If you weren't talking about politics on this forum, watching fake news, catching up on the latest left-wing propaganda, or in a whinge-fest about DJT, what would you be doing? Really.

I get outside and enjoy the Kalifornia sun.
Listen to Alexa play music.
Garden.
Have a cocktail or two, maybe three, while doing the above.
Cook some fabulous meals. And get the blender going for amazing cocktails, or two. Maybe three.
Read a good book.

And you?

:popcorn2: (No real way for this to end well.)

The Left has for a long time I think much more idealized Free Time for individuals to cultivate themselves.

The saving of labour time [is] equal to an increase of free time, i.e. time for the full development of the individual, which in turn reacts back upon the productive power of labour as itself the greatest productive power. From the standpoint of the direct production process it can be regarded as the production of fixed capital, this fixed capital being man himself. It goes without saying, by the way, that direct labour time itself cannot remain in the abstract antithesis to free time in which it appears from the perspective of bourgeois economy… Free time – which is both idle time and time for higher activity – has naturally transformed its possessor into a different subject, and he then enters into the direct production process as this different subject. This process is then both discipline, as regards the human being in the process of becoming; and, at the same time, practice [Ausübung], experimental science, materially creative and objectifying science, as regards the human being who has become, in whose head exists the accumulated knowledge of society.”
(Karl Marx, Grundrisse, Notebook VII)

Politics is one of many of my interests, albeit far more important than it ever was before thanks to the direction we are headed.

According to science, we have little time to address our impact on the environment, so I don't intend to be one of those who merely dilly dallied on the sidelines while our planet was being destroyed. Sadly, even the most creative entrepreneur could not solve this on their own, political power is necessary.

I care about those things because I have a young family, and I think this world is full of stuff that I would like to do. I'm a highly trained singer, I act when I get the time to, I am into hiking and mountaineering which is afforded by where I live, and get to travel for free since my wife works for an airline. I primarily just read non-fiction, as I have heavy interests in psychology, philosophy, politics, history, and biology. In order not to annoy my wife, I have to find outlets for discussing ideas, and I periodically shut it down completely and maybe have a fresh start somewhere else.

All things in moderation though. Leftists and Right Wingers should balance their personal lives and seek out to maximize their potential as a human being with their free time.

If I wasn't talking politics, I'd probably be plotting and scheming how to buy a big ass beach house on the Chesapeake Bay with all my tax savings.

And as soon as I got me a fine fishing pole,...adios.

Now, yer talkin'!!!!

How much does a decent beach house go for? Out here in Kalifornia, it's millions, or handed down through the family, neither of which I am fortunate to be familiar with.

In Md you're talking $1 - $2 million to get a pretty nice place. Northern Neck of Virginia is more rural so you can get a pretty kick ass place for $600,000 - $1,000,000 and the property taxes are near half that of MD.

Any of these places will get you fresh crab, oysters, clams and fish right off your dock.

This thread makes me wonder,...who was happier before they got more involved in politics or before they came to this board?

This place is like crack cocaine to me. Addictive as hell but not vert good for me.

The reality is that when there is someone (Trump) that is purposely trying to hurt you, your family, your neighbors and your community there is little you have time for, other than to concentrate on survival and getting rid of the problem.

Excellent question.
I grew up in a political junkie family, so politics was dinner table fare.
Naturally, as a youth I eventually rebelled as young men do, part of which consisted of not giving a damn about politics.
Sure, I continued to vote and follow stuff but only on the surface.
I'd learned a lesson about how activist groups get derailed at the National Peace Action Coalition "March on Washington" in 1971. CPUSA had basically entered as parasites and taken over.
So I went pretty much "radio silence" on politics for many years.

Then I married my second wife. Suddenly politics was having a direct effect on my life, specifically my wife and her son, both disabled and our son a gravely ill child.
And that is when it became clear to me that if you're not at the table, you're probably on the menu.

Happier?
No matter what has happened, or will happen, being with my wife and family has been the best twenty years of my life.

BINGO! That's it right there...spot on.

Prior to my health related forced semi-retirement I would be tinkering with my cameras, or my computer workstation, or possibly playing some music on my piano or Hammond organ clone, perhaps with a couple of buddies.
Or I might be fiddling around with various house projects.
I still do a little bit of film stuff but really just small nothing projects, mostly for the fun of it. My income from selling a couple of commercial retail DVD projects and from real property keeps the wolf from the door along with what my wife has coming in, but I miss being on a production set with a fine crew.

These last few months my "full time job" has been caregiver to my lovely wife but now that she is on the mend and feeling much better she doesn't need me as much.
Thank you Long Beach VA once again, for giving her life back to her.

DP is one of my enjoyable time wasters.
Books, meals, cooking, strolling around SoCal, sure of course. No better place to do it than California.

If I wasn't complaining about Trump, I'd be complaining about the next fattest fascist in line. Is Gingrich going to run again? His infidelities seem less- I don't know- "impressive" now that the orange one has set the ethics bar so low. I shudder to think of who will run next in the GOP's ass slide into political infamy. I'm sure it will be a winner...at any cost.

Politics becomes boring after a while. I haven't paid much attention to it for the last few months. I have better things to do, like enjoy retirement:) I'll let the goofy-ass leftists whinge about it like little bitches.

MAGA baby!!

Oh the woes of poor Trump haters. Can't even address a simple thread about after hour fun without their poor lives being threatened because of an election. It must suck to be you dude.

Having a Honey Jack on the rocks while cooking a Boston Butt on the smoker. Sitting in a tree stand with one of my boys waiting on a monster or dropping a line behind the boat.

While at home I do dabble in Star Citizen and fly a space ship around looking for trouble.

See, here's the thing...I'd complain too.
But the difference is, it wouldn't feel like a sumo wrestler was sitting on my chest 24/7/365.
So my complaints would be momentary; that sumbitch did this or that, oh well...

I look back on some of the stuff I thought was terrible during all kinds of administrations...Nixon is such a crook, why can't Carter fix the hostage issue, what's the deal with Reagan and Iran-Contra and why is he harping on welfare queens as if that represents all poor people, why can't Bill Clinton be less of a pig when it comes to getting some strange tail on the side like all the other prezzy-dints, could someone remind Newt that we're real people and not play toys for his amusement, what the Hell is Bush doing going into Iraq when UBL is in Afghanistan? Why did Obama not fight harder for the public option, who the Hell is this Tim Geithner asshole and Neil Kashkari sure looks like a piece of work.

ALL of it seems petty and picayune now. Well, almost all of it, there was plenty of bad stuff to go around, but in all my years I've never felt truly worried about our future, no matter how crooked or how idiotic a president was, or even incompetent.
All of that pales compared to what I have witnessed in the last 860 some odd days.

And partisanship? Tribalism? Mood of the country? It was Boy Scout level compared to now.
It was like sports team rivalries. Now it feels almost like we're in Northern Ireland in the days of "The Troubles"...maybe not quite, but getting there....I can "see it" from here. If this isn't bordering on sectarian violence, then all that's missing is nightly bombings and shootouts in the streets. Doesn't seem like it's far away.

The mood of the country...what country? Which one? We're not one country anymore. We're Trump Nation versus everyone else.
We're not Americans anymore.

So...you're waiting for your next dose of "sticking it to the libtards".
See? I've been saying that it resembles drug addiction. Thank you for helping prove that point.
You're not the least bit bored. You're JONESING. If Trump doesn't show up soon, you're going to start feeling edgy, tense, a little bit worried, anxious, where the Hell is my next hit of Trump's Tincture of Libtard Tears?

Not paid much attention my rosy red ass, you're waiting by the TV set, hoping Sean Hannity will give you a hit.
Sucking on Libtard Tears makes you feel like you're important, like you actually matter, like Trump actually cares about you, like you're "part of something!"

And when the supply dries up completely, you'll have to face reality again.
I must say, you've done a bang-up job of hiding what has turned out to be a BAIT THREAD.

Damnyankee:

Every thing we do is politics in a sense. Having read your several posts regarding what you do when not posting many political positions and acts are going on in your down time. You are getting out to enjoy the sun which implies you enjoy free time and do not believe that you should be working all the time as an entrepreneur or as a workaholic. You garden which is a political act to favour certain plants over other plants like weeds and to favour certain animals like worms over aphids or earwigs. You drink alcohol and therefore are not in favour of temperance, prohibition and heavy excise taxes on alcohol to offset the enormous costs it imposes on society and people's health. You are a lover of ideas, thus the choice to read a good book rather than limiting yourself exclusively to "The Good Book". You are a meat eater which is an expression of your politics with regard to animals, food processing and sustainability/climate change.

Just about everything we do from sleeping, to toiletries, to breeding, to socialising and eating. We are political creatures and there is no time off from using political reasoning, making political choices, and interacting with others in political ways. There is no reprieve from our political balls and chain.

Cheers.
