Sanders: Why I Oppose NAFTA

Sanders opposed it. He claimed it would hurt American jobs. Biden voted for it.

This is a real vulnerability for Biden. Trump can use this against Biden in Pennsylvania and the rust belt. Sanders is probably the strongest candidate.

Nafta House Vote:

Republicans: 132 - 43
Democrats: 102 - 156

Senate

Republicans: 34 - 10
Democrats: 27 - 28

So, generally, Democrats were against NAFTA. It was pushed for by Republicans and Clinton signed it. The North (Rust Belt) never forgets. They remembered in 2016.

NAFTA wasn't actually a bad thing but there should have been more provisions for the consequences to workers in the Rust Belt. But that's contrary to Republican thinking.

Now the same people who were screwed over the Republican free trade, Republicans against entitlements and wealth redistribution, Republican war on unions are voted for Trump, a Republican. It's crazy.

They need to be reminded who screwed them over and who has been destroying the working class for decades.

And also from your citation's poll:

Despite the desire to elect Trump's replacement in 2020, a majority of voters, 56 percent, say Trump should not be impeached and compelled to leave office, while 39 percent support impeachment and removal.
“A majority want someone else in the Oval Office, but are willing to wait until the next election,” said Monmouth University pollster Patrick Murray.

Which is the correct way to view any political dispute over who should lead. A person is elected, let them do their job. Then if you don't like it? Kick them out come NEXT election.

Sore losers don't think that way.

That is evident in every attempt as far back as Fall 2016 to prevent the President-Elect from taking office after the election results. Followed by screaming at the sky and protest marches with partisans openly demanding his removal by any means necessary and declaring they would "blow up the White House" to assassinate him. Now to seeking impeachment after a failed investigation based on a hoax. Get rid of him by any means necessary simply because they don't like the election results.

So where were Sanders and the rest of the Dems in the decades since NAFTA was enacted? By your logic, it's understandable that the Reps didn't ever want to fix it, but shouldn't the Dems have done it?

Why did it take one man...who neither the Dems nor the GOP Elites like...to finally ****can the thing?

i voted for Perot.

Trump is not a product of the Republican Party.

He has consistently held about the same position on NAFTA as a job killing, elitist tool to wreck the American economy.

The constituency of the Republican Party is the constituency that supports Trump and stays home when Trump is not on the ballot.

The Republican Party hates the people that it claims to support and fight for.

The "little guy" is the guy that the the major political parties have screwed for decades and that they lie to on a daily basis.

Trump is the only guy in Washington DC fighting for the "little guy" regardless of any of that individual's identifying demographics.

If you're a guy that needs to go to work everyday to survive, the ONLY politician on the national scene that is fighting for you is Trump.

Which gave us Clinton(LOL)

I don't control how other people vote. If I did, the idiot king would not be leading his cult from the WH.

By your reckoning Nixon should have been allowed to stay. I disagree. If someone breaks the law/violates their oath of office they should be removed. Keeping anyone in office knowing that they are corrupt is antithetical to our core values. If I voted for someone who is later found to be a criminal I’d be the first one to yell “throw the bum out”.

Who tried to prevent Trump from taking office?

I'm not sure why you don't see that the billionaire fighting for the little guy act is a con. Why would he open a fake university that conned little guys out of the little money they had? Why would he run a fake charity? Trump is a crook.

If you want to support someone who has genuinely fought for the little guy his entire life then support Bernie Sanders.

Your post has nothing to do with this thread.

My point in this thread is that Republicans were the ones who supported NAFTA. If it were just Democrats voting it doesn't get passed. Big free trade deals were always a Republican and libertarian view.

And I'll be fair. I think free trade is good. But it needs to be balanced with some kind of government wealth redistribution so that the benefits get redistributed to those who are harmed by free trade.

The problem with Republicans is they are against government wealth redistribution. So they want the benefits of free trade but they don't want to do anything about the harm because it violates their absurd ideology.

You are right. I must have had an Alzhiemer's moment. :3oops:

That response was for a different thread I was trying to respond to before going to work that timed out. I had to relog in and then quickly searched for what I thought was my "last contact;" then just pasted it as a reply, signed off and went to work.

Sorry. :)

np, very polite of you.

lmfao "Republicans are bad, but Trump is fantastic" is definitely the new most ridiculous thing i've seen on this site

even more ridiculous when you consider that the same people who voted for Trump are the same people who voted for the current worthless Republicans in congress. And the notion that they stay home when Trump is not on the ballot is false. They came out strong for Republicans in 2018, as instructed to them by their president. They just lost because they were outnumbered...

Don't you just hate it when a poster edits a post for no other reason than to change the meaning and then presents is as if it has not been edited?

Bernie Sanders is working for the little guy? Only if the "Little Guy" you are talking about is named Bernie Sanders.

Not just Republicans. Democrats, too.

Not at all surprisingly, every establishment drone in either and both political parties hates Trump.

The people that like Trump are simply enjoying the most jobs ever in the USA, rising wage rates, increased take home pay, lowered tax rates, increased household income and greater opportunity and personal optimism.

You know: Graduates, investors, manufacturing workers, entrepreneurs, retailers, and anyone else who works for a living.
