Straight Pride Parades

Actually I think it is more than that. What gays are proud of, is how they handled their process of coming out, how they first survived, then learned to persevere, and then, hopefully - they learned to thrive in an environment often fraught with hostility, marginalization, belittling and condemnation. Its not what they are, that creates a sense of pride, its how they dealt with the adversities inherent in any personal and professional journey, that got them on that float, or marching in a public street.

D'accord. Agree completely, except maybe with the past tense. Still today imagine what happens in a gay man when he's walking down a dark sidewalk and hears, "Hey, faggot!" behind him. They're still dealing with that stuff.

And I don't see how they can grant the permit before adequately reviewing it and not set themselves up to lose a lawsuit

I agree they need to adequately review the application, and as long as the Straight Pride parade meets the same requirements as the Gay Pride parade had to meet an approval should happen.

The two things are unrelated and the bigot parade does not meet any of the qualifications of an empowerment and progress parade.

There is no equivalence.

Any qualification is technical and has nothing to do with any other parade.

"You started it" is an irrelevant matter when you claimed it was banned
You brought up the ban not me. You factually brought it up. I've already told you this. Please stop saying I started it. No one likes a liar.

being gay qualifies you as parade worthy...but being straight doesn't? That's textbook discrimination. Marty Walsh knows this...that's why he will sign the permit. He has to or he will be sucessfully sued.

Well I am one of them, and I am well aware that risks still exist, but normally by the time a gay man is standing on a float in leather, most of the process of coming out is past, that obliges the use of the passed tense.

And we also have recognize that a gay pride parade is and was always a political statement. It played a definitive role in unifying gay political and social action. It also served as a political demonstration, as such it was also designed to be provocative. That's how any first wave movement gains the attention of the media. The nudity, and the nun's outfit were originally about 'shock and awe' just as burning bras, or draft cards, or marching with a black panther insignia were in the 60's and 70's for different movements. Most of these guys lounge around in sweats and that is what they go to the store in.

Lindsey always seemed boarder line to me. It's too bad he lacks the backbone to come out for or condemn gays...

Every gay friend I have, or ever HAVE had, says that self-loathing closeted gay men are perhaps some of the most dangerous people on Earth, and always have been. I don't normally dig that deep into the gay psyche...ahem, not normally.
This is something that they have all brought up at some time or another, I guess it just comes up in conversation, but it wasn't so very all consuming until the last few years. That is when I've heard it brought up the most.

I venture it's because so many self-loathing closeted gay men, mostly gay WHITE men but a few in the minorities as well, are acting out against the out gay population, on behalf of the Christian straights on the Right, or in any case, according to their PERCEIVED concept OF it "being on behalf of" Christian straights on the Right.

I bet any amount of money that Lindsey Graham is a self-loathing closeted gay Christian Right male Republican.
And this is what they do, and they do it vindictively, and it's that special "Hellfire Enhanced Pearl Clutching" style vindictiveness which is so dangerous.

And Miss Lindsey is outright pathological.

Gay progress is worthy of celebrating. Hetero bigotry is not.

Is that simple enough?

Of course the bigots get a permit. Otherwise, the crying and wailing by little bigot boys would be intolerable.

What bigotry. I've already posted facts and the organizers statements. The only bigots here are the heterophobes.

You believe that? Really?

What's the problem if graham is gay? Intolerant much?

Straight pride parades are allowed.

You should organize one, or are you ashamed of being straight?
There already is one organized...we are waiting for a leftist mayor to approve it. So far he hasn't and won't comment if he will.

Luckily for Boston the mayor has already said their peraonal views are not a factor in the determination. If the city decides to deny the Straight Pride permit after it meets the same qualifications as imposed on the Gay Pride parade they will be looking at a lawsuit. Denying a permit based on sexual orientation is illegal.

/// No one likes a liar. /// If this true why do millions support Trump who has been fact checked for over 10,000 lies since he disgraced the Oval Office ?

Says the peraon crying ans wailing about a Straight Pride parade possibility.

I'm not and haven't been to a parade but it looks like a party, a celebration. On the news. And I get the reference to Black Panther insignia and the shock value. It's part of how a balanced centre is found- one extreme being confronted by the opposite.
If I were gay in some parts of the US I'd be nervous watching the anti-abortion action happening and I'd wonder where the conservative gaze will fall next. The rights and freedoms won by liberals over the years need to be protected by vigilance and determination. Nothing is ever settled in politics.
