Trump administration denies special help to Venezuelans seeking asylum

Trump administration denies special help to Venezuelans seeking asylum
Despite clarion calls for Venezuelan ‘freedom’ the US has resisted offering Temporary Protected Status to those fearing persecution

As Venezuela slumps further into crisis, White House officials from Donald Trump down have made repeated expressions of support for the country’s people.

But such comments stand in stark contrast to the meager help the US government is giving Venezuelans seeking refuge in the US.

Trump is a xenophobic hypocrite.

Trump is a xenophobic hypocrite.

Well, IMO these people have several options.

1. They can cross the border into Columbia, or Guyana right? Are those two nations signatory members of whatever UN rules apply?

2. They can apply to any European Union countries too right? Isn't the EU open to all comers?

3. They can rise up and FIGHT! Their government is oppressive and has turned into another banana republic military dictatorship.

I'm being facetious of course, but what exactly do you want Trump to do aside from reveling in another anti-Trump complaint thread?

Trump is a xenophobic hypocrite.

It is not xenophobic to want to bring in a certain group of people into your home.

Maybe Mexico should take them in.

Waiting for the OPer to advise of how many foreign national refugees he had living with him - or is he a "xenophobic hypocrite" (his analysis and word choice)?

It's no secret that Trump talks out of both sides of his mouth, oftentimes simultaneously.

It's also no secret that Trump doesn't give a rats ass about people of color.

It won't be Venezuelans - but 90% uneducated and impoverished young males. Most illegal migrants abandon their children, wives and other family members to come to the USA - men who are exactly who we do NOT want.

I take it then the following countries don't give a rats ass about people of color either:

Countries bordering Venezuela: Brazil, Guyana, Columbia

Countries between US of A and Venezuela: Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico

8 countries that are closer to Venezuela than the US of A. None of them want to grant asylum to the brown people of Venezuela?!?

I've heard some people claim that Trump wants to turn the US into a banana republic but I didn't believe them until you argued our country should emulate the policies of a bunch of banana republics

... because we are already giving "help" to hundreds of thousands of "immigrants" at our Southern border of which more than 90% claim their lives are in danger.

I'm sure Venezuelans are free to join the crowds at our border; but if they think they deserve a special status, they are mistaken. Nearly everybody at the border claims their lives are in danger.

Trump's "special help" was offering food/goods and medical personnel to the people of Venezuela ... and that offer still stands.

So, no special help for Venezuelan refugees then. Even though Trump has a US military option on the table. Thanks for being honest.

So....

You want us to go in, guns blazing, killing Venezuelan citizens left and right?

yes, because a nation's capacity for assisting refugees is so identical to one's family residence

It is not xenophobic to want to bring in a certain group of people into your home.

But he is doing exactly that. He is NOT wanting to do this.

There is no military option with the Cubans & Russians there. You want to start WWIII?

This is definitely Obama's fault. He was going to Cuba dancing and meeting with a despot in Castro instead of punishing them for helping turn Venezuela into a hotbed of violence and terrorism.

A little late to be assigning blame. The important thing is to resolve the current situation.

So, ... how did we get from special help for Venezuelan refugees to military option?!?

That sounds exactly like what Rogue is wanting.

First he whines about the lack of special attention for asylum-seeking Venezuelans, and then he wants us to kill them instead.

You meant to say "banana republics full of Latinos who are racists against Latinos," right?
