Well , that's a easy question, His Tariff war against other countries. If ding bat put a tariff on a product and that product is still purchased by a American wholesaler . who pays the tariff. Then a retailer buys from the wholesaler , who pays the tariff and you buy it from the retailer who pays the tariff.. do the math 150 billion in tariffs on china divided by our population 325 000000- 150000000000 divided by 325000000=$469 increase of prices for every man women and child . Basically lowering the standard of living by that amount for every person in this country, Family of 5would be $2307.00 decrease in this family of five's income. The rights leader has never heard the phrase from every economist , YOU CAN"T WIN A TRADE WAR< NO ONE WINS< but a stupid president seems that the rule doesn't include him.

Hmm... first he cuts a very visible tax to buy votes and then he adds an invisible tax using some ($16B?) of it to buy even more votes. I'd call that clever if he can pull it off.

You are assuming all the wholesalers and retailers raised their prices.

The CPI doesn't reflect that at all.

The American middle class is waking up. They got screwed with the Trump/GOP tax giveaway of 2017, and they're getting screwed again by Trumps tariffs.

And now the trade deficit, the federal debt, and the federal deficit are all at historic highs.

Prices of everyday items has been on the rise and these latest tariffs are aimed right at them. You may not have been hit till now unless you were trying to buy a washing machine or some other household appliance. But Wallmart, the king of staple goods discounting has already announced its customers would be facing price increases now.

I find it ironic that people who express concern about income inequality; which I find to be a huge problem in America also feel we should allow illegal trade practices by China to be unchallenged.

My post was a flippant reply to the very hyperbolic thread title.

However I wish I knew how to solve income equality, but I don't. My best advice would be to get a smart education, and place yourself in a position where you're not competing with 3rd world labor. But that's getting more difficult by the day, and now even Trump went on TV to promote bringing-in more highly-educated foreign workers, including their families, and giving them citizenship!

So yeah our government, as part of the business-government plutocracy, is really fudging us over at every turn! They hollowed-out the working-class with decades of illegal immigration, and now they seem to be gunning for the technical-professional class!

It's quite depressing. But if we cut-off the immigration, which is my desire, and we let wages rise in America, our corporations will move overseas even more rapidly. So we're really screwed here. I just don't see any way to beat the economic forces of globalization. All we can do is try to position ourselves as individuals, the best we can. Which quite honestly, is really all most of us can ever do in life.

So, does China do certain things that are unfavourable in terms of trade, absolutely.

However the question is, does Trump really know what he’s doing?

He seems to struggle with basic reality most of the time, he doesn’t demonstrate he really understands much of what he’s doing, so does he really understand the full implications of the Trade War he’s starting?

Especially when it’s between the worlds two largest economies that could have massive knock on affects that could destabilize the global economy?

Trade wars can spiral out of control extremely fast and end up hurting both sides, so the question comes down to again, does Trump really know what he’s doing and if it does spiral out of control is the American consumer willing to take the hit in the short term for some vague payoff later that may or may not materialize?

We may just find out by in terms of income inequality we know for sure that the usual republican tax plan of making the rich even richer with unnecessary tax cuts seems a bigger issue to me than Chinese trade practices.

Your response is interesting as it i along the lines of an allegedly "smart" president,Obama. I say allegedly because at least to me it is the wrong answer to a very large problem. As an example regardless of how many kids to go college and study accounting, the big 4 firms won't hire more accountants. Pick a field and use the same response. Will Apple or Google hire more programmers because 5X the kids take that in college, no. In addition their are only so many people with the aptitude to even strive for these smart education. We were lucky, many not so much so.

As you I don't know the answer but I do think it is not one magic button to push. It is a lot of things that will make it attractive enough to produce things in America where folks will get an income which will allow their families to have a decent life.

Sadly I have come to believe that politicians have neither the skills to work those issues nor the desire. The lack of desire stems from the ability to use the dire place many Americans live in to bash the other party. Fixing major problems takes issues off the table, not good for collecting the $$$ needed to run campaigns.

It will take things to get materially worse and the population to say a pox on both your houses for things to get fixed. Perhaps I am to cynical ina way I hope I am.

OK Trump doesn't know what he is doing and the world as we know it may end.

What do you recommend to the illegal, not unfavorable, actions of China.

The last paragraph makes little sense, unless you think increasing EITC ans ending SALT helps the very rich. I will agree that lowering the top individual tax rates was a bad move.

All that fat pig has to do to verify his ignorance is to open his mouth. On 5/23/19 he declared again "I am genius." Yes, everything you do proves that out Trump you scum.

tariff WILL COST EVERY MAN WOMEN AND CHILD $460 A YEAR. TELL ME AGAIN ABOUT INCOME INEQUALITY

Income equality is simple, pull back every right wing tax cut, starting and at the top of the list Reagan's Trickle down lie. That is the whole story. Don't believe me just look at any income equality chart going back to 1981.

don't agree at all, you sound like a right winger, you educate your population, you raise there ability to compete in the world market. The right wants to keep them stupid for obvious reasons.

Look at the numbers , we could be all living on streets paved with gold if we tear down the tax system that distributes every dime of new profits to the top which has been the case for the last 40 years. The profits are massive massive massive , the distribution is to the top few. There is more then enough to keep the wealthy ungodly rich and have enough to bring up the standard of living for the other 97% of the population massively. Not a little but a massive increase.

Once upon a time, we saw collective bargaining as the great equalizer and it actually worked for decades. Now we need unions on steroids with Marvel superpowers to fight the impact of globalization, but what we are getting is weakened unions with declining membership, unstable funding sources, and decreased political power. Until we figure out a newer more effective and borderless model for collective worker action and response, we will stay doomed. I don't know what that successful model looks like.

I was a union steward in a packinghouse. You?

^ Still another progressive Democrat posting messages furiously demanding he gets to keep his foreign child labor sweatshop slaves. Losing their slaves and quest to have their own slave nation, the Democratic Party demands they can still have their slaves thru foreign slave task masters. But, since you are white and those children aren't, likely you view is they were born to serve the white race.

The Democratic was and remains the party demanding non-white slaves for white people.

Wow! Advocating reducing union wages to Latin American levels. I switched which party I opposed to absolutely to total opposition to the Democratic Party for their switching from protecting American workers to trashing American workers - specifically union workers - on behalf of the super rich's cheap immigrant labor.

When when trade union bosses started flying around in private jets they used union dues for like the super rich, nearly all the trade unions were destroyed. Blue collar union members can not win when the Union president is on the same side as the company against them.

The great equalizer back to the origins of this country was tariffs - which also paid for the entire federal government - to stop slave labor products from primarily British colonies destroying the American economy and American jobs.

Y I don't waste time with attention-seekers. Learn how to read a post and then learn how to paraphrase its contents accurately.I know what I advocate for and what I don't advocate for.

What a senseless joke. I mean come on now , are there any facts in what you say. For many decades now China has had the fastest increase in the standard of living of any country in the world. Is it slowing down, it's on a tare so it probably will, but 6.7% for 2018 in China is outrageous for any country. That puts them on a rate where in 2028 they will be making $21,000.00 a year on average.

Do you offer anything that is the truth, good God go ahead and show us how much the right wing hate party has done for unions over the years compared to what Democrats have done for unions. The problem with forums are the weak minded comments that are worthless and have no value or truth in them.

How deep is the ocean? How high is the sky?

The deepest part of the ocean is the Challenger Deep at 36,070 feet. The Exosphere extends to 6200 miles, but the Kármán line (which is used to mark the boundary into outer space) is at 62 miles.
