Here's this one young man's experience, as an American abroad.

This is AMAZING! Did you know in Germany the ACTUALLY HAVE AN X-RAY MACHINE! AMAZING!!!

I mean, what the hell is the point of this video? They guy sprained his foot. He got a muscle relaxer, and X-ray and "pain cream." Cost him about $100 Euros to be paid in advance. End of his AMAZING story. Nor is it a story about healthcare in Europe, but specifically in a large German city.

There was nothing really wrong with the guy, for which he is amazed at how little it costs - but he had to pay in advance. If you went to an American ER at a hospital - and are an American and said you had no money, they would do the X-Ray for free because OMG! it turns out that we have X-Ray machines too - something the doctor in Germany didn't have - only the hospital did.

Of course, although unlike in Germany they would have done the X-ray for free if you had no money and no insurance, they would send you a really high bill to cover everyone else without insurance. If you didn't pay the bill what would the hospital do? Nothing. They won't sue. Probably wouldn't even report it to a credit bureau.

There is NO point to this video because there was nothing really significantly wrong with the guy, so there isn't really any point to it. Just some young guy telling of his AMAZING experience. I bet all his videos are about his AMAZING trivial experiences.

I hope the OPer doesn't also succeed in wasting minutes of your life. Lesson learned. I guess the reason the OPer didn't bother to make any comment to make even for his own OP is because this video is a total waste of time. There is nothing to it. Just a young guy who believes everything he does and everything that happens is AMAZING.

It's even worse in Finland

So bad, absolute everything sucks here... I'm going crazy!!!

Just FYI, I pay about 300 euros a month for full health and dental coverage in Germany for me and my entire family. The quality of care is ranked higher than the US and life expectancy of Germans is dramatically higher. I have no out of pocket costs other than for a few meds and have had surgeries, MRIs and x-rays without paying a dime.

The US has the most rationed healthcare in the modern world with literal death panels at insurance companies that decide if their customers die or not. Millions of Americans can't see a doctor at all and millions more are saddled with outrageous medical debt. The American system is broken and we have dozens of examples of cheaper, better performing systems.

And I bet your employer pays for the rest of your insurance... either in outright payment or in taxes.

And the Us doesn't have the most rationed healthcare in the modern world.

Meanwhile.. other countries.. DO have literal death panels..that decide if their customers, or citizens die or not.

Our system is not broken... no way..no how.

Okay, but you're wrong in every part of your reply.

I believe they’re called insurance companies in the U.S.

odd that he avoided the six month wait. he must have flown under the radar of the death panels.

When it is cheaper for European insurance companies to fly thier customers back home for treatment for simple things like a broken arm, then you know that the US system is broken.

Employers match the payments you make. Meaning it's still dramatically cheaper than US Healthcare. The per capita cost is less than half what the US pays and every man woman and child in Germany from cradle to grave has full, high quality coverage.

In Germany your doctor and your doctor alone decides if you get a specific procedure. You can not be denied. In America millions of people can't see a doctor at all and millions more go broke doing it. Insurance companies can arbitrarily decide not to pay out if their long time customers just get too expensive, leaving them to die.

So yes, the US has highly rationed healthcare with literal death panels at insurance companies who decide who lives and dies. Your system is broken.

Another defensive rant? No real surprise. Here's something else for you to mock:
An American doctor experiences the NHS. Again. | Dr. Jen Gunter
By the way, if you got injured here we would fix you, for free. Of course you no doubt would prefer the expense of a private hospital because of your lofty moral principles, right?

Which countries have these alleged "death panels"? Name them, because unlike America we don't have venal, for-profit insurers deciding who gets coverage and who doesn't.

Read your link and it just reinforces my opinion of america's for profit health care system. Sadly the republicans in america want to demonize any other system and keep claiming how america has the best health care in the world. The part they leave off is if you can afford it. I think we enjoy watching our citizens suffer with medical bills that are astronomical or just can't be afforded by millions of americans. We place our priorities in the wrong places in america. The dollar is above and beyond any other consideration.

Yes, and if you say it's unaffordable the conservative response will be; 'you made poor life choices', and evidently had a lack of foresight as regards 'personal responsibility'. Until, of course, they get refused coverage for some undiagnosed pre-existing condition. That's when they go very quiet, and probably die.
America's awesome and unparalleled healthcare system is currently languishing in 36th place in the WHO global healthcare rankings, sandwiched neatly between Slovenia and Costa Rica. Obviously much to be proud of.

About $100 bucks xray and 2 doctors visits and meds included.
Me right here in the US. $250 bucks for a swollen eye, eye wash and meds. No ER visit, no xray, no medical equipment.
But, but but it's the best we are the best.

My mother; two major operations for breast cancer, countless scans and visits to doctors and senior consultants, hospice care. My grandmother; an amputation, heart surgery and a lifetime of care under the NHS. Cost? Nothing at the point of delivery, no bills, no questions about insurance, no bankruptcy. What a dreadful state of affairs.

Yeah it's hard to and easy to understand why Americans are so against it so far the only arguement seems to be is I don't want to pay for someone else.
Otherism in the US is the new racism.
Eventually we'll get there but it won't be easy to many people forget someone paid for the road they drive on, the gas pipes, electrical grid, sewer/ water pipes everything we consider everyday was paid for by someone. Either we are a society of individuals or we are individuals in a society.
I know what side I'm on.

You know what's worst than health coverage in the US? Dental coverage....Is there such thing as "good" dental insurance. FFS a good dental policy averages around 1000 coverage. You know how much the coverage was in 1962? 1000 freaking dollars. The average coverage hasnt gone up in 42 freaking years...I was just quoted 7k for an implant here in the US..Couple of Dentists in Montreal ,where I go for work often, quoted me around 1,600...... I'll go to my wife's country of Argentina wheres its 600 dollars...take a little vacation.

Health care, dental care....its all bat sht crazy here in the US.....

We have'em here in Canada. They put you in goal for the Maple Laughs.

I find people in the US do not understand health care in other countries, still believing our is the best, it isn't. A few years ago my daughter was a student in France when she fell and badly broke her arm. She had to go to the ER and eventually had surgery on her arm and pins put in place. She spent three days in the hospital. The total bill was under $1,500.00. The same bill in our country would have been over $15,000.00 dollars. I was involved in health care in this country for over 40 years so I know what it would have cost here. The countries in Europe have better and cheaper health care systems, there is no doubt. I think that is what this man is trying to tell you, but of course you will not believe.

I think the part I bolded is the least heralded, but very important part of most universal healthcare systems: Not worrying. Here in Canada you go in one end, typically your family doctor or ER, and everything is looked after. Appointments are set up for you, any treatment or testing is booked for you, all you do is show up where you're supposed to be at the appointed time. And out you come at the other end, with nothing more to worry about.

It's amazingly helpful imo to have that portion of the stress taken away, and must surely improve overall outcomes

Sickening. Truly vile. This ideology is disgusting, grotesque, and must be defeated.

All Americans need to go to the polls in 2020. Trump is pushing that ideology bigly, and of course the elite are onboard.
