FBI said that white supremacy presents a "persistent" and "pervasive" threat to the United States, breaking from President Donald Trump, who has sidestepped questions of whether white nationalists present a growing problem.

"The danger. I think, of white supremacists, violent extremism or another kind of extremism is of course significant," "We assess that it is a persistent, pervasive threat. We tackle it both through our joint terrorism task forces on the domestic terrorism side as well as through our civil rights program on the civil side through hate crime enforcement."

Inside the U.S. military's battle with white supremacy and far-right extremism
Obviously, the military does not want such recruits, but it also does not have a comprehensive system for screening them out. All recruits go through a criminal-background check when they enlist, but this only detects extremist membership if they have been charged with a crime related to such beliefs.

If we are to truly build a just, anti-racist society, white allies must continually challenge themselves to keep that same energy in denouncing not just white supremacists, but also the myriad effects of white supremacy. This includes racial disparities in access to basic human needs like shelter, water and safety.

We must show up and denounce injustice with vigor and vehemence, whether it shows up in a klan robe, a tailored suit or a policy that has a disparate impact on Black and other people of color.

George Selim, a former Homeland Security and National Security Council staffer under both Democratic and Republican presidents, said the government office most directly targeting domestic terrorism has seen its budget decimated under Trump, down from $21 million to just $3 million, and its staff reduced by more than half.

The truly abominable thing is that white-nationalist terror isn’t the only area where Trump and his government is looking the other way – part because of our narcissistic president’s over-the-top vanity and in part because things that threaten American democracy often seem to be good news for the current occupant of the Oval Office.

White Supremacy Hurts White People

White supremacy hurts white people, too. That may be no more evident than in the Republican Party. Its so unfortunate, that "too many white people" don't want to have the honest conversation, and others spend an inordinate amount of effort to deny this and still others, investment themselves to deflect and avoid the truths of racism that is well documented over centuries in America; still even more hold on to reservation deep within of ideals of white superiority, even when they pretend it is not outwardly, there are many that hold deep wants to cling to that delusion of being superior based on skin color, and this is something that is sadly existing in both "some" who claim themselves Liberal, as well as we know its overt in some who claim themselves non liberal. I don't use the world "conservative" here, because the only thing that such can try and conserve, is the history of racial based ideology. The fiction of the term, "fiscal conservative" is and was born of a detesting of seeing tax funds and programs to include minorities and women as individuals as being American as "person". That is based on the long history of American Taxpayer monies having been directed to what white middle class and the wealthy desired, with no regard for minorities, and certainly as results have shown, no regard for what poor whites in society desired as to sharing in the benefits of tax based resources.

In a forum that should be focused on dealing with truth... many run from the posting that can engage a discussion about "real truths"... instead, they run from it, and go to the cover of threads where they can play, slap stick one liner puns, and walk away thinking themselves to have done or said something, when it has only exposed their avoidance of truth and emphasis ed their short attention span... both of which plays into supporting their folklore confabulations about life and the past...

In this age of information, the coming generations are "seeking out the truth(s)" and they are facing up to the good, the bad, the ugly and the indifferent, as they are determined to build a future that is based in growing through "truths" that regard and respect the dignity and humanity of all.

In Today's Era... the Genealogy and DNA studies are proving unto people... the expanse of their ethnic make up.. which rules out the ignorance of which selective conscience based folklore groomed racism promotes. Time will continue to move us forward on past the vain illusions of monetary based, bias, bigotry and racism has invoked upon us as a plague for generations... As the younger generation, by the forces of circumstance in the economic disparity, has and continues to bring people, to move past this vile past of "monetary based segregationist Idiocy"... Even in the arena where "monetary based fictions of power" has continued to demonstrate the malice and madness, which today's young are seeing as a cancerous make up, that damages not only current generation, but is the culprit of past disgraces that has damaged society. The young generation is looking beyond such vanity and vile... They care about "humanity", "environmental concerns", "global diplomacy" and "building a civility within civic processes... where people are informed, and educated... They will revamp the education system, and get back to a system that previously had community and state universities to serve the people, without the burden of debt. This was the model, before Ronald Reagan SEVERELY DAMAGED AND DISGRACED The Premise and Principles ofThe Education System, with his "greed model" which was designed to void out the working and working poor masses and make it only available and affordable to the well to do, by creating a format designed with the intent and acts of encumbering the working class and the poor with insane debt. Hmm... if X is persistent and pervasive does that, in any way, indicate that X is, in fact, is growing? Many specific areas of federal law enforcement are grossly underfunded, high among them is interior immigration law enforcement. Whenever any federal department, agency or program gets its funding cut (empire reduced?) then cries of "imminent disaster is sure to follow" are always raised.

You state the obvious....America has never been a "one ethnicity society." True, it has been dominated by immigration from Europe since it's "discovery" by either the Vikings or Columbus (pick your preference), but there were always large groups of Native Americans, the importation of Africans, and eventually an influx of Asians particularly in the West Coastal regions.

As a result what has dominated the USA is "Western culture," i.e. the ideals of Government, Economics, Philosophy, etc.. That is the "European legacy" which has been the principal guidance of our American cultural development to date.

IMO, despite the many horrors, inequities, and problems which have been experienced during the growth of this nation, we have developed the most enlightened cultural foundation in the world. This must be true, else your "racist tirade" would not be allowed, much less open to considerate response in this Political Forum.

If $3M is enough to keep (just?) under half of the staff then let's say $7M would have allowed keeping the entire staff. That makes me wonder what the other $14M (which was cut) of their annual budget was being spent on.

Another part of that statement is concerning: If this cut was to those "most directly targeting domestic terrorism" how much more is being spent "targeting domestic terrorism" by other (overlapping?) parts of the massive DHS structure?

The system of college and university today... is about "Profit"...!!!! They don't care how they get it... be it by fleecing the poor and the wealthy, and they don't care whether ones pays cash or pay by debt, "their goal is to get the money"... They don't care so much about "curriculum" as was the origins of education, long before institution sprang up in America. The Ancient Historical Education, all the way back to truly ancient times, was about "Learning"...
The principle of learning was based in actual... learning the basics and adhering to principles for the growth and development and expansion of knowledge.

Its the origins of why any certification was considering "Certification to PRACTICE", be it medicine or law or what ever, becasue the art of practice is to continue learning.
We allowed it to become to take of the focused obsessions of being monetized, based on man's principle absolution in "greed", "status" and "power"... until it has lost concern and awareness of the valuable word, of "Practice"... They now want to hail themselves a "guru".... for the sake of "greed", "status" and "power". As a result... the entire world suffer's from that gluttony and vanity and false sense of pride filled avarice.
