Never in my life would I have expected that in a land as diverse as the USA a monolithic minority of crazy racists, xenophobes, homophobes, Nazi sympathizing supremacists, KKK'ers, Jesus Freaks, and unhinged nationalists--surely no more than 30% of the country--would grab power virtually unopposed.

Un-****ing-believable.

So, one has to ask. Can they be stopped? Will they be? Or, are we destined to be overrun by the worst of the ignorant masses?

They are winning initially but demographics will eventually choke them out thankfully. I think that's why we're seeing this desperate last criminal power grab to try and create a permanent apartheid state. Once Democrats take back power and Republicans just can't win elections all we have to do is remove the corporatists from the Dems and we'll have our country back.

That's a sad statement on the quality of our citizens and the functioning of democracy, if all our systems of education and media and other things can't help the cultists, only demographics can limit their numbers. But you watch Fox rise to #1, and realize, it's the case. Yes, money funding propaganda works too well.

Yep, unfortunately the wealthy are so powerful they only need ~33% of the population on their side to dominate politics. If the laws were fair this wouldn't be possible but since they control the laws we can't fix it, yet.

Absolutely you are "Un-****ing-believable" in the amount of inane debasing terms you can use against people you do not agree with.

Your 30% figure just goes to show how ineffectual Democrats are if a "monolithic minority of crazy racists, xenophobes, homophobes, Nazi sympathizing supremacists, KKK'ers, Jesus Freaks, and unhinged nationalists" can beat you. In the last election the states that voted Republican had a population of 184 million versus those that voted Democrat at 141 million. It may be a minority registered but it's a majority that actually voted. I think you need to work on a larger list of debasing terms that you can use in 2020 when you lose again.

Tyrants succeed when good people do nothing. Trump won because Democrats stayed home. That won't happen again, at least any time soon.

It isn't a crazy minority though considering he lost the popular vote a little under 3 million votes. In my opinion, this isn't about a minority rule but the poor choices voters had in 2016. I suspect if the GOP had another candidate who could have channeled the frustrations felt by their constituents, it would have been a different primary. The GOP constituents didn't want another stuffed suit representing the status quo, and neither did many Independents and Democratic voters. The DNC didn't field a candidate who channeled the same frustrations on their side, and by not doing so lost those in the middle who didn't want more of the same. If they don't get it right during the road to the primaries for 2020 then expect more of the same.

Younger generations are far more liberal and open minded. I don't think I've ever found xenophobia data between the different generations but I would assume they would be less inclined. With the white population percentage declining it will also make white racism less powerful. I think the only real hope for the oligarchy is to hold the Democratic party as a corporatist entity while pretending to be something else (which they are doing now).

It depends on what you are referencing.

The majority of the younger generations are far more liberally socially on issues like lgtq issues however the majority of the younger generation are moderate to conservative on economic issues.

For example. When you ask people about global warming, it is a fringe minority that wants to tax people at 70% or more. It is definitely anti-capitalism to want to punish people for succeeding in life.

The majority of the younger generations do not want to be charged an additional capital gains tax or be charged a wealth tax.

As more and more minorities become more wealthy, they don't want their wealth to be taken away from the government.

Unfortunately if you are correct and the democrats take a permanent control of the country their policy decisions, higher taxes, open borders, medicare for all, and Green New Deal will cause the country to be driven it into bankruptcy. They propose these policies but don't explain how to pay for them beyond taxing the rich.

The minority seized power because they rallied around their candidate with blind loyalty while the majority was divided and unenthusiastic about theirs. I look for the shoe to be on the other foot in 2020.

The whole FOX #1 thing is overdone. Most people to today get their news from their phones. Old geezers and Trumpists watch FOX religiously. So FOX is #1 with old geezers and crazy Trumpists.
