Mexico Agreed to Take Border Actions Months Before Trump Announced Tariff Deal

I’m glad that an agreement was reached and that, hopefully, Mexico will do a better job stopping illegal immigrants from passing through their country to the U.S.. Having said that, I do not understand why you seem to believe that because the deal has been officially memorialized in writing that that makes any real difference. What’s America going to do if Mexico fails to live up to the agreement? Sue? The answer is nothing more than we could/would do without a written agreement.

If Mexico fails to live up to the agreement, they will be broadsided with tariffs that will devastate their economy. In effect, Mexico will pay for the wall many times over.

No matter how dishonestly the anti-Trump brigade wants to paint this, by threatening to impose tariffs, the POTUS is helping to MAGA...

In the written accord, proving a renewed commitment, Mexico promised to send 6,000 national guard troops near the border with Guatemala, a show of force that they said would immediately reduce the number of Central Americans heading north toward the United States. On Friday they also froze the bank accounts of 26 people who allegedly are involved in human smuggling/trafficking. Thank you President Trump for playing a tough hand, and winning national security for the U.S. Sadly, his partisan haters condemn him for actually doing his job.

I don't get the impression he is going to slap tariffs on them one way or another. He's just blowing a lot of hot air. This is a pattern that many foreign leaders are catching on to.

If you were speaking about previous presidents, democrat and republican, you would have a point. However Mexico is taking the threat of tariffs seriously.

Even GOPers rallied around President Trump's successful deal with MX.

Let's face it. Trump gave MX. a deal they couldn't refuse, a deal good for America but bad for his partisan foes. The latter, too bad, but they lost this one...

Thats what the libruls are afraid of. If the border crossings tank, Trump easily winds re-election in 2020 and the democrats likely lose the House.

???

Do you seriously think that tariffs on Mexico rising to 20-25% will make no difference to the Mexican economy? Heck, just the threat of those tariffs brought Mexico rushing to DC to work something out. If Mexico fails to live up to this agreement and if Trump slaps them with that tariff, Mexico will suffer.

And Mexico know this.

Believe me, Mexico WILL live up to their agreement.

You too are missing the point. trix repeatedly highlighted the fact that Mexico agreed, in writing, to enact measures to stem the flow of illegal immigrants transiting through their country on their way to the U.S.. I simply pointed out that whether or not the agreement was in writing means nothing at all. There is no legal process by which to enforce the agreement, and the U.S. could respond in whatever manner the administration chooses, including tariffs.

In short, the written agreement isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on.

Wonderful, but the written agreement still means nothing.

Even GOPers?

Even GOPers went out to help spread their party leader's talking points?

Of course GOPers did this. What were they going to do? Go out and say, "Glad Trump was able to come up with a face saving piece of paper to give him a semi-graceful way to back away from his threat to kill the jobs of our voters who depend on trade with Mexico"?

No, of course they wouldn't be candid about their collective sigh of relief that Trump had been talked down from something that would have been very bad for them. Of course they went out and buttered up their egotistical party leader.

Wonderful, but the written agreement still means nothing.

It means Mexico will step up to the plate and stop the flow of migrants coming into the US from Mexico or they will end up with a devastated economy. Any more silly comments?

Deflection noted and...

Dismissed.

Not a deflection, it’s called a pattern. Sorry you don’t like facts con. Your boy trumptard lies like a rug.

Yeah just like how NK is being penalized for continuing their weapons program. Oh wait, they aren’t and now trump says it isn’t a concern to him. Face facts your boy trumptard is a liar.

Man.....You just cannot be seen to admit that once again, Trump was dishonest. He says he "won" something so you must repeat it. You must deny actual reality, in which this was already hammered out with Mexico and the whole tariff thing was just a show put on for you, with the purpose of duping you into crediting Trump himself.

You always do exactly the same thing. Any thread, any subject. You Fox tells you something or maybe you read a Trump tweet, and you scurry right over to DP to retype it and then high-five each other for sycophancy well done.

Democracy is ****ed with you lot infesting it.

Such delicious irony expressed. ^^^
While dishonestly altering DP forum poster's quotes, as if that were not enough, the above delusional effluvium is just priceless.

Mexico Agreed to Take Border Actions Months Before Trump Announced Tariff Deal

Mexico had already promised to take many of the actions agreed to in Friday's immigration deal with the US -- months before President Donald Trump's tariff threat.

Yet another Trump con-job exposed to the light of day. 90% of Trumps "deal" with Mexico announced on Friday was finalized in previous months, well before his recent tariff threat.

Trump doesn't work in "patterns". He applies actions that fit specific situations.

no his patterns are to act tough and then cave in and say he doesn’t care or it doesn’t really matter. Trumptard is a liar and trumptard supporters are a disease to this country that should be celebrated when they die off.
“By using all the tools available to him under U.S. law, President Trump has advanced the protection of our national security interests,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said in a statement. “While I generally do not support imposing tariffs, except in cases of legitimate violations of U.S. trade law, Mexico’s lack of commitment when it comes to addressing the unsustainable and dangerous migratory crisis at our Southern Border has left this administration no other choice. By exerting maximum pressure and demanding decisive action from the López Obrador administration, President Trump has secured an important victory on behalf of the American people.”
Once upon a time I put my hope for the nation on Marco. If he had stood by what appeared to be sound (and even bold) principles instead of evolving into a hack, he would have been someone I would proudly have voted for for president.

Between Hillary and Marco, I argued at another forum that Marco would be preferable because he would have the best chance to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Now he has folded into a bellows pumping hot air to help puff up Trump.

That's why Trump is still holding onto his trump card: tariffs.

Trump's political foes can lie to themselves about the accord not being a win for our country but it won't change reality. It's a win!

Mexico must do their part to avoid punitive actions, punitive actions that will cripple their economy. MX. is on the verge of recession, and to not follow through with their written promises will hurt the people of MX. in every way...

Such a sweet victory for our nation's security, a win-win all should be celebrating.

Nonsense.

Ask China about his "pattern".

If Mexico fails to live up to the agreement, they will be broadsided with tariffs that will devastate their economy. In effect, Mexico will pay for the wall many times over.

Yes, they will, and by stopping the flow of migrants by a virtual militarized fence at their southern border, and no pesos are coming from our pockets.
Mexico's actions will drastically reduce migration numbers, and no thanks to the Democrat obstructionists, and even some naysayers of the GOP, Trump played this right.

Of course, as we can see, some from the latter group, who wouldn't go along with Trump's tariff threat, have done an about face, and are now hitching their horses to Trump's wagon, such as human nature, ('what's in it for me').

Nonsense.

Ask China about his "pattern".

Your comments are pure nonsense and only prove me 100% right about trump and trump supporters.

So...you don't know what Trump did to China. Okay.

Moving on...

Of course you ignore what trump did with NK. Again thank you for proving me 100% right about trumptard supporters.

Until this weekend, all we had from Mexico was promises of action. Now they have signed an agreement to act. Mexico doesnt benefit by breaking agreements and making an enemy of the US. If they dont live up to what they agreed to do, then they will face tariffs. Maybe more.

It's just Good Business is what.Like a - Fail Safe -.Then again ALL Dems know or care to know
is Nanny State theory. That and Lying.

That’s up to you.

You havent been proven right about anything. The US has spent the last 70 years doing everything short of invasion in an attempt to get NK to change its ways. NOthing has worked Trump tried a different approach, so far that hasnt worked either. So what? If you think world governments think they can play Trump, you dont know what the hell you are talking about.
