I can tell you have never had heel spurs.

It hurts like hell. They give you cortisone shots right into the area of the inflammation, and THAT hurts like hell. I had one ortho guy tell me it hurts him to give that shot. You have to wear special custom made orthotics in your shoes. Then it takes weeks for the pain to go away. And you get some relief from that and BOOM, it comes back and you have to go through all that crap all over again.

One thing you are NOT going to do when you have heel spurs is do much running, walking, or marching, which is exactly what you do in boot camp. I didn't develop them until later in life but being in boot camp with that would have been miserable. I saw people get medical discharges with less than that.

So have them removed. It's a quick operation done under local anaesthetic and you'll be up and sprinting like a gazelle on speed in no time. What was Trump's excuse?
He had none; he is simply a snivelling, cowardly wretch who took the easy way out of serving his country. Oh, and Trump seems to be getting around very well considering the 'agonies' he must be suffering. What a trooper and sterling example to us all!:lamo

I guess you didn't read the article you posted because surgery is not the first choice. And I'll bet you were never in the military, let alone during Vietnam because you apparently don't know about the little things that can disqualify you.

Draft dodging is maybe the one thing I wouldn’t criticize Trump on. Drafts are as bad as slavery, if not worse. They should be resisted.

Seems rather irrelevant, considering that there is no evidence that Trump ever actually suffered with heel spurs, you know?

Btw, bone spurs are for life. So the criminal in the oval office could put this entire controversy to bed forever (and discredit his critics in the process) with a simple plain film of his right heel.

One would think that the guy who once demanded Obama's birth certificate would be eager to show us his bone spurs, right?

You could opt out of slavery the same way you could opt out of war: being rich and/or white!

You're belittling slavery. How disgusting.

Someone could avoid the draft, or at least combat, as a conscientious objector. Or they could move. Black people were allowed no objection and had no option to move.

Further, the horrors experienced by a slave and their entire family cannot be compared to compulsory service. Most of Europe has compulsory service. Most of Europe practices slavery?

I disliked Trumps statements regarding prisoners of war. I don't hold it against him for getting out of the draft for VN. It was an unpopular conflict. For those who are using it against him now is strictly politics. There are bigger issues to use against Trump.

I got the card, but never heard from them again. I, along with most of my friends and acquaintances were against the war, but would have all gone if called. I knew someone and heard about others who applied for a conscientious objector exemption, but were denied. Getting out wasn't easy or cheap. Some poor smuck without resources had to take Don's place, I bet he would hold it against him.

You know maybe people wouldn't make such a big deal out of this if he didn't go so far out of his way trying to come off like a big swinging dick.

You're right, Trump has other issues that need to be exposed, but I would contend that someone who pretends to be someone he's not, coupled with his fragile ego, insecurity and impulsive behavior, puts our country at risk...

That's asinine. Objecting to equating slavery, the most horrible event in our nation's history, with a draft is normal and not belittling anything.

Do you compare the draft to the Holocaust as well?
