. It only got better with decent laws against it were passed.

Ditto for monopolies.

Every country in Europe has huge quality of life, their politician work not for the companies or the rich, but for the people, they have healthcare, great and affordable mass transit, lots of paid vacation time and maternity/paternity leave, are paid livable wages, and have some of the highest quality of life.

meanwhile, the good old US with its capitalisms has the highest wealth disparity, insane rates of poverty, a horrible healthcare system that profits off of people's lives, and health, the leader in medical induced bankruptcy, one of the highest rates of imprisonment, have majority of its people living paycheck to paycheck with absolutely no savings or ability to save, high rates of children starving, the list of negatives go on and on.

What was that about Europe again?

oh, that's right, just another ignorant right winger spewing dumb talking points without any actual facts.

It failed miserably here in the U.S. We had something called the Great Depression.

Capitalism always come first. Socialism follows
No nation has become prosperous *because* of socialism.

Everybody knows there's a mix. The whole point of the article is that Dems want to push the US ( AWY) further to socialism where Sweden has already tried that and is now seeing what a mistake that was.

We seemed to have bounced back from that quite nicely. ( thank you capitalism!)
Try again.

Sure. Because it has gone way too far over the other direction. It's always a balancing act.

But I am glad you are realizing that the "free market is the answer to everything", or "any socialist policy is a slippery slope to Soviet style communism" slogans are not useful or practical slogans in the real world. The real world is a little more complicated.

Oh sure, I'll take a bunch of unquantified statements from a Cato institute asshole at face value. Sweden must be a hellhole, much worse than the US.

Well, first, I just have to point out that it's hilarious to see the extent to which you insecure, fake-news righties will go to self-congratulate. Of course, as many here have repeatedly and "brilliantly" noted, almost every thread you start ends with your OP being thoroughly debunked. This one will be no different.

Next CORRECTION: Sweden is NOT a SOCIALIST country. It NEVER has been. Sweden's economy is a mixed capitalist-socialist economy....as is EVERY country in the EU....as are the US, Canada and Mexico.

So, with those basic FACTS laid out...there is really nothing else to say about the OP, other than to note it's breath-taking degree of ignorance.

3x the debt of Texas

Take away Texas' oil and they would be no different than AL or MS. They are like Saudi Arabia- just because they sit on a lot of oil doesn't mean they have good policies.

Thank FDR and the New Deal (socialist policies).

Smart countries with intellectual capital and good economic policies (Japan, UK, Sweden, etc...).

Massachussetts and California don't have oil. They are doing better than TX with all its oil.

"Kalifornia" has a bigger economy than all the red states put together.

Try again.

Don't be shy, let's take it a bit further.

If the state –with its 39.5 million people – was an independent country, it would have the fifth largest economy in the world, according to new federal figured released on Friday – just surpassing the United Kingdom, which has a population of 65.6 million.

California’s economy of $2.7 trillion sits behind the United States, China, Japan and Germany.

California'''s Economy Is 5th Biggest in the World, Ahead of the UK | Fortune

Cultist aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer.
