I have been seen this article a few times over the past few days: FOX News, Washington Post (better one). A woman in Alabama who has had multiple children after being raped by an uncle is now being forced to allow visitation.

Apparently in Alabama a rapist still has parental rights to a child, apparently there was legislation to change that last month but it was changed to remove that. So with Alabama's new abortion law a women who gets pregnant by her rapist would not only not be able to abort the child but the rapist would also maintain parental rights.

It’s what Jesus would have wanted.

Once again, Alabama proves how much of a ****ty state it is.

Alabama is the soul of the Republican Party.

28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay her father fifty shekels[c] of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.
Deuteronomy 22:28-29

2 years ago, there were still 7 states where a rapist had parental rights. Have these rights been changed in all of these states, except for Alabama?

"... There are seven states without laws preventing rapists from gaining custody of children conceived without consent. In addition to Maryland, such states include Alabama, Mississippi, Minnesota, North Dakota, Wyoming and New Mexico, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). ..."

In 7 US states, rape victims can be legally forced to share custody of their children with their rapist fathers | Fox News

The triumph of the right wing continues.

The Bible: raping virgins since 1200 BC.

Well in this case the family did force the woman to marry the uncle.

The only thing I agree with a rapist having a say in is bullet or rope.

Women are vessels to the GOP. Pence calls his wife 'mother'. That is the role that identifies her.

A Virginia Republican referred to a pregnant women as a 'host.'

Disgusting, especially when you add onto it the way they try to keep people from being properly educated, or from having access to contraception or abortion.

I also have to ask, because I don't remember seeing it mentioned in the articles I saw, but - why the **** is this guy not just in prison for life? Why should him having parental rights even be a consideration? Dude should never see this girl or the children, or goddamn daylight ever again.

Because he only ever went to prison for drugs not any of his other crimes.

Ah, yes, of course conservatives see drugs (something you're doing of your own will, to yourself) as worse than rape (something that you are forcing on someone else, and hurting). Why did I ever think such a silly thought?

Proving that Mr. Deuteronomy was a jerk. Was he the governor of Alabama back in the day?
