House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday ruled out a congressional censure of President Trump, a move some lawmakers have suggested as a less divisive alternative to launching impeachment proceedings.

“No. I think censure is just a way out,” Pelosi told reporters. “If you’re going to go, you’ve got to go. In other words, if the goods are there, you must impeach, and censure is nice, but it is not commensurate with the violations of the Constitution, should we decide that’s the way to go.”

She added that a censure of Trump would be “a day at the beach for the president, or at his golf club, or wherever he goes.”

I see a huge difference in joking on someones vanity, something within a person's control, and making racial remarks on someones ethnical makeup, something out of their control.

Impeachment would be a poor strategy. Hyper partisanship being what it is, the Senate won't vote to impeach regardless of what facts come to light. Trump will then strut around telling the world how he was vindicated and how the Democrats were just conducting a witch hunt. Impeachment could backfire and make it more difficult to remove Trump in 2020.

Pelosi has been in politics for a long time. She knows far more about effective political strategy than the Democrats beating the drums for impeachment.

Pelosi and the dem leadership arent pursuing anything against Trump for two simple reasons: 1) they dont have the goods 2) and they dont have the votes

1. There is evidence Trump conspired to violate campaign finance laws.
2. There is evidence Trump obstructed a federal investigation and used his powers as president to spread lies to the American people.
3. Trump is using frivolous lawsuits and claims of executive privilege to prevent witness testimony and documents from going to the hill - something Clinton and Nixon were impeached for.
4. Trump subverted the will of the congress with a bogus national emergency to obtain funds he was denied.
5. Trump has told Homeland Security officials to defy court orders.

There's a public record of this presidents lawlessness. That you think something can't be objective simply because you have the ability to believe something different in spite of evidence, doesn't change the reality of what the facts are.

So, then why ask for Mueller, McGahn, Hicks, and conduct investigations if even censure is off the table? They are pointless.

Look, if Pelosi was making policy issues the message of the Democratic party, you'd have a point. But what she actually does is accuse the president of being a criminal, without having the balls to put her money where her mouth is and make a case for it. That's not leadership, that's wasteful political theater, and that actually does help support Trump's narrative that the Democrats simply want to harass him.

The orange menace is going to claim vindication no matter what - he already has.

Yes, but impeachment still leads to him holding the office. The votes to remove him simply don't exist in the Senate.

Pelosi literally cannot afford to impeach. If she does, then there will be debate and Republicans get to ask questions. For example, the Mueller report exonerates Trump on collusion. When did the team realize this? Why did they not terminate the investigation immediately? Who chose the team, which included a major Clinton backer and donor, Andrew Wiessmann? Why were all ties to the DNC and the Clinton campaign ignored? And so on. Even if there are valid reasons, Pelosi knows that these questions will hurt her position more than help it. That's if there are valid reasons. What if there are no valid reasons?

All this is in the House where the Democrats have a majority. The Senate, if it gets that far, will be much worse.

When the guy who actually wrote the Mueller report refuses to testify to his own findings, and you are left to trot out an 80 year old convicted felon from the Nixon Watergate hearings who isn't even a fact witness, you got nothing.

Trying to push an Impeachment without a single criminal recommendation from the Attorney General or DOJ with the author of the report refusing to testify would only help with the re-election of Trump. If they don't stop this noise and start moving to provide some wins for the party, what are they going to run on in 2020. If its going to be the economy of Obama or a hate Trump agenda, it won't work.

Then from this point going forward, all the things Trump did in office can no longer result in a political indictment from the House, as the precedent has now been set.

Assuming another president does what Trump did and you do have the votes for removal, Pelosi's precedent will be used as political cover.
