OLC determines that Trump's tax returns DO NOT have to be disclosed

Of course he can, there's nothing stopping him. He also said he would release his tax information as soon as his 'audit' had finished. Strange, don't you think, how magically every other president's taxes had been available for scrutiny? Here's some information for you; every business has an annual audit, so what's wrong with showing us what has already been audited from previous years? Sorry, but the 'audit' excuse doesn't wash. He's hiding something.

As a matter of policy, every presidents and vice presidents are immediately audited and have been for many years yet every other president has released their tax returns each year while in office. The audit argument hold no water at all...

His tax attorney says otherwise. BTW, why is it important to you for Trump to release his taxes?

You don't think the IRS in its audit of Trump's taxes would've investigated any irregularities? Hum?

EDIT: Are you saying there's a deep state element in the IRS that wants Trump to remain as president?:lamo
Mebe you aren't looking for irregularities with Trump's tax returns?

His tax attorney says otherwise. BTW, why is it important to you for Trump to release his taxes?

Is his tax attorney representing him because of some pending IRS charges? Most tax attorneys merely argue tax law to the IRS which would not prevent releasing the tax returns.

Trump can do anything he wants; and don't forget who pays his lawyer's bills. Trump is the person who tells his lawyer what to say and do, not the other way round. I want to see Trump's returns to see how much he owes America. So, why the reluctance to release when every other president has shown you theirs? I have yet to read an adequate reply despite posing the question numerous times. Maybe you can help me out?

Trump is withholding his tax returns on advice of his attorney (I assume tax attorney). Maybe you don't believe Trump but that's what Trump said on the matter.

Trump's not a lawyer. He's smart enough and experienced enough to mind his lawyer's advice.

Why then did Trump promise to make them public after the election? Oh right, he lied and suckered you, but you don't care.

That's right, I don't care.

I don't care if he reveals them or not. I don't care if he changed his mind.

In fact, I don't care if ANY President chooses whether or not to reveal their income tax records. IMO it is just another silly attempt at virtue signaling which has been growing popular lately.

The fact that other people care so much is more a reflection on their questionable motivations for "demanding" that this voluntary piece of political maneuvering now become a requirement. :coffeepap:

But what is the legal reasoning for withholding the tax returns? Trump claims lots of things that aren't based on any law.

I'm suggesting the IRS has found no irregularities.

Then why would he withhold them from congress and defy the law? The American people?

Nothing Trump says will change your mind about Trump, then. I was hoping I was debating rationality.

The JCT is allowed, by federal law, to request the returns. There are no exceptions and no wiggle room.

I would love to debate rationally... What is the legal basis for his refusal to allow the IRS to comply with the law?

Trump's not a lawyer. He's smart enough and experienced enough to mind his lawyer's advice.

Yeah, right ('smart' and 'Trump' are oxymoronic). So, what (apart from his lawyer's advice), is preventing him from releasing his tax returns? This isn't a trick question. If there's nothing to hide, what's the problem?

Why are states passing laws, today, to exclude Trump from ballots until he reveals his tax returns, then, if Trump is already breaking the law when he doesn't reveal his returns as your post states?

This is not a defeat. We already know Trump's DOJ will side with anything that is beneficial to Lord Trump. That's a given. Now we shall see if the Judiciary is the same (doubtful).

It's a smashing defeat.

Talk to the hand. Quit the rhetoric on all your posts. When you come up with some reasoning, I'll begin to listen to you again.

Any year at all. ALL of his returns, like everyone else's, are audited annually and then finished with, so his excuse doesn't wash.

Meh. It's an opinion that runs counter to the law.

The law doesn't require that Neal give any reason.

Upholding the law isn't something conservatives have ever really been interested in.

It's going to be a constitutional question. The opinion agrees that the law does not require any reason for requesting the information. However, the OLC is saying Congress cannot constitutionay mandate the release of confidential information from the Executive branch.

Are you not familiar with 26 USC 6103(f)?

What 'reasoning'? I asked you a simple question. What is preventing Trump from releasing his tax returns, just as every other president has done? There's no rhetoric involved, so quit dodging and answer the question. I mean, you must know the answer, right?
