Gender Stereotypes Banned in British Advertising

You mean a government that bans gay marriage or tries to decide for people when they can get an abortion?

I wish conservatives were consistent about government overreach.

you really don't follow what I have posted on this board for over a decade-do you.

I really believe in free choice-abortion, who you marry, what sort of firearms you can own, what you do with the money you earn after you die, etc.

You can shape the world, but it will also shape you.

that sounds like a fortune cookie saying, but it has nothing to do with the disease of an overly paternalistic government and the problems that illness causes

Granted, but I still agree, no more gender roles, they are too inhibitive and I'm not opposed to government measures.

how so-how are you inhibited by "gender roles". My wife breast fed our son-Sorry that is a gender role for which she was far more qualified than I was.

It is the purpose of government to move society in the direction that will be most beneficial for it's population. In the modern age of technology, rigid gender roles are no longer particularly useful, instead being restrictive and counterproductive. Therefore, government has a legitimate interested in banning media which seeks to reinforce or propagate said antiquated gender roles.

No, the government has no such interest. In fact there is no benefit to discouraging gender roles since most people of both sexes are perfectly happy with them, it’s the malcontented minority who has a problem

My apologies. I thought you had the same hypocritical position on the role of government that most conservatives have.

nope-I have always supported keeping most abortions safe and legally. I have always supported consenting adults being able to love and marry whom they want or serving the military.

Did you even try to breast feed your son, or just accept the gender role you had assigned at birth?

/sarcasm in case a gender studies major thinks I'm serious

I felt like a boob cuz I had none!

It's despicable that in this day and age, leftists are so ignorant that they haven't realized that most conservatives are live and let live freedom loving liberals at heart.
We are not ALL social conservatives. Most of us would like nothing more than if the big noses of government shove it. So why don't the leftwing "freedom loving libs" take their own advice? Ha Ha

Rigid gender roles act to inhibit individuals from seeking positions outside of those traditionally seen as matching their gender. This is not beneficial for a society which seeks to make maximum use of it's available talent, whatever gender said talent happens to be. Therefore, it is a legitimate government interest to act against these gender roles, by targeting the media which acts to reinforce them.

The governments purpose isn't to maximize use of talent. Where do you get that from?

That is an individuals decission and its also a subjective term specific to the individual. By the standard you just laid out the government would have the authority to outlaw recreational sex or any other countless things it deems not to meet the arbitrary standard of "maximum use of talent"

What about satire? Do you support banning all forms of that as well?
