Yes, I do. Because the Chinese were certainly poor and oppressed and the crime rate of Chinese Americans is very low.
Urban black crime is not a legacy of slavery. Thomas Sowell wrote an essay about this topic called “black rednecks and white liberals” where he traces the origin of black ghetto culture to the Scotch Irish redneck culture (which is also the basis for the culture of poor “white trash” southerners who similarily suffer many ills and poverty for it) of apocalyptic religious rhetoric, promiscuity, single parenthood, unrefined speech and pride in lack of education, in addition the culture is an honor culture where violence is expected for slights.
The black community was ditching this culture until the 1960s when along with the civil rights movement, academics became predominantly leftist and wanted to emphasize teaching “authentic culture” and the philosophy that modern educational methods were racist came in to play, causing a reversion to the redneck culture.
It’s a fascinating read. But the takeaway is clear, contemporary social issues are not related to past injustices, but cultural behavior, involving out of wedlock birth, drug use, violence, and lack of education.
The leftist response, oh let’s encourage single motherhood with more welfare, let’s release black criminals back into to black neighborhoods and give them a pass on drug laws (drug usage and crime is highly related, there’s no such thing as a “non violent drug crime) not frisk them for illegal guns, and make no effort to put people in prison, because there’s this imaginary school to prison pipeline or some nonsense like that, and let’s create economic policy like high taxes and excessive minimum wages that reduce employment opportunities, and let’s throw them in public schools with union teachers who’ve probably been shuffled there due to other complaints in wealthier districts.
