President Trump told aides to deny that his internal polling showed him trailing former Vice President Joe Biden in key states, according to a new report from The New York Times. Later, when the polling in 17 states conducted by Tony Fabrizio leaked, Trump told aides to tell reporters that other data showed him doing better, according to the Times story written by Annie Karni and Maggie Haberman. The polling reportedly showed Trump behind Biden in a number of the states he needs to take to win reelection, though the Times report did not identify them.

Beyond Trump's internal polling, a series of recent surveys have shown the president trailing Biden in several important states. Last week, a Quinnipiac University poll found Biden 4 points ahead of Trump in Texas, a state Democrats haven't won in the presidential election since 1976. A different poll released last week found Trump trailing Biden and several other 2020 Democrats in Michigan, a state he narrowly won in 2016. Trump was the first Republican presidential candidate to win Michigan and Pennsylvania since 1988. He also won Wisconsin, the first time a Republican had taken that state since 1984. If Trump were to lose those three states in 2020 and the Democratic nominee held the other states carried by Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016, Trump would lose the Electoral College.

Trump trailing in New York, no surprise there. But Biden is ahead in Texas, although Trump is beating every other Democrat.

I can buy that he's trying to bury any polling data that doesn't show him in a good light. That being said, 2020 is some time away and Biden hasn't even won the DNC nomination yet. So there's not much faith to put into polls at this point. If the DNC does run Biden...perhaps he wins, perhaps not. I don't see Biden as a really exciting candidate and just mostly more of the same.

Trump lies. That's not even news anymore. The more interesting thing is that hes stooges believe everything he says. I know there's a Republican born every minute, but damn if they don't mount up quick!

Now, if only the Democrats don't do something foolish and nominate another loser candidate, we can be finished with Trump once and for all.

This is more about Trump's insecurities as demonstrated by his reaction to the polls than the relevance of the polls to the eventual outcome of the election.

What are you talking about? No additional evidence is required or has been required in over a year. The Dems can impeach anytime they want. They have the votes. It's a technicality.

Noting is or has been required to impeach him for a long time. It's just a matter of when, and they'll decide.

But so that you understand... evidence is not the limiting factor. Political timing is the limiting factor.

Or maybe before we jump to conclusions again, we should get another 35 million dollar special counsel to tell us Trump LIES.

As a democrat I'll take it a bit further, I don't think Biden will survive the primaries.

The democrats know the ONLY way they can beat president Trump in 2020 is to impeach him other wise there is no way they can win!

Yeah and there were polls showing Clinton ahead of Trump in Texas, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Right. Because the Dems have the vote and it's a technicality. That you pretend evidence is the limiting factor is ignorance of a monumental size. It's gotta be intentional. You gotta be pretending there is no evidence with that routine.

You know the Dems can do it anytime they want. You know a lack of evidence is not preventing that. You just pretend to be clueless.

We'll have to see. I think that the Dems putting up Biden shows they hadn't really learned anything from Hillary. They have some decent candidates, particularly from their ex-governor pool, that I think could do a lot towards energizing their base and bringing in new ideas. Biden could possibly beat Trump, probably one of the few candidates he could possibly beat. But he can easily loose too.

We'll have to see what comes out of the DNC, but they're all about Biden Biden Biden at this moment.
