There is left and there is far left. If you want to get technical, Democrats are on the left, progressives and Democratic Socialists are on the far left. But left is still left. It's just a matter of degrees. By the way, we're talking about the US here so you can't compare to other countries. US politics is US politics.

And there's 'center' and 'right. There are dems who are in all those categores.

Democrats are necessarily on the left.
