A grocery store just opened near me, and almost all the employees speak Spanish only. Except for the cashiers who need to speak English.

If you are working in the US and do not speak English, chances are you are an illegal immigrant.

If businesses like this grocery store were penalized for hiring illegal immigrants, they would stop coming here. There would be more low skill jobs for Americans. Everyone could stop talking about immigration.

I know the Republicans used to like illegal immigration because of cheap labor. But why are they pretending they don't like it now?

It's just playing to the base....but they will never do anything really effective to cut illegal immigration

Yep, between those who desire to help "job creators" keep labor costs down and those who see politically advantageous demographic changes accelerating there are not enough votes left enact policies to reduce immigration (legal or not).

Trump has solved the illegal immigration problem. Now, you don't have to talk about it anymore because it's no longer a problem

Pretending gets them re-elected. There will be more illegal immigrants living inside the US after Trump's term(s) than there were when he took office.

Are there enough low-skilled unemployed Americans to man those jobs?
I agree though. If a few motel owners and landscaping contractors and golf course operators were jailed and their businesses fined they might stop luring those illegal aliens into your country. Greedy bastards. People complain about aliens stealing jobs but those jobs weren't stolen- they were taken from Americans by greedy bastards and given to illegal immigrants.

Yes the business owners cause the problem, and the system that refuses to prosecute them.

I believe there would be enough Americans to fill the low skill jobs, they would just have to pay more. The illegals are doing all kinds of things I used to see Americans doing, especially landscaping and construction.

So American teenagers are stuck with the jobs that require English, like cashiers.

I highly doubt they are illegal immigrants. Far more likely they are somewhat fluent in English, but more comfortable in their native tongue. And they don't want to be bothered with customer service so....no hable.

Why do you doubt they are illegal? And they are obviously not at all fluent in English.

There have been hoards of illegal immigrants working in the area where I live for decades. Everyone knows it.

I don't watch TV news, don't have TV. But I bet the mainstream news never talks about any of this.

The right just yells about a wall, the left just yells about how it's racist to control immigration.

Not necessarily. If you run towards a US border patrol and cry: "Asylum!", you will be taken to a border station, checked out, kept for a few days and then handed over to one of the many "distribution organizations". No work permit given at this time.

But here is where the problem starts: according to our laws, the hearing for that asylum application has to take place within 180 days, but the courts' wait list is now up to 5 years because of the sheer volume of "asylum seekers". So, after 180 days and no court hearing, the "asylum seeker" can now apply for a temporary work permit and - voila - your neighborhood grocery store is manned with legal "asylum seekers".
 
Not to worry folks. Trump coerced Mexico into stopping the migrants from coming our way. No mas lejos!

Hispanic border crossers and asylum caravans are history now. And best of all, Trump no longer has to steal from our military for his vanity wall.

Unemployment is at 3%. Businesses need workers. Why not make a way to let them hire help legally? It's called the free market. Conservatives and Libertarians used to support it.

My Grandfather came to America from Italy with nothing but the close on his back, raised five kids all of whom were successful contributors to society, most of his grand kids have college educations and are successful contributors to society, all the great grand kids and great great grand kids seem to be on the same path, none of these people have ever broken the law beyond a traffic ticket. My Grandfather died a multi-millionaire.

Right now we are at full employment, American ag, construction, hospitality and restaurants are screaming for help. And the stable genius is most worried about people that want to come here, as my grandfather did, and contribute to society. :roll:

What we should be doing is fixing our broken system to better process immigrants so that they are accepted into our society to become productive or sent home if they have criminal or other problems we aren't willing to deal with.
