FBI said that white supremacy presents a "persistent" and "pervasive" threat to the United States, breaking from President Donald Trump, who has sidestepped questions of whether white nationalists present a growing problem.
"The danger. I think, of white supremacists, violent extremism or another kind of extremism is of course significant," "We assess that it is a persistent, pervasive threat. We tackle it both through our joint terrorism task forces on the domestic terrorism side as well as through our civil rights program on the civil side through hate crime enforcement."
Inside the U.S. military's battle with white supremacy and far-right extremism
Obviously, the military does not want such recruits, but it also does not have a comprehensive system for screening them out. All recruits go through a criminal-background check when they enlist, but this only detects extremist membership if they have been charged with a crime related to such beliefs.
The Ku Klux Klan, founded in 1866 by a group of Confederate war veterans, offers perhaps the best example of the symbiosis that can and has existed between extremists and members of the military.
Often its goes without being labeled, as " domestic terrorism", because there is reluctance within white society to address it, because 'white supremacist look like other white people"; However, if the same was done by people with brown or black skin, there would be immediate acts by white people to call it " domestic terrorism". The over-riding question in the minds of Americans, should be a simple one, which ask: "why do some white people have a problem living in a civic society of multicultural composition"?
If we are to truly build a just, anti-racist society, white allies must continually challenge themselves to keep that same energy in denouncing not just white supremacists, but also the myriad effects of white supremacy. This includes racial disparities in access to basic human needs like shelter, water and safety.
We must show up and denounce injustice with vigor and vehemence, whether it shows up in a klan robe, a tailored suit or a policy that has a disparate impact on Black and other people of color.
Although U.S. policy on white homegrown terror has been abysmal since the turn of this century, this president – with his vainglorious refusal to admit that an immoral strain of white nationalism helped elect him in 2016 – and his administration are making the problem much, much worse.
George Selim, a former Homeland Security and National Security Council staffer under both Democratic and Republican presidents, said the government office most directly targeting domestic terrorism has seen its budget decimated under Trump, down from $21 million to just $3 million, and its staff reduced by more than half.
The truly abominable thing is that white-nationalist terror isn’t the only area where Trump and his government is looking the other way – part because of our narcissistic president’s over-the-top vanity and in part because things that threaten American democracy often seem to be good news for the current occupant of the Oval Office.
The cost of white privilege and white supremacy for white people is nothing short of trading in humanity for the illusion of comfort. In order to cash in on the privileges and benefits of white supremacy, white people must fear, disown, demean, ignore, dehumanize, exoticize, murder, incarcerate, and segregate ourselves from the majority of humanity. Naming the ways in which white supremacy wounds white people is a way to move past the “helping” or “service” model to become “co-conspirators” and “comrades” in the movement for racial justice.
America MUST become a mutually supporting society of Multicultural Heritage and Multicultural Make Up.... if America is committed to having a better future as being "AMERICA"... which honors its own Declaration of Independence, and Supports its own "Preamble to The Constitution" and supports the Government Designed by the Principles of The Constitution.
America will NEVER be or become a one ethnicity society... America has NEVER been a one ethnicity society!
